Dundee made three changes when Ethan Ingram, Aaron Donnelly and Cesar Garza replaced Luke Graham and Seb Palmer-Houlden, who were on the bench, and Lyall Cameron, who was ill. Donnelly was making his second Dee debut after signing yesterday, following last season’s loan spell from Nottingham Forest, and Garza made his first start.
Rangers had the first attack but failed to trouble the Dundee goal, it took six minutes for Dundee to attack, but when they did it was a openining goal. Great play involving Seun Adewumi and that allowed Ethan Ingram to cross. Scott Tiffoney’s shot was blocked with the ball breaking wide for Josh Mulligan to screw a cross back from the byline. Sean Adewumi to score with a fine finish.
Then minutes later Donnelly had a header blocked and hid follow up shot was blocked by a shaky Rangers defence. Dundee were playing some neat football.
Then Dundee claimed a penalty when Murray was fouled in the box, Rangers went up the park and scored. After a VAR check the penalty was not given and it was 1-1.
The same kind of foul gave a penalty to Rangers last season, Dundee kept playing football and were unlucky a few times before half-time.
Second half and Rangers had more of the ball but Carson only had to make two good saves, Dundee were unlucky not to get a second goal when Adewumi scored again but Murray was ruled offside. It was very close.
Seb Palmer-Holden and Julien Vetro came on for Simon Murray and Scott Tiffoney to give Rangers fresh problems with their fresh legs and energy.
After an impressive debut Cesar Garza went down with what looked like cramp and was replaced by Sammy Braybrooke for the last 15 minutes.
Rangers hit the bar late on and Dundee had a couple of chances but could not hit the target.
Dundee deserved the point tonight and could have got all three with a bit of luck. Next up is Celtic at Dens next Tuesday night.
