Dundee 1, Aberdeen 2, Dens Park, Betfred Cup, 18-August-19

Dundee went out of the Betfred Cup with a 2-1 defeat after extra time against Premier side Aberdeen. Dundee made two changes to the team Shaun Byrne and Josh Todd came in for Paul McGowan and the injured Kane Hemmings.

Dundee started very well and they took the game to the Dons , Josh Todd went close with a header, after a great move Finlay Robertson set up Danny Johnson who spun and his shot smacked off the post to the relieve of the visitors.

Dundee were not giving the dons any time on the ball and it paid off with 2 minutes before half-time, Jamie Ness's cross was heading for Jordan Forster who was fouled to give the home side a penalty. Danny Johnson made no mistake from the spot to give the Dee a well deserved lead.

Second Half and Aberdeen did have a chance but it never troubled Jack Hamilton, soon after Shaun Byrne went close after great play again from Fin Robertson. Declan McDaid also went close with a 22 yard drive.

Andrew Nelson came on for Danny Johnson who had put so much effort in as the loan striker. Logan was lucky to stay on the pitch with two bad tackled on Dundee players. Dundee made more changes as Dundee looked to hang on for a 1-0 win.

But deep in injury time the dons levelled when Considine bundle the ball over the line after Hamilton had made a tremendous save at his far post. It was a hard one to take so late on.

As normal Aberdeen grabbed a winner in extra time Cosgrove heading home in the first half of extra time. Dundee kept at it but could not find the goal to force Penalty kicks.

Dundee more than matched the Dons over the 90 minutes and Aberdeen will be glad they got through. For Dundee the future looks great if they can perform like this in the league.
