Dundee 0, Ross County 0, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 24th October 2023

Dundee's first game for three long weeks, after the Aberdeen game was cancelled due to the weather. They made two changes when Jordan McGhee came in for Cammy Kerr, who was on the bench, and Fin Robertson replaced the injured Lyall Cameron.

Dundee started well but failed to test the Ross County keeper for most of the first half they had plenty of efforts but nothing came to fruit.

Ross County on the other hand made Trevor Carson work a few bit harder and he had to made two good saves one which was a great reflex one. 

The best moment in the first half came following a corner that was cleared as far as Malachi Boateng. The midfielder hit a fine crossfield pass, giving Fin Robertson space to send in a cross that ricocheted through the goalmouth without anyone getting a decisive touch.

Second half was not much better again Dundee had efforts on goal but they lacked power to trouble Ross Laidlow in the County goal.

Dundee got a break when County scored from a cross which Carson fumbled, allowing  Brown to bundle the ball over the line. The assistant referee’s flag was up and we all had to wait while the VAR team reviewed the decision. 

The goal was ruled out for offside, a correct decision but it was close. Soon after Dundee were unlucky when Laidlaw turned Amadou Bakayoko’s shot into the side netting.

Diego Pineda replaced Zak Rudden and gave a very lively contribution. He made some good runs which invited passes from midfield. Twice he took passes from Boateng and forced saves from Laidlaw. He also dragged a shot across goal from a tight angle. 

Charlie Reilly came off the bench towards the end of normal time and in the last added minute his low shot was saved by Laidlaw with the rebound evading Pineda.

So a draw seemed fair at the end of the game which l missed due to work. I was off on the Saturday it was cancelled but could not get a holiday to go tonight.

Stirling Albion 2, Dundee 2, Ross McGeachie Testimonial Match, Forthbank Stadium, 10th October 2023

Dundee put out a mixed team of first team and fringe players for this Testimonial game for Ross McGeachie. Dundee started brightly and nearly scored in the first two minutes with Rudden going close. 

Dundee’s early pressure paid off when  Luke McCowan opened the scoring. A well worked move started with Pineda who drove forward, Rudden then picked up the ball and played it wide to Robertson who delivered a low cross into the box which was met by McCowan who slotted the ball into the net.

Stirling Albion levelled the game a few minutes later when Josh Cooper scored when he never gave up on a long ball and he managed to squeeze the ball home.

Pineda then had two chances in quick succession firstly heading over from a cross from McCowan and then was just unable to get a clean shot on goal after a cross from Rudden.

Stirling took the lead after Dundee failed to clear a free kick and Ross  McGeachie scored with a low shot into the net. Soon after Rudden hit the post with a header from a McCowan cross.

Dundee made five changes for the second half with Portales, Lochhead, Wilkie, Allan, and Mohammed all coming on, replacing Kerr, Lamie, McCowan, Boateng and Rudden.

They started well and levelled the game when Lewis drove forward and played in and Jack Wilkie who side-footed the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

A lot of good football was played by both teams, but they failed to score any of the chances which got to the final stage. 

Dundee made more changes when Mo Sylla and Diego Pineda were replaced by Luke Graham and Euan Mutale. 

Sebastian Lochhead came off in the 70th minute due to injury and was replaced by Marley Sweenie-Rowe. Just after this substitute Stirling nearly went in front again when Keiran Moore had a shot outside of the box but it went just over the bar.

That's how the game ended and well done to Ross McGeachie service to his club Stirling Albion over the years.

Hibernian 0, Dundee 0, Easter Road, cinch Premiership, 30th September 2023

Dundee made several changes to their team with Jordan McGhee and Scott Tiffoney were injured, Josh Mulligan was suspended, and Zach Robinson was on the bench. Antonio Portales, Cammy Kerr, Lyall Cameron and Zak Rudden came into the starting eleven.

Dundee started well and played some neat one touch football and Zak Rudden had a good header saved by Marshall. Hibs finally came into the game and Trevor Carson had to be quick to make several saves/ 

Dundee were quick on the break with great runs from Owen Beck the main threat to the Hibernian defence with Dundee had a few efforts on goal before half time.

Second half and it looked like Hibs stepped up a gear but again Trevor Carson saved well and the defence all stuck to their tasks and defended well/ 

Dundee still hit on the break and were unlucky a few times when the ball would not fall. Hibs really went the winner in the last tens minutes but missed a few headers which they put over the bar. Then in a great brakaway Luke McCowan out paced Boyle and once clear he passed inside to substitute Ryan Howley who teed up Beck to hit a ferocious shot from 12 yards that was superbly saved by David Marshall.

A great chance gone but so  unlucky Dundee saw out the last three minutes of injury time to gain a vital point on the road.

Dundee 2, Kilmarnock 2, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 23rd September 2023

Dundee made three changes to the team with Jordan McGhee, Josh Mulligan and Scott Tiffoney came in for Cammy Kerr, Fin Robertson and Ryan Howley.

Kilmarnock started the better but Dundee looked quick on the break and began to come into the game after the first tenminutes.

On their second corner on 16 minutes they took the lead Owen Beck sent over a cross to the near post. Joe Shaughnessy headed on leaving Amadou Bakayoko with a simple close range finish at the far post.

Dundee looked much better and the second goal looked more likely with Beck twice unlucky with great play and efforts on goal. 

It was a good game with both sides having good efforts on goal. Then Kilmarnock levelled the game after Var got involved with a penalty award after the ball hit Bakayoko on the arm. Armstrong scored from the spot.

More chances came for both sides as the game went end to end. The Dark Blues responded well but the match turned dramatically on a controversial refereeing decision after 34 minutes. Josh Mulligan attacked down the left but lost the ball on the edge of the penalty area. No foul was given and Mulligan stopped Killie breaking by bringing Armstrong down on the touchline. Mr Munro surprised almost every in the stadium by pulling out his red card. The message obviously came through from VAR central that he should review the decision. The referee took a good look and stood by the red card.

Robbie Deas got away with a two footed tackle studs first with just a yellow when it could have been a red if Josh's tackle was deemed to be one.

Second half and Fin Robertson came on for Scott Tiffoney at half time. That was harsh on Tiffoney who had a fine game until the red card disrupted the Dee. The change gave the Dark Blues a better balance and offered the defence more protection. 

Killie were much on top with Dundee having to defend well and they still had a go when they could. Bakayoko had a good header saved but was ruled offside.

Killie had a good 10 minute spell and the got their second goal when Armstrong scored at the back post. It looked like the winning goal. But Dundee kept at it and Zak Rudeen turned well but not enough contact to trouble the keeper. 

In injury time Trevor carson came up for a corner it did the trick when the ball was headed back into the goalmouth by Ricki lamie and Zak Rudden smashed the ball home to send Dens wild with delight.

It was a well deserved draw for Dundee who had fought well and came back from the the two var decisions went against us

Dundee made two changes to the team Cammy kerr coming in for Jordan McGhee and Ryan Howney replacing Scott Tiffoney. 

As expected Celtic attacked from the start but Dundee looked up for the game, early on Trevor Carson had a good save and then Riley hit the post.

Celtic then had a goal chalked off for offside, then the last 20 miniyes of the half they were in no real danger. Then Owen Beck pullled a low cross back from the byline. Luke McCowan’s close range shot was kept out by a reflex save by Joe Hart. Zach Robinson miskicked in front of goal and the chance was gone.

Second half Celtic started well playing with pace, then Celtic got a very soft penalty when Turnbull went down in the box. the referee gave a free kick at first Then changed to penalty after seeing it on Var. Turnbull recovered to score/ 

Luke McCowan went close with a curling shot after good link up play from Cammy Kerr and Fin Robertson. 

But soon after Celtic scored twice to finish the game. Dundee kept going to the end and they can take positived from their hardworking efforts.

St Johnstone 2, Dundee 2, McDiarmid Park, cinch Premiership, 02-September-23

Dundee made one change to the team Ricki Lamie replacing Cammy Kerr. Lamie played at centre half with Jordon McGhee switched to right back.

A nice sunny day in Perth as both teams attacked with Dundee looking good on the quick break aways were played some neat football. Scott Tiffoney had a cross cut out and, then Amadou Bakayoko had a  curled shot from 20 yars which went narrowly wide. 

Dundee finally took a deserved lead after 35 minutes. Beck took a short free kick 40 yards out and Fin Robertson floated a cross to the far post. Amadou Bakayoko headed down, Scott Tiffoney stuck a leg out and the ball reached the back of the net. The referee judged that Tiffoney got a touch on the ball and credited the goal to the winger.

Dundee started the second half well and looked even better with some great football, they got their second goal when Ricki Lamie headed home a corner from Owen Beck to the delight of the big dundee support in the stands. 

 Luke McCowan played Tiffoney in on goal but somehow Mitov got a touch on the shot to divert it narrowly past the post. Dundee then made changes to the team with Ryan Howley coming on for Fin Robertson and then Mo Sylla replaced Malachi Boateng. 

St Johnstone hit the bar soon after and Dundee also had chances to finish the game. But Saints scored on 83 minutes when Kucheriavyi headed home.

Zak Rudden replaced  Bakayoko in the final few minutes and straight away had a great chance but he put his shot wide when maybe a ball across the keeper would have been better.

With 5 minutes gone in injury time saints grabbed a point when Kucheriavyi scored again with the last kick of the ball. 

Dundee were superb today but had to settle for a point when really they should have been 3 or 4 up before saints pulled one back. I;m sure the team will learn from this and go on to be better when they are so much on top.

Dundee have signed young winger Marcel Lewis on a loan deal till January 2024, subject to International clearance. 

Marcel joins us on loan from English Premier League Side Burnley. The 21-year-old began his youth career with Cambridge United before moving to Chelsea in 2016. He represented Chelsea at Under 18’s and 23 level and was then signed by Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in May 2021. After a year in Belgium, Marcel returned to England with a loan spell at Accrington Stanley. On transfer deadline day 2022 of the summer transfer window Lewis made a permanent switch back to England signing for Burnley. He made his debut for the Clarets in November 2022 in the Carabao Cup against Crawley Town.

Marcel will wear No 32 this season.

Dundee has signed  midfielder Ryan Howley on a season-long loan deal from Coventry City.

19-year-old Ryan has spent his whole career at Coventry City after joining their youth set-up at the age of six. He made his professional debut for The Sky Blues in August 2021 in the English League Cup against Northampton and in that season he won the English Football League Championship Apprentice of the season. 

Max Anderson has joined Inverness Caley Thistle on loan for the rest of the season. It will do the youngster well if he gets more game time.

Dundee made three changes to the team that started the game at St Mirren. Cammy Kerr, Fin Robertson and Scott Tiffoney replaced Lee Ashcroft, Lyall Cameron and Josh Mulligan as the formation changed to 4-3-3. New signing Mo Sylla and Ricki Lamie were on the bench, and Charlie Reilly made his first appearance in a match squad.

In what was a slow start to the game with a lot of play in the midfield area, Hearts had a ;ot of the ball but lacked to trouble the dundee defence Fin Robertson had a shot saved by the Hearts keeper.

Sonn after Dundee put the ball into the net by Robinson after McGhee's shot hadf hit Zach. It was ruled out for offside by Var. Dundee had come into the game more and were looking good going forward and Scott Tiffoney had a shot which was just wide. 

Hearts made several changes to their team at the start of the second half. Dundee started well and looke good on the attack, the defence done really well and weathered the wee 10 minute spell Hearts had. 

Trevor Carson pulled off two good saves in that time as well. Dundee had a fast break away but the cross from Robinson came to nothing.

But Dundee took the lead on 63 minutes Hearts got into a mess and Dundee nipped in with Luke McCowan he could have passed to Scott Tiffoney but he chipped the ball home in superb fashion to put Dundee 1nil up. 

Shortly after the goal Lyall Cameron came on for Scott Tiffoney and was soon involved intelligently with play supporting Dundee’s attacks. Mo Sylla replaced Fin Robertson for the last 20 minutes and impressed the support with some energetic tackling and forceful runs.

Hearts stepped up a gear but Dundee were superb at the back and the whole team were working hard. On a good break away Robinson was denied a goal when Clarke tipped his header over the bar.

In injury time Dundee got the bodie in to deny Hearts as the game came to a close.

Three vital points today the whole team and subs played well and some great football played today.

Dundee News

Dundee have signed defender Ricki Lamie from Motherwell on a season long loan. He started his career at Airdrieonians, where he had loan spells with Clyde, Queen’s Park and East Stirlingshire, before moving permanently to Morton, then Livingston before joining Motherwell in 2020.

Dundee have signed midfielder Mo Sylla. from Hartlepool United for an undisclosed fee, signing a two-year deal with club. Mo started his career in France with the L’Entente SSG where he spent six years before moving to Oldham Athletic in 2019. He returned to France with Laval in 2020 before signing for Aldershot in October 2021 where he picked up the Aldershot supporters player of the season for 21/22. In August 2022 he joined Hartlepool United .

St Mirren 2, Dundee 1, SMiCA Stadium, cinch Premiership. 12th August 2023

Dundee made two changes to their team from last week Trevor Carson replaced Jon McCraken and Josh Mulligan kept his place after replacing injured Antonio Portales.

Dundee started slowly and lost a goal in sixminutes when a great cross was knocked into his own net by Joe Shaughnessy after the ball hit off Lee  Ashcroft’s head. 

St Mirren continuted to give Dundee's defence trouble with fast moving football and getting good crosses in. The midfield were struggling to get into the game and this led to Dundee strikers struggling to get any decent balls. 

St Mirren hit the bar and the defence managed to clear, but Dundee were giving a big bonus to get back into the game when the Referee went to check VAR and after Lee Ashcroft had his shirt puleed he gave Dundee a penalty.

Up stepped Zach Robinson to see his shot saved by the St Mirren keeper, it was a poor effort and was a easy save. St Mirren came forward again and Trevor Carson made a good save to tip the ball over the bar.

Worse was to follow as St Mirren when the home team doubled their lead a good corner was headed home by Mandron. That was right on half time and it will be hard for Dundee to come back in the second half.

Dundee changed back to a 4-4-2 system and looked a lot better, after 11 minutes Scott Tiffoney replaced Lyall Cameron and it paid off as Dundee attack to try and get a goal. 

It did came after 63 minutes Tiffoney swept over a lovely cross for Josh Mulligan to race in and somehow bundle the ball over the line with his back. There was a second VAR check for a possible handball before the goal was confirmed.

After this Dundee looked a different team and were unlucky a few time and McCowan seen efforts saved. 

Dundee pushed to the end but time ran out and the game ended in a 2-1 defeat. Hopefully they will learn from this and we need a Penalty taker as we have missed a few lately and it has cost the club.

Dundee started slowly and had a injury to Antonio Portales  who stayed down after attempting to go for the ball. He was replayed by Josh Mulligan with Jordan McGhee moving back into defence.

Not much happened in the first fiveteen minutes, but Dundee had a couple of efforts which was well blocked by the steelmen. Motherwell also attacked and Jon McCraken made a good save to deny Spittal/

Josh Mulligan had a great run close to half time but he put his shot over the ball . Minutes later Motherwell took the lead when a mistake in midfield and the ball was played quickly for Blair to score with ease.

Second half and Dundee came out well and attacked the Motherwell defence with pace and neat football. Dundee forced a couple of corners which came to nothing, the Luke McCowan had a good run and shot which beat the keeper but hit the post to deny Dundee a goal.

But on 68 minutes Dundee levelled the game when  Luke McCowan put in a fine cross to the back post and it was pinpoint as Lyall Cameron ran in to nod the equaliser much to the delight of the players, management and large home support, who celebrated Dundee’s first goal back in the top-flight.

Dundee piled forward to get the vital second goal and were unlucky in a few time.Cameron had a shot blocked and soon after he hit the post.

Motherwell had a few attacks in the final minutes as the game ended 1-1. A good display from the team and they were a wee bit unlucky to not get a opening day win.

News From Dens Park

Dundee has signed Trevor Carson on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee from St Mirren. A good add to the squad and he will help the young players at the club. Trevor has plenty Premier League experience  having played for Motherwell, Dundee Und and St Mirren. 

Dundee B beat Buckie Thistle 4-0 at Station Park in the SPFL Trust Trophy. Goals were scored by Rayan Mohammed, Jack Wilkie, Euan Mutale and Max Anderson. They will play East Fife in the second round.

Dundee 1, Inverness CT 0, Dens Park, League Cup Group E, 30-July-23

Dundee started with one change from the Dumbarton game when Jon McCracken replacing Adam Legzdins in goal. New loan signing Amadou Bakayoko was on the bench, along with Luke McCowan.

Dundee started well and Diego Pineda had two good efforts on goal, but after that Inverness CT had a couple of breaks and forced Jon McCracken to tip one over the ball. 

Dundee struggled for the rest of the half as they failed to create anything clear cut in the last third of the field. ICT were not much better as the half finished 0-0.

Second half and Dundee Manager Tony Docherty made changes at half time. Scott Tiffoney and Diego Pineda was substituted by Lyall Cameron and Amadou Bakayoko. The newcomers immediately injected more life and purpose into the Dee attacks.

 Bakayoko was unlucky with a 18 yard shot as Dundee looked more dangerous going forward. Then Luke McCowan came on for Josh Mulligan as Dundee stepped up their attacks.

It paid off on 60 minutes Boateng combined with Bakayoko on the left. Cameron fed the first cross back to Boateng who crossed for McCowan. His shot was blocked by Duffy but Zach Robinson was on hand to head for goal. Ridgers clawed the ball out, but it was already a yard over the line.

Inverness CT had a few attacks but nothing on target to trouble Dundee, who now was going for the vital second goal. McCowan had a effort on goal which was saved and the rebound never fell kind to the Dundee forwards. Then Beck had a shot but it was too straight to the keeper.

McCowan went down in the box but the Referee waved play as Dundee gave it their all in a bid to score. Time ran out and Dundee would fail to go onto the next  stage of the League Cup.

Hard way to go out they needed to score 1 more goal over the four games to go through.
