Dundee made three changes when Drey Wright, Imari Samuels and Bradley Fink replaced Bradley Halliday, Odutayo and Bobby Wales. Dundee started the game brightly and were hitting Hearts on the break.
They lost Joe Westley after 6 minutes who was injured in a head clash. Bobby Wales came on, and soon after Dundee took the lead. A great long ball from Imari Samuels caught out the Hearts defence and Bradley Fink raced clear to score with a superb finish.
Hearts kept pushing, having several chances that were well-marshalled by the centre-back partnership of Ryan Astley and Owen Bevan. A dangerous cross by former Dee Josh McPake was clinically intercepted by Astley, denying Portuguese striker Cláudio Braga what would have been a likely tap-in past Owen Goodman.
Dundee were lucky to end the half with eleven men on the pitch after summer signing Ryan Finnigan’s two-footed challenge was kept to a yellow card. It was to be Finnigan’s final moment of the game, being substituted at half-time following an ankle problem.
Jack Moorhouse came on for his debut and looked good, he was unlucky with a run and shot which just missed the target. Hearts had a lot of chances but found Owen Goodman in fine form.
Another injury for the Dens Park side when Finlay Robertson went down, it looked a soar one. Zan Bešir came on for Finlay.
With minutes to go in normal time a sliding tackle from Owen Bevan and the ball hit his hand to deny a cross. Penalty to Hearts. They scored to make it 1-1.
In injury time Žan Bešir was sent sent off for a silly tackle which he was shown a yellow card. After a Var check it was a Red card for the midfielder.
On 97 minutes Hearts scored the winner with a shot from outside the box. It was tough on Dundee today as the defence has done well.
