Dundee 3, Queens Park 0, Dens Park, cinch Championship, 25th January 2023

Dundee Manager Gary Bowyer made six changes to the team that beat Dunfermline on Tuesday night. Adam Legzdins, Cammy Kerr, Jordan McGhee and Luke McCowan all returned to the starting line-up. Sam Fisher came in for his first league start of the season after returning from a loan spell at Dunfermline, and Barry Maguire made his debut in midfield.

Dundee got off to great start and were awarded a penalty when McMullan was fouled in the box, up stepped Paul McMullan but his shot was too near the keeper and it was a easy save for Ferrie.

Barry Maguire volleyed narrowly wide from McMullan’s low corner. Luke McCowan was close with a shot from 20 yards. Another Maguire shot was blocked with the ball bobbling around in the six yard box, but the Dark Blues couldn’t take advantage.

Then Jordan McGhee forced a good save from the keeper as Dundee looked for the opening goal.

Second half and Queens Park had a wee spell but never troubled the Dundee defence, after 62 minutes Dundee made changes to the team Lyall Cameron and Luke McCowan were replaced by Ben Williamson and Alex Jakubiak after 62 minutes.

Inside five minutes Dundee took the lead good place by Jakubiak and the ball fell nice for Ben Williamson who smashed the ball for a fine goal.

Goal number two arrived five minutes later fine play by Fisher and Maguire stopped a Queen’s Park attempted break down their left. The turnover created space for McMullan to race away and fire over a low cross for Alex Jakuibaik to slide in and score at the far post.

Dundee put on Cillian Sheridan and Ryan Clampin  for Kwame Thomas and Sam Fisher, both had done well.

Dundee were in total control and it was a joy to watch, the third goal came soon after a fine run from  Ryan Clampin who sprinted round the outside of a startled Spiders’ defence, ran along the byline, and set up Ryan Sweeney to prod the ball home from close range.

Dundee could have scored 5 or 6 today a fine performance from everybody and we now close the gap at the top of the league.

Next up is Hamilton Accies away next Saturday.
