Dundee made three changes to the team with Tyler French and Zach Robinson were not fit and Cillian Sheridan was on the bench. Josh Mulligan replaced French at right wing back. Zak Rudden came in for Robinson at centre forward, and Max Anderson replaced Paul McMullan in the hole behind the strikers with McMullan shifting forward to play alongside Rudden.
Airdrie nearly scored first but Ian Lawlor made a fine save, Dundee had a lot of the ball but failed with the final ball or effort on goal. But against the run of play Airdrie did score with a fine worked goal.
Zak Rudden was unlucky with a good shot which the Airdrie keeper tipped the ball over the bar, as half time was looming Paul McMullan scored a vital goal for the dark blues. He fininished well after picking the ball up in the box.
Second half and Dundee got a bonus when the Airdrie keeper made a mistake and Zak Rudden chipped the ball home for a well taken goal. After this Dundee had three great chances to seal the win, but they missed them and payed the penalty when Airdrie scored again.
Dundee tried to get the winner in the 90 minutes but failed , Airdrie had a player sent off and that could be a big bonus.
Ian Lawlor was replaced after he made a good save but hit the post and was injured Adam Legzdins came on for the rest of the game.
But Dundee took control in extra time and sealed the win with goals from Derick Osei Yaw (2) Fin Robertson and Luke McCowan all were well taken and sent the fans home happy with win.
