Dundee 1, Kilmarnock 1, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 18th May 2024

Dundee made two changes to their team when  Aaron Donnelly and Josh Mulligan came in for Ryan Astley and Malachi Boateng who were on the bench.

The game started slowly and both teams stuggled in the first 20 minutes. From a poor corner Kilmarnock broke up the park and scored with a simple goal. Dundee continuted to struggle giving the ball away too much in midfield.

Dundee scored on 37 minutes when Scott Tiffoney took a long ball in his stride to race clear on the right. He sent a low pass across goal for Luke McCowan  to smash the equaliser past Will Dennis. The assistant’s flag went up for offside against Tiffoney but after a VAR review the goal was correctly allowed. Tiffoney timed his run perfectly and the video evidence showed he was onside.

It took two minutes to confirm the goal which why l'm not a big fan of VAR at the moment.

Killie looked the more dangerous team until half time.

Dara Costelloe replaced Josh Mulligan at half time. Dundee did have a brighter start than in the first half but soon it was Kilmarnock who were creating more danger. Murray shot from the angle of the penalty area. Jon McCracken would have dealt with the shot but Marley Watkins applied the slightest of touches with his head to divert the ball against the bar.

Killie hit the bar again and McGhee headed it clear for another corner to Kilmarnock.

At least Dundee stepped up their game and were the better side in the last 30 minutes.  Curtis Main and Malachi Boateng came on for Amadou Bakayo and Mo Sylla.

Kilmarnock werereduced to ten men when Deas was sent off for a silly tackle. Dundee had a great chance to win the game after Costello was fouled in the box, up stepped Luke McCowan and put the ball well wide of the goal.

Dundee kept going to the end and had efforts which were not too far away.

In the end it was a typitcal end of season game and both clubs have had a great season. Both teams were able to salute their fans in a nice sunny day.
