The Dark Blues made three changes to the team that played Hearts. Mo Sylla, Lyall Cameron and Scott Tiffoney returned to the starting eleven, replacing Ryan Astley, Cesar Garza and Fin Robertson, who were all on the bench.
Dundee started well and really looked up for the game, Thay attacked the United defence and were unlucky not to score a few time.
Then on 11 minutes Simon Murray sent Mulligan clear into the penalty area. Jack Walton saved well but Lyall Cameron popped the loose ball into the net. The players were lined up for the restart when the VAR check came through to disallow the goal. Seun Adewumi had been marginally offside in the build up.
It was a blow but Dundee kept up the pace and soon after went ahead when great play from Murray sent Ziyad Larkeche to the byline. He put in a great cross which somehow Jordon McGhee twisted his body to score with a superb header.
Soon after Cameron had a shot saved and then Murray put one just wide of the post. Dundee kept attacking United relentlessly, always finding space in the final third. In the 23rd minunte Scott Tiffoney took a pass from Larkeche, ran into space and blasted a rocket shot straight at Walton, the keeper allowed the ball to slip through his grasp into the net.
But United pulled a goal back when Dundee failed to clear, and Middleton scored with a neat finish.
Dundee never let that unsettle them and on 39 minutes it was 3-1 with a superb goal, great play and pass from Adewumi set up Jordon McGhee to curl a wonderful shot into the net.
Dundee scored again and it was ruled by Var that Murray was offside in the build up. It could have been 5-1 at half-time.
Second half and both teams started well and it was United who scored after 49 minutes when Trapanovski shot home which came off a defender to wrong foot Carson to make it 3-2.
Dundee had to dig in a bit, as United had a wee spel[. Dundee hit on the break and always looked dangerous.
Dundee twice went agonisingly close to tying up the match with two efforts by central defenders. At a corner Donnelly’s header was cleared off the line by Ferry. When United couldn’t clear a long throw Donnelly hooked a high ball into the goalmouth. Joe Shaughnessy headed down and the ball bounced, looping and dropping inches over the crossbar with Walton beaten and looking on in despair.
United made subs to try and get another goal but Carson saved anything with ease. But in extra time Dundee scored again when Simon Murray done great to hold the ball up. went down got back up and robbed the Und defender to get clear to then be pushed in the back.
A clear penalty and up stepped Simon Murray to sent Walton the wrong way to make it 4-2 and he ran all the way down to the other end of the pitch to celebrate.
That sealed the game for sure and soon after the final whistle went. The Dundee fans celebrated in total joy, it was Dundee's first win at Tannadice for 21 years. My son Andrew was so happy it was a joy to see.
Every Dundee player deserved great credit today, it was a massive 3pts for the club.
