Dundee started slowly and had a injury to Antonio Portales who stayed down after attempting to go for the ball. He was replayed by Josh Mulligan with Jordan McGhee moving back into defence.
Not much happened in the first fiveteen minutes, but Dundee had a couple of efforts which was well blocked by the steelmen. Motherwell also attacked and Jon McCraken made a good save to deny Spittal/
Josh Mulligan had a great run close to half time but he put his shot over the ball . Minutes later Motherwell took the lead when a mistake in midfield and the ball was played quickly for Blair to score with ease.
Second half and Dundee came out well and attacked the Motherwell defence with pace and neat football. Dundee forced a couple of corners which came to nothing, the Luke McCowan had a good run and shot which beat the keeper but hit the post to deny Dundee a goal.
But on 68 minutes Dundee levelled the game when Luke McCowan put in a fine cross to the back post and it was pinpoint as Lyall Cameron ran in to nod the equaliser much to the delight of the players, management and large home support, who celebrated Dundee’s first goal back in the top-flight.
Dundee piled forward to get the vital second goal and were unlucky in a few time.Cameron had a shot blocked and soon after he hit the post.
Motherwell had a few attacks in the final minutes as the game ended 1-1. A good display from the team and they were a wee bit unlucky to not get a opening day win.
