Dundee made only one change to the starting eleven. Scott Tiffoney came in at left wing back for the injured Fin Robertson.
Dundee started really well and scored in just three minutes, the Saints keeper made a mess of a cross ball, the ball fell nicely to Simon Murray who scored with a fine shot into the corner of the net.
After a VAR check the goal was given to the dee-light of the Dundee fans. Minutes later and it was 2-0 when after a cross from Scott Tiffoney who chipped back into the danger area. The home defence still couldn’t clear and Clark Robertson’s low shot took a deflection giving Seb Palmer-Houlden a tap in at the far post. 2-0 in the 10th minute.
Again a VAR check for hand ball the goal was given and it put Dundee in a great place. Saints had a couple of chances but nothing to worry about.
Dundee then broke up a Saints move and great pace and play from Mulligan. His low cross was missed by Adewumi but not Lyall Cameron, who took a touch to make space and smashed his shot into the corner from 12 yards. The Dark Blue support behind that goal were loving this top class entertainment from the Dee.
Dundee had a few more chances before half-time, Palmer-Houlden had a good effort saved by the Saints keeper.
Second half and St Johnstone started very well and were knocking the ball about well, Dundee were just defending well and attacking with quick breaks. Adewumi was unlucky after a great run with skill and pace his shot was well saved to deny a goal.
Saints pulled a goal back when McPake scored with a fine finish, Dundee replaced Simon Murray with Ethan Ingram and Mulligan was able to move into midfield.
It helped Dundee to tighten up and they looked much better. Later on Cesar Garza came on for his debut, replacing the hugely impressive Adewumi, after 75 minutes.
A great three points for Dundee and although the second half was not great, it was a great three points and makes the gap bigger on St Johnstone.
