Dundee 4. Arbroath 2, Dens Park, cinch Championship, 12-August-22

Dundee made three changes to the Dark Blues’ starting eleven from the team that beat Raith. Paul McGowan and Luke McCowan kept their places after coming on as substitutes and loan signing Joe Grayson made his debut. Shaun Byrne and Max Anderson shifted to the bench where they were joined by Cillian Sheridan after almost 10 months out through injury.

Arbroath started well and let Dundee know this was going to be a tough game which was live on TV. They forced a few corners which they nearly scored when Hamilton hit the post. 

Dundee had chances as well at McCowan and Kerr had efforts blocked by the Arbroath defence, it was a fine opening spell in the game.

Dundee stepped up a gear after 20 minutes and had more chances but the effort from Mulligan went over the bar, minute later Josh miskicked the ball when he was surprized the ball fell to him inside the box.

The Arbroath keeper Gaston made a great save to deny Cammy Kerr as Dundee looked to score close to half time. 

Dundee finally broke through in thrilling fashion. Tyler French made a crucial interception in his own penalty to stop a dangerous attack. He took Arbroath by surprise by sprinting out of defence, exchanging passes with McMullan and tearing down the right wing. Zak Rudden’s backheel gave him the chance to shoot but Gaston saved. The ball broke to Paul McGowan who set up Luke McCowan to crash his shot high into the net.

Both teams had efforts in the early stages of the second half, but it was Arbroath that finally levelled when a long ball found McKenna who was fouled by Sharp in the Dundee goal it looked a bit soft but the referee gave the penalty. Nicky Low scored with a well taken penalty.

Dundee came back into the game and scored after Ryan Sweeney kept the ball in play after a corner was half cleared. McGowan crossed and Gaston couldn’t get a clean punch in the crowded goalmouth. Zak Rudden took advantage of the stramash, poking the ball into the corner of the net from close range.

Dundee had a few more chances but it was Arbroath scored again after a few corners they scored from close range when Colin Hamilton forced the ball home on the line.

It set up a imteresting last ten minutes Arbroath nearly scored again when Hilson put his effort just over the bar fom just outside the six yard box. It was the turning point in the game Dundee broke away and scored a well taken third goal,

Zach Robinson  had replaced Zak Rudden shortly before the second equaliser, and he rose high to meet Luke McCowan’s inviting cross and send his header from 8 yards into the top corner.

It forced Arbroath to come forward and good pressure play from Dundee led to a mistake and Josh Mulligan ran forward with pace he cut inside to smash a curling shot high into the net from 18 yards.

A superb goal for Dundee and it sealed a great win for the club, great effort from the players which helped the atmosphere which was special and great to be part of it on a night where the club and fans payed tribute to the legendary Pat Liney.

Dundee Sign Joe Grayson

Dundee have signed Joe Grayson on loan for the rest of the season from Barrow FC who play in Division Two in England. Joe can play in either midfield or defence which is good for the squad at Dundee.

He started off at Blackburn Rovers and knows manager Gary Bowyer where he made his debut at 19 after coming through the youth ranks at Ewood Park.

After loan spells with both Grimsby Town and Oxford United he left permanently to join Barrow in League Two last summer.

Joe will wear number 38 at Dens Park. 

Raith Rovers 0, Dundee 1, Starks Park, cinch Premiership, 6-August-22

Dundee made two changes to the team last week, Paul McMullan and Zak Rudden retained their places with Ben Williamson injured and Niall McGinn on the bench. Fin Robertson and Ian Lawlor were also injured.  

Dundee started well and played some good football. In 13 minutes they took the lead with a well worked goal. After intercepting a clearance Jordan Marshall exchanged passes with Zak Rudden and raced into space down the left. His low cross was steered on the volley across goal and inside the far post by Josh Mulligan. 

Rovers hit back and it took a superb save from Harry Sharp to deny Sam Stanton, just before half time Dundee lost Jakubiak and Luke McCowan replaced him. The substitute sent over a promising cross following a short free kick but Ryan Sweeney headed over.

Second half and twice Raith had penalty appeals turned by the referee, on the hour Shaun Byrne had to go off injured he was replaced by Paul McGowan. Minutes later Dundee came close Mulligan cut inside and his shot was well saved by the keeper, the ball fell to Zak Rudden who hit the post. 

More changes for Dundee with Robinson and Ashcroft replacing Rudden and Anderson, both teams had chances towards the end.

Dundee 2, Partick Thistle 3, Dens Park, cinch Championship, 30-July-22

Dundee made one change to the starting line up who faced Forfar Athletic last week. Ben Williamson replaced Paul McGowan. On the bench there was places for Lee Ashcroft and new signing Zach Robinson. 

Dundee started well and had a lot of the ball but failed to create anything clear cut. Niall McGinn had a shot that hit the side netting. 

Partick looked dangerous on the break. They opened the scoring on 16 minutes Dundee gave the ball away in midfield and Thistle played a quick one two for Fitzspartick to score from 20 yards. Dundee attacked next and Mulligan had a shot well saved by the Jags keeper. 

But it was 2-0 soon after when mistakes in the Dundee defence led for Brannigan to score. the ball should have been cleared first time. 

Second half was only 5 minutes old when it was 3-0 slack defensive play let the unmarked Lawless to head home to the delight of the away fans.

But on 64 minutes Dundee scored from a corner when Cammy Kerr headed home. At least it give us some hope for the last 26 minutes. Josh Mulligan then had a great chance but put his shot over the bar it really should have been on target.

Ryan Sweeney hit the post with a header so unlucky not to score. Dundee battled away and scored again with 6 minutes left, Tyler French headed home from a McMullen corner. 

Dundee kept at it but failed to score again they did have a few half chances but the ball would not fall.

Partick deserved  the three points Dundee need to sort out the errors which cost them today.

Dundee Sign Zach Robinson

Dundee have signed Zach Robinson on loan for the season from his club AFC Wimbledon. 

The striker has been on loan at Basingstoke Town, Leatherhead, Woking, Hemel Hempstead Town and Hampton & Richmond Borough over the past three years

Zach will wear No 16 for the season at Dens Park.

Falkirk At Home Next For The Dark Blues

Dundee will play Falkirk at home in the last 16 of the League Cup. The tie will be a test for the Dark Blues. It will be played on Tuesday 30th of August with a 19:45 kick off.

Dundee 5, Forfar Athletic 1, Dens Park, League Cup Group H, 23-July-22

Dundee started with a unchanged team which beat Queen's Park in their last game. In the first twenty minutes it was all Dundee. They scored a great goal when great play from Alex Jukubiak beat two players on the wing cut inside into the box and smashed the ball home past the keeper to score.

Minutes later it was 2-0 when McGinn played Alex Jukubiak in and he finished with a neat shot. Cammy Kerr then had a good chance but blasted his shot over the bar.

On 37 minutes it was 3-0 with an outstanding move was finished by Niall McGinn after great play from Max Anderson and Cammy Kerr. 

The fourth goal came on the stroke of half time. McGinn’s corner from the right was headed down by Ryan Sweeney for Tyler French to volley his first goal for the Dee into the roof of the net from close range.

Dundee made changes to the team at half time with Paul McMullan and Ben Williamson came one for Jordan Marshall and Max Anderson.

Dundee did have a few chances in the first 15 minutes but failed to take them. Three more changes to the team when Luke McCowan, Lyall Cameron and Zak Rudden replaced Niall McGinn, Paul McGowan and Alex Jakubiak.

Four minutes and Lyall Cameron made it 5-0 with a well taken goal inside the box making space for himself. Two minutes later Forfar pulled on back when Stefan McCluskey scored.

The rest of the game Dundee pushed for the a sixth goal but missed a few chances Luke McCowan came close with a fine shot.

Another fine win for Dundee and they are set for the next round pf the League Cup.

Queen's Park 1, Dundee 2, Ochilview Park, League Cup Group H, 19-July-22

Dundee kept up their good start to the season with a 2-1 against Queen's Park. Dundee made two changes to the team.   Max Anderson and Josh Mulligan came in for Fin Robertson and Paul McMullan, who were on the bench.

After 15 minutes Ryan Sweeney was unlucky with a header some how Ferrie the Queen's keeper pushed the ball on the bar. Simon Murray had a chance soon after but failed to control the ball 12 yards out.

But Dundee scored on 31 minutes Max Anderson volleyed from a corner but Ferrie again saved well. The keeper recovered to keep out Tyler French’s follow up, but was helpless when Alex Jakubiak nodded the ball home.

Dundee scored again a few minutes later great play from Paul McGowan and his pass found Cammy Kerr who smashed the ball home for a fine goal.

Dundee started the second half well and could have added to their score, but against the run of play Queen's Park pulled one back when Longridge scored with a fine shot. 

Dundee had made changes and had to hang in a bit as Queen's Park gave it a go. Dundee also had chances. Also Keeper Harry Sharp stood firm for the dark blues as they made three wins in a row in the League Cup.

Next up is Forfar Athletic at home this Saturday. again l will miss due to work.

Had a great day down in Stranraer, it was good to meet up with Dave and Phil at the game.

Stranraer 0, Dundee 3, Stair Park, League Cup Group H, 16-July-22

After a long journey down to Stranraer Dundee had four changes to the team that started against Hamilton. Tyler French made his debut, and Fin Robertson, Paul McGowan and Alex Jakubiak also started. They replaced Sam Fisher, Josh Mulligan, and Max Anderson, who were on the bench, and Zak Rudden who was ill.

Dundee struggled a wee bit to create anything on goal with only a Tyler French header across the goal in the first 40 minutes of the cup tie. Stranraer dug in and were hard to break down.

But on 42 minutes Dundee took the lead after they had a few efforts on goal cleared. Cammy Kerr headed home to the relief of the Dundee fans.

Fin Robertson wasted a good chance, blazing high over the bar from a Kerr cut back. A fine pass by Robertson released McMullan on the left but his cross was scrambled past the post for a corner befor Jakubiak could score. A low ball by McGowan flew across goal with Jakubiak unable to reach it as the Dee kept up the pressure.

On the hour Sam Fisher replaced Tyler French and Ben Williamson came on for his debut, in the place of Shaun Byrne.

Dundee finally scored the second on 72 minutes when Sweeney headed down to Paul McGowan who was in space and the midfielder smashed the ball home. Ryan had to go with a cut head being replaced by Josh Mulligan. Cammy Kerr went to centre half.

Dundee sealed the game with a cracking goal from Luke McCowan the young player cut inside and curled the ball home for a great goal. 

Dundee finished the game well and were unlucky not to add to their goal tally.

Dundee Sign Ben Williamson On Loan

Dundee have signed Midfielder  Ben Williamson on a season loan from Rangers. Ben has played at Arbroath and Raith Rovers on loan. And also had a spell at Livingston in the top league. 

Ben will wear No 22 for this season. A good signing for the club as we lack a wee bit in the midfield department so this signing will help.

Dundee started with a young side with three trialists in the line up. Blackburn Rovers also had a young side out with most were Under 23.

Both teams started well and had early chances, Rovers were more dangerous and Harry Sharp had a couple of good saves. 

Rovers took the lead when Ashley Phillips headed home on 31 minutes, they looked like scoring for the ten minutes before they did.

Dundee were struggling in midfield a wee bit but the fans were delighted when the ball broke well and Alex Jakubiak turned well and smashed the ball home for a fine goal.

Dundee made four changes at half time. Ian Lawlor, Ryan Sweeney, Paul McGowan and Luke McCowan came on for Harry Sharp, Tyler French, Max Anderson and Josh Mulligan.

Ian Lawlor had a few saves to make the best was when he tipped a shot on to the bar. Dundee also hit the bar when Paul McMullen curled a shot. 

Cammy Kerr and Jordan Marshall, were replaced by Lyall Cameron and Luke Strachan for the last 13 minutes. Sam Fisher was therefore the only Dee to play the full 90 minutes.

Dundee came close to a winner when McGinn's shot was well saved but the referee gave a corner. The game ended 1-1 and it turned out to be a good work out for the players.

Tyler French Signs For Dundee

 Dundee have signed Tyler French on a two year deal. Tyler had two years at Bradford City and three years at Wrexham. He will wear no 4 this season and will be a good signing for the club. 

The fee was undisclosed and he will know Manager Gary Bowyer well for their time at Bradford City.

Montrose 1, Dundee 1, Links Park, Friendly, 04-July-22

Dundee had to battle to earn a 1-1 draw against Montrose at Links Park. Dundee played well in the first half and were the best side. Alex Jakubiak scored after 29 minutes when he got the final touch after Cammy Kerr had shot at goal. 

Both team had chances and the second half Dundee made a few changes, but they struggled to make any cut clear chances. Montrose levelled the game half way through the half Craig Johnstone scored after poor defending by Dundee.

Late on Cameron hit the bar with a header from a corner,

A scrappy game but at least it was a good work out for the players.

Peterhead 0,Dundee 4, Balmoor Stadium, Friendly, 02-July-22

Dundee got off to a perfect start in their first friendly of the new season winning 4-0 against host Peterhead. They started well and were knocking the ball about well. Peterhead also had a couple of chances but failed to trouble Harry Sharp in the Dundee goal.

Dundee went close  on 29 minutes after good play from Robertson sent Strachan down the wing and his clever pass found Zak Rudden who hit the underside of the bar.

But 9 minutes later it 1-0 when after a shot was blocked Strachan won the ball and put Robertson down the wing he found Zac Rudden who scored with a delightful chip. 

Dundee made 11 changes to the side and soon after it was 2-0 Jakubaik won the ball and raced into the goal instead of shooting he passed to Niall McGinn who had a simple tap in to score.

On 71 minutes it was 3-0 when Luke McCowan made space for himself and smashed the ball home from 18 yards. Three minutes later and it was 4-0 Josh Mulligan scored after a good pass from McCowan he went round the keeper for a fine goal.

A good work out for the team and all the players played 45 minutes which was good to see.

Next up is Montrose on Tuesday at Links Park.

Pre-Season Games

Dundee will play three Pre-Season games, they will play Peterhead on Saturday 2nd of July, then Montrose on the 5th July both away from home. Then on 13th of July they will welcome Blackburn Rovers to Dens Park.

New Manager Gary Bowyer

Dundee have appointed Gary Bowyer as their new manager, his assistant manager will be Billy Barr. The club have taken a while to do this and for myself I'm very happy and look forward to the new season.

Gary has good experience with spells as manager with Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Bradford City and his last club Salford City. 

Hopefully this will push the club forward and exciting times are ahead for the Dundee Fans. I hope they build a team which plays attacking football. The press conference went well and l liked what l heard.

Premier Sports Cup (League Cup)

Dundee were drawn in Group H alongside Queen’s Park, Hamilton Accies, Forfar Athletic and Stranraer. The games will take place in early July. 

Young Players Sign Up

15 players have put pen to paper in the last few weeks as Scott Robertson’s Development squad signed up for the new season.

Full timers from last season Cameron Blacklock, Craig Donald, Thomas Welsh, Luke Graham, Jack Wilkie, Callum Lamb, Tom Findlay, Ewan White and Ewan Murray have all signed extensions and will be with the club for another season.

Carter Kelly, Ruaridh Lynch, Ross Clark, Jamie Richardson, Aulay Martin and Lewis Lorimer have also now signed full time with the club. 

Players Leave Dens Park

With the 2021/22 season at an end, the club can confirm that the following players have departed Dens Park. Liam Fontaine, Danny Mullen, Declan McDaid, Christie Elliott and Charlie Adam. 

Also Vontae Daley-Campbell, Zeno Ibsen Rossi have returned to their Clubs after their loan spell.

Great news that Harry Sharp and Josh Mulligan has been called up for Scotland Under 21's. Both players finished the season well.

Player of the Year 15th of May 2022

Had a great time at the Player of the Year at the Invercarse Hotel in Dundee with the Fife Dark Blues.

Ryan Sweeney had a busy night at the annual DSA Player of the Year awards on Sunday evening as he picked up both the Player’s Player of the Year award and the Andrew De Vries Player of the Year.

The De Vries trophy is voted for by the clubs supporters and is the official club Player of the Year award. Ryan and Cammy Kerr both picked up a number of individual supporters club trophies with Ryan coming out on top to win the overall award.

Max Anderson was presented with the Isobel Sneddon Young Player of the Year award. It’s the second consecutive win of the award for Max but due to covid restrictions last season, it is the first time he has been able to accept the award on stage.

Goal of the season was awarded to Charlie Adam for his stunning strike at Tannadice.

Livingston 2 Dundee 1, Tony Macaroni Arena, cinch Premiership, 15-May-22

Dundee played their last game of the season before life in the Championship next season. They started with the same team with beat Hibernian last Tuesday. 

Dundee started well and McMullen was unlucky not to score with a good shot to force the Livi keeper into a fine save. Minutes later Kerr headed down and Anderson hit the post. Ryan Sweeney then headed over the bar soon after. 

McMullen was again unlucky with a fine shot which needed a fine save, then Sharp made a fine save to deny Livingston taking the lead on half time.

Second half and the hosts started well and pushed Dundee back, Luke McCowan had come on for Paul McMullen at half time. 

Dundee then took the lead Rudden who played Marshall into space on the left. Marshall went for a high, flighted cross and Josh Mulligan headed firmly home at the far post. 

Back came Livingston and they managed to score twice in the last 13 minutes to win the game. We can only look forward to next season and hopefully bounce back up.

Dundee 3, Hibernian 1, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 10-May-22

Manager Mark McGhee made four changes to the team which lost at St Mirren last Saturday. Josh Mulligan, Shaun Byrne, Max Anderson and Paul McMullan started, replacing Paul McGowan, Charlie Adam and Luke McCowan, who were named as substitutes, and Danny Mullen who was unavailable through illness. 

Dundee started well and scored after just three minutes, when Jordan Marshall played Zak Rudden in his shot was saved but it pushed out to Niall McGinn scored with a wee tap in. Hibernian came back into the game but were denied when Harry Sharp saved well and a few minutes later Cammy Kerr done well to block a effort. 

Hibernian levelled the game after 228 minutes slack play let them in and Scott scored with a neat finish. Right on half time it looked like Josh Mulligan had put Dundee ahead again when he headed home, but the linesman flagged it for offside. It looked onside so a tough decision to rule the goal off.

Second half Hibernian started well but they failed to take their chances, Dundee then made two changes Charlie Adam and Luke McCowan coming on for Shaun Byrne and Paul McMullan. It changed the flow of the game as Dundee stepped up a gear. 

After 68 minutes Dundee were back in the lead. McGinn and Marshall combined cleverly on the left. Marshall crossed deep beyond the far post and McCowan headed back for Josh Mulligan  to head home from close range.

Minutes late and another effort from Mulligan was cleared off the line, and then Rudden and McCowan missed great chances. But Dundee finished the game with a stunning third goal. Cammy Kerr made a great run and was stopped by the Hibernian defence , but the ball fell to Charlie Adam who curled home for a superb goal. 

What a finish Dundee ran out time and on the night they could have scored five or six. It was great to see.

St Mirren 2, Dundee 0, SMiSA Stadium, cinch Premiership, 7-May-22

Dundee lost 2-0 in a poor game in their bid to try and stay up. They fell behind after only three minutes when Grieve scored from close range. Dundee tried to attack but looked well off the pace with the Paisley side taking control of the game. 

Young keeper Harry Sharp made a wonderful save to deny Main who had placed his header well. A poor half finish with St Mirren leading 1-0.

Second half and Dundee were the better side in the first ten minutes, but soon after Main made it 2-0 and that finished the game.

Dundee made a few changes to try and get back into the game but this failed and three massive points were lost.

Next Up is Hibernian at Home on Tuesday night.

Dundee made two changes to the team from last week, Ian Lawlor was unavailable through illness so Harrison Sharp played in goal. Shaun Byrne was replaced by Niall McGinn who came in to face his old club.

Dundee had a good first twenty minutes and Danny Mullen was unlucky not to score when the Aberdeen keeper made a great save. Paul McGowan also had a good effort. Dundee finished the half as the better team, but failed to be ahead at the break.

Second half and Aberdeen started better as they pushed Dundee back a bit. Charlie Adam took a knock and was replaced by Josh Mulligan. Soon after and a Ryan Sweeney header was cleared off the line to deny Dundee a goal.

Harrison Sharp pulled off the save of the game, an outstanding stop from Christian Ramirez. The Dons’ striker had time and space to pick his spot from 18 yards but the young Dee keeper made a wonderful save to keep the ball out of his left hand bottom corner.

Dundee made changes to try and win the game sending on Zak Rudden and Luke McCowan for Max Anderson and Niall McGinn. 

Aberdeen took the lead when Ferguson scored from the penalty spot after Hayes had went down in the box. It looked a bit soft to me, but the Referee gave it.

Dundee tried to level the game the best effort was a Josh Mulligan header which went over the bar.

As Dundee play out the last five game of the season, they faced St Johnstone at Dens Park. Manager Mark McGhee started with the team which played at Tannadice last Saturday.

Dundee started well and Cammy Kerr and Max Anderson made some positive runs into the box. It paid off in 10 minutes when Anderson turned superbly into space on the corner of the penalty area and passed to Paul McGowan who set up Jordan Marshall to drill a low shot into the corner of the net from 18 yards.

Soon after McGowan had a good effort which on the wrong side of the post. Ryan Sweeney headed over after a good ball into the box. Perth saints came into the game and Lawlor had to make a fine save which he tipped the ball over the bar.

Second half and St Johnstone started well and Dundee looked to hit on the break, soon after Luke McCowan replaced Paul McMullen. Still saints pushed forward to try and level the game. 

But they did level the game when Rooney headed home from six yards out after twice Dundee had cleared efforts off the line.

The Dark Blues made a double substitution, sending on Zak Rudden and Niall McGinn for Shaun Byrne and Paul McGowan. Dundee had the better of the last 15 minutes, doing most of the late attacking.

But no vital second goal for Dundee and St Johnstone looked happy to take the draw. Next up for Dundee is a trip to Aberdeen next Saturday.

Dundee United 2, Dundee 2, Tannadice, cinch Premiership. 9th April 2022

Dundee Manager Mark McGhee made two changes to the team with Charlie Adam and Max Anderson came in for Zak Rudden and Christie Elliott. The defence switched  back to a four man formation.

Both teams started a bit slow and scrappy and it United who got the vital first goal, Dundee gave the ball away and when it was put high into our box Lawlor went for the high ball and was never getting close to it. It was knocked on and gave Clark a simple header to score for the home side. 

Dundee came back and Danny Mullen miskicked the ball from a few feet from a certain goal, but it went into the arms of the home keeper. Both teams tried to get goals but the final balls were not good enough.  

In the second half Niall McGinn replaced Paul McGowan as Dundee looked to get back into the match, but soon after it was 2-0 United. A free kick was given and Mulgrew curled the ball home when likely a cross was expected.

Dundee came back and on 59 minutes it was 2-1 when after a great run from Cammy Kerr his cross was headed home by Danny Mullen. It again gave the Dundee fans a big lift. It was no surprize two minutes later it was 2-2. A good move and the ball was played to Charlie Adam and he scored from 30 yards out to set up a great finish to this game.

United missed two chances and put the ball over the bar from eight yards when really should have scored. The best two chances Dundee had when McGinn hit the bar with a dipping shot, and in injury time Sweeney headed over the bar.

Dundee deserved a win today but maybe it was right to be a draw, it was happier Dundee fans after the game.

Dundee's only change to the team was Danny Mullen came in for Declan McDaid, who was on the bench. Dundee started well and went for goal straight away, Christie Elliott hit the ball with pace across the Aberdeen box. 

Aberdeen then had a couple of chances and Lawlor done well to save when the ball  hit the bar. The game went end to end with a lot of scrappy football as both teams struggled to get the final move to create the first goal.

Dundee went close when Mullen's shot shaved the bar, at the other end Cammy Kerr headed one off the line, but the first goal came on 41 minutes when Ramsay scored with a fine shot to give Aberdeen the lead in the first half which came minutes later.

Second half and Dundee had a effort blocked to deny Rudden, Aberdeen attack more and it made Dundee change it when Charlie Adam came on for Christie Elliott. 

It changed the game as Dundee looked better going forward, and on 59 minutes Dundee were level. A good free kick after Marshall was fouled and Adam's cross was headed home by Jordan McGhee. It gave the Dundee support a lift.

But on 81 minutes Aberdeen took the lead again when McRorie scored from close in a poor goal to lose, I think the defence was too busy watching the diving Aberdeen strike who went down  looking for a penalty. 

Dundee hit back on 86 minutes again another free kick for Charlie Adam and his ball was headed home by Danny Mullen. Bothe teams went for the winner but it ended 2-2.

A point which Dundee fully deserved and gives us more hope of winning games in the coming weeks.

Dundee 1, Rangers 2, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 20-March-22

Dundee made five changes from the team beaten by Rangers in the cup last Sunday. Ian Lawlor, Christie Elliott, Shaun Byrne, Declan McDaid and Zak Rudden started in the places of Harrison Sharp, Lee Ashcroft, Max Anderson, Niall McGinn and Danny Mullen. Ashcroft and Mullen were injured. The other three were named as substitutes. 

They got off to a great start and scored on six minutes, good play from Rudden and Marshall and his cross was headed home by Christie Elliott to the delight of the Dundee fans. Both teams had chances soon after and McMullen just about got through on goal but the Rangers keeper got there first. 

Rangers got another soft penalty but this time they missed it, justice was done with that. Dundee got to half time pretty well even in the game.

Second half and the visitors made a few changes and it made a difference with more pressure on the Dundee defence with keeper Lawlor having to save a few. Dundee tried to hit on the break but it was tough going. Rangers did levelled when Ramsay scored from close range. 

It did look like Dundee were holding out for a vital point but Goldstone scored the winner for Rangers with 4 minutes to go. 

Dundee put in a lot of effort today, and were a lot better to watch than last week. Next up is Aberdeen at Dens a week on Saturday.

Dundee 0, Rangers 3, Dens Park, Scottish Cup 1/4 Final. 13-March-22

Dundee were beaten 3-0 in this Scottish Cup 1/4 tie at Dens Park. Rangers scored early after a bit of pressure. Dundee tried but were second best in the opening 20 minutes. The game was nearly finished when the Referee pointed to the spot to award a penalty. It was a very soft award and with Rangers scoring it was a long way back for the dark blues.

Second half and Rangers scored again to make the final score 3-0. A bad day at the office for Dundee, not helped by the small crowd for a 1/4 Final tie, sadly money and TV has a lot to answer for.  

At least now the club can focus on the final league run in which won't be easy.

Dundee again had to make changes when Luke McCowan and Niall McGinn returned to the starting line up in place of Shaun Byrne and Vontae Daley-Campbell. A vital game for Dundee and they need the points as tougher games are coming up. 

Both teams knocked the ball about with out either keeper getting tested, Dundee had few efforts at goal and only a deflected shot from Max Anderson which went wide. It was much like that in the first half.

Second half and Dundee did much the same as the first half, they had efforts at goal which all went wild. The one thing that got me was a few decent crosses were put in but nobody up front to attack the ball.

St Mirren  should have scored but some how the player put the ball over the ball, it should have been a goal. Dundee tried to go forward but some of the players were now getting tired.

Dundee made two changes with Shaun Byrne and Zak Rudden being introduced in place of Luke McCowan and Declan McDaid but it was the visitors who continued with the pressure.

St Mirren looked the better side and had good efforts on goal, and a headed goal ruled out for a foul. But in injury time they got the winner when Ronan headed home. A poor goal to lose as he was not picked up. 

This goal will make it very hard for Dundee to stay up as the game will be harder before the split. I can only back my team on which l will do.

Dundee were forced to make five changes from the team that drew with Hibs on Wednesday. Ian Lawlor was unavailable so Harrison Sharp came in for his league debut in goal. Lee Ashcroft, Shaun Byrne, Vontae Daley-Campbell and Declan McDaid all started, replacing Charlie Adam, Paul McGowan, Niall McGinn and Danny Mullen.

Dundee got off to a great start when Paul McMullen took control of the ball and cut inside to curl home to the delight of the Dundee fans. It really settled the side and they looked really up for the fight. It made  Motherwell  come out a bit and Dundee used this to hit on the break. 

The home side were level on 12 minutes when good play set up Elford who scored with ease, soon after Dundee were looking good and had efforts on goal which on another day they would go in. 

The defence looked a lot better and Harrison Sharp done really well in goal. It was 1-1 at half-time.

Second half and Motherwell put Dundee under pressure but they coped okay, soon after Dundee made two changes as Vontae Daley-Campbell was replaced by Jay Chapman who moved into the central midfield. Anderson went to the left and McMullan switched to the right wing.

The change almost paid immediate dividends. McMullan raced past Ojala and from the cross Declan McDaid hooked his shot past the angle of post and bar. A minute later McDaid had another go. His shot deflected off Jordan McGhee but Kelly was able to readjust and save.

In the last 15 minutes Motherwell went for a winner but Dundee battled well , defended well and seen out the time for a vital point.

Dundee made five changes to the team, in came Jordan Marshall, Charlie Adam, Paul McMullen, Paul McGowan and Niall McGinn started. The five players who dropped out were Vontae Daley-Campbell, Zeno Ibsen Rossi, Josh Mulligan and Shaun Byrne who shifted onto the bench and Zak Rudden who was unavailable for Covid related reasons, as were Luke McCowan and Christie Elliot.

Dundee started slowly and visitors Hibernian were much the same, Jordan McGhee was unlucky when he shot over the bar after a good move. Hibs had forced Lawlor into a couple of saves but nothing to worry the keeper. 

Second half was just as slow but sparked into life when Charlie Adam came very close to a goal, his shot shaved the post. Hibernian were down to ten men when Bushiri was sent off for a off ball foul. 

This helped Dundee to have a spell but they failed to score as the game ended in a draw. Poor stuff from both teams in my view. Dundee will see it as points dropped which is vital in their fight to stay in the league. At least it was a lot better than last Saturday.

Tough Watch..

Hopefully Dundee can bounce back on Wednesday when they play Hibs at Dens Park. One thing for sure they really need to if they have any chance of staying in the top league. From my point of view they were too slow and never looked up for the challenge. 

Maybe tough on the young players but they need to step up. Livingston fully deserved the win but it was so easy for them after the first 20 minutes.

At least now new Manager Mark McGhee will see it's a big job ahead and it will take a lot of effort to make the play-off as l can't see any better in the final league position. 

It was a very tough watch on Saturday and l have seen a few in the last 41 years, it was the lack of fight which was bad. I will back the team and can only hope for the best until the end of the season.

Dundee 0, Livingston 4, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 26-February-22

Dundee's only change from Parkhead was Zak Rudden replaced Paul McMullen. Dundee were looking to get points in their fight to stay up this season. 

Dundee started on the attack but failed to create anything clear and it Livingston who struck first on six minutes. Poor defending let a strong cross which Lawlor parried and Anderson had a easy tap in to score. Dundee did attack in the next ten minutes with Rossi having a shot blocked after being set up by Cammy Kerr.

When Livingston attacked and put crosses in Dundee were struggling to cope and on 18 minutes it was 2-0. More poor marking and Pittman scored from a few yards out. Two minutes later and it 3-0 another poor goal to lose a long free kick and a low cross fell to Anderson in the box and he scored with ease.

Dundee sent on Paul McMullen for Zeno Ibsen Rossi as Dundee changed to 4-4-2 to try and get back into the game before half-time. Sadly they failed and were still struggling to attack that would lead to a fightback.

Second half and Dundee made two changes Charlie Adam and Niall McGinn came on for Shaun Byrne and Josh Mulligan. But Livingston looked like they would score again. They did but it was ruled offside. Dundee had a few attacks but never tested the Livi goalkeeper.

Again Livingston came close with two efforts just going wide, but on 65 minutes it 4-0 a simple low cross found Fitzwater scored with a well placed shot across Lawlor. As the game went on it looked like Livingston would score more, Dundee were second to best all over the pitch and fully deserved to lose this game. 

The final whistle went with sadly a lot of Dundee fans had left due to the game they had just watched.

Celtic 3, Dundee 2, Parkhead, cinch Premiership, 20-February-22

Dundee Manager Mark McGhee made two changes from the team that started at Peterhead. Vontae Daley-Campbell returned from suspension and Josh Mulligan retained his place after being a substitute on Monday. They replaced the injured Charlie Adam, and Niall McGinn, who was on the bench.

As usual at Parkhead Dundee were under pressure as Celtic had a lot of the ball, Dundee were playing a 5-3-2 formation so likely would hit on the break. Dundee were working hard to stop Celtic and they only went close once.

Dundee pushed forward and won two corners, the second one was successful when Danny Mullen peeled away to the back post and when McMullen's corner fell to the striker he kept his cool and side footed the ball home for the lead.

Celtic came back and within 8 minutes they were 2-1 up and this was the score at half time, it's a pity about the second goal and going in level at the break would have been better.

Second half and Dundee made  two changes when Niall McGinn and Luke McCowan replaced  Paul McMullan and Josh Mulligan.

Again it was more pressure from Celtic, but on 60 minutes it was 2-2 from a Niall McGinn provided a fine cross from the right and Ryan Sweeney headed powerfully inside Joe Hart’s right hand post from 15 yards.

Soon after and after great play and pass from Max Anderson Danny Mullen just put the ball over the bar, it was a good spell for Dundee.

Celtic scored what proved to be the winner with four minutes to go, it was a hat trick for the home striker. Zak Rudden replaced Zeno Ibsen Rossi for the three minutes injury time.

Dundee did push forward and had shouts for a penalty when the ball came off a Celtic player, but the referee waved play on and blew the full time whistle.

Dundee will feel a bit unlucky today, at the least the effort was there and if they will face the next two games in the same manner points should come their way.
