Dundee made one change when Fin Robertson replaced Lyall Cameron. Billy Koumetio returned for a place on the bench after being injured for two months.
Dundee forced a corner straigtht away in the first minutes, Fin Robertson took the corner and his ball in ans Simon Murray who scored with a fine vo;;ey. What a start for the dark blues.
Dundee keep up the pressure and they played some great football. Then Dessers had a chance when the ball broke to him on the edge of the penalty area, but Trevor Carson saved with his feet.
But in 19 minutes it was 2-0 Rangers failed to clear and it led to Larkeche who played it back into the danger area. Joe Shaughnessy’s header was fumbled by Jack Butland. Murray’s follow up was blocked, but finally Joe Shaughnessy forced the ball over the line. After a painfully long delay the goal was confirmed.
Soon after Dundee were unlucky when Robertson fired the ball into the net but the Referee pulled it back for a free kick to Rangers. It looked very soft,
Carson then made a good diving save and from the corner Murray cleared one off the line. But in 41 minutes Rangers got a goal back when a cross was knocked into his own goal fron Shaughnessy. On another day it could have went any where.
Rangers made changes to their team for the second half, but it was Dundee that came close, a great cross from Mulligan found Tiffoney and some how he put it wide of the post six yards out.
A minute later Rangers scored but it was ruled out for offside by VAR.
Then Adewumi went close twice within a minute on the hour mark. He flashed a shot a fraction of an inch wide of the post from a Murray cutback. He then chased after a long pass and lobbed Butland but the ball drifted over the bar before he got clattered by the keeper.
Then a minute later it was 3-1 Dundee when good play in the midfield and Scott Tiffoney picked up the ball 40 yards out he ran forward and got clear and smashed the ball home for a superb goal.
Cesar Garza came on for Fin Robertson as the Dee tried to manage the game and contain Rangers. The game was too frantic for that, and further goals always looked likely, from both teams.
And so it proved as Rangers scored twice from long range from Tavernier and Lawarence, that was in 78 and 81 minutes. Dundee kept at it and came close a few times.
Then Dundee came agonisingly close to a winner a minute into added time. A lovely spin and pass by Mulligan sent Murray away and he smashed a shot off the inside of the post with the ball cannoning clear. That was Murray’s final contribution and he was replaced by Charlie Reilly for the last few minutes.
But in deep injury time Aaron Donnelly couldn’t get enough on a header as he tried to intercept a long ball. Dessers nipped in behind him and slipped a low shot past Carson to give Rangers all three points.
Dundee pushed forward for the last 2 minutes but failed to score. It was a tough result to take as they gave 100% all over the park. Trevor Carson made some great saves during the game.
