21st June 2021

Dundee players today returned to Pre-Season training today, they will be joined by Corey Panter of Luton Town who is set to join Dundee on loan for this season.

18th June 2021

Dundee will play Leyton Orient (6th July) and West Ham United (9th July) at Dens Park in Pre-Season games. 

17th June 2021

Lyall Cameron and Josh Mulligan have joined Peterhead on season long loans. Both players spent time at the Blue Toon last season and will return for the 2021/22 campaign.

16th June 2021

Dundee have signed Ryan Sweeney on a two year deal. The centre half has played for Wimbledon, Stoke City, two loan spells at Bristol Rovers and Mansfield Town. He joined Mansfield and has played over 100 games for The Stags. Ryan will wear No 5 and will meet his new team mates when Pre-Season starts on Monday.

Dundee will play St Mirren at home when the league games start on 31st of July, followed by a trip to face Celtic, then Hibs at home and finish August with a trip to Fir Park to face Motherwell.

Paul McMullen Signs Two Year Deal

Paul McMullen has signed a two year contract with the club, after joining on a Pre-Contract deal in January, then he was allowed to join Dundee shortly after this. The winger played 19 games and with 13 assists.

Manager James McPake and Assistant Manager Dave Mackay has signed new contracts with the club. Great news for the club.

Players Depart Dens Park........

Goal keepers Jack Hamilton and Calum Ferrie have left the club at the conclusion of their contracts. 

Jack joined the club in 2018 and made 60 appearances for the club. Last season as the team gained promotion to the Premiership, Jack featured 13 times.

Calum moved to Dens a few years before Jack and was a regular in the Under 20s and had loan spells with Stirling and Falkirk. He made six appearances for the first team in his time with the club.

Osman Sow will also move on from the club after agreeing a move to join a team overseas. Osman signed ahead of the Championship campaign getting underway and hit the net 10 times throughout the season.

Nicholas Hamilton and Jonathan Afolabi have returned to their parent clubs following the completion of their loan spells.

Michael Cunningham, Kyle Fleming, Louis Joyce, Finn Kemlo, Adam Mansouri and Grady McGrath have also all left the club.

2nd June 2021

Dundee will start Pre-Season with a game against Forfar Athletic at Station Park, it will kick off at 2pm on the 26th of June.

Adam Legzdins has signed a new two year deal with the club, he joined the club last November and had six clean sheets in the final stages of the season. Great news for the club.

Paul McGowan has won goal of the season for his effort against Ayr United in April at Somerset Park.

Luke Signs.....

Dundee have signed of Luke McCowan on a two year deal. Luke who came through the ranks at Ayr United made his debut in 2017 and impressed throughout the Championship campaign last season, scoring nine times for the Honest Men.

He hit the net in matches against Alloa, Hearts and Morton. 

League Cup Games.......

Our Premier Sports Cup campaign will kick off with a home match against Brora Rangers on Tuesday 13th July, kick off 7.45pm.

We’ll then travel to Dingwall on Sunday 18th to take on Ross County live on Premier, kick off 3pm.

Wednesday 21st July sees us travel to Links Park to play Montrose before we finish the group section at Dens against Forfar Athletic on 24th July, kick off 3pm.

Cammy Kerr has signed a new two year contract with the club, Cammy has made 181 appearances for the club.

Glens Manager of the Year Award......

James McPake has won the Glens Manager of the year for season 2020-21. After a slow start it has been well deserved come the end of the season.

Liam Fontaine signs up for next season which is great news for the club, Liam as been added a lot to our defence since signing last November.

Dundee will be in Group C alongside Ross County, Forfar Athletic, Montrose, and Bora Rangers after the draw for the 2021/22 Premier Sports Cup took place this afternoon.

Kilmarnock 1, Dundee 2, Rugby Park, Play-Offs Final 2nd Leg, 24-May-21

In this second leg final against Kilmarnock, Dundee made one change Jordan Marshall came in for Christie Elliott, with Cammy Kerr moving across from left to right back. 

Dundee got off to the perfect start scoring from their first attack.  A Killie attack broke down and the ball was cleared to the half way line. Danny Mullen won an aerial challenge allowing Paul McMullan to race through the middle, supported by Mullen and Jordan McGhee, facing only two Killie defenders. McMullan shaped to send McGhee in on goal but switched the ball the other way for Danny Mullen to stroke his shot across Doyle and inside the far post. It was a lethal break capped with a delightful finish.

Five minutes and it was 2-0 when from a Paul McGowan corner Lee Ashcroft headed home to put Dundee 4-1 up on the tie. Dundee could have made it three nil but Jordan McGhee's header came back off the bar. 

Killie struggled to trouble the Dundee defence and that was after they changed their formation playing three and the back and three up front.

Killie did scored with 77 minute on the clock, Kyle Lafferty went down after a challenge from Legzdins and the striker scored from the spot. Dundee managed the next 10 minutes okay and they seen the game out without being troubled. 

Pure dee light for the Dundee players at the end, they have done the job which looked pretty unlikely in January. The squad has come good at the right time. James McPake has proved a lot of people wrong as many called for his head. 

So back to the Top league for the club. Happy Dundee fans which will last all summer now!

Dundee 2, Kilmarnock 1, Dens Park, Play-Offs Final 1st Leg, 20-May-2021

Dundee Manager James McPake made two changes from the semi-final second leg against Raith. Liam Fontaine returned in central defence with Jordan McGhee moving forward into the midfield and Max Anderson on the bench. Danny Mullen started with Jason Cummings named as a substitute.

Dundee got off to a perfect start scoring after only  six minutes when Christie Elliott moved infield and found Charlie Adam who flighted a lovely pass over the defence for Cammy Kerr to race in and cross with a first time volley. Danny Mullen’s glancing header was pushed onto the post by keeper Doyle, but Jordan McGhee was on hand to score from three yards. 

It should have been 2-0 minutes later when Paul McMullen raced clear but Doyle in the Killie goal managed to block his effort. Killie had a wee bit of pressure but failed to trouble the Dundee defence. 

Dundee had a good chance before the end of the first half when McGhee's shot just wide, after good play from Danny Mullen.

Dundee like the first half got the second goal on their first attack great work from Christie Elliott forced Killie captain Gary Dicker to lose the ball 30 yards from his own goal. Paul McMullan pounced, raced into the penalty area and laid the ball back for Charlie Adam to smash home the vital second goal from 12 yards. 

Dundee had to make a change when Elliott picked up a injury being replaced by Jordan Marshall, Dundee were in total control in the first 30 minutes of the second half. Doyle made a great save from Mullen or it would have been 3-0.

But Kilmarnock scored on 77 minutes when Haunstrup had the chance to shoot from the edge of the area. Mullen and Kerr flung themselves in the way to block, but the ball broke perfectly to leave the Killie left back in the clear with the two Dees on the deck. He shot through Legzdin’s leg to give Kilmarnock a vital goal.

Dundee pushed forward in the last 10 minutes but failed to get the vital third goal, it was a great all round performance from every one in dark blue. They will need to do it all again on Monday night, at least they know what is needed in the second leg.  

It was also wonderful for 500 lucky Dundee fans who watched the game, they backed the team for the whole 90 minutes.

Kilmarnock Next For The Dark Blues.......

 Dundee will play Kilmarnock in the Play-Off Final. The first leg on Thursday will be at Dens Park, the second leg will be at Rugby Park on Monday. Both games will be on SKY TV with highlights on BBC1 on Thursday night at 23:30.

Dundee 0, Raith Rovers 1, Dens Park, Play-Offs Semi-Final 2nd Leg, 15-May-21

Dundee made just one forced change to the side from their last game, Max Anderson coming in for the injured Liam Fontaine. Jordan McGhee moved back in to defence.

Raith Rovers started well and pushed Dundee back, they forced Adam Legzins into a couple of saves, Dundee had a glorious chance when a great ball into the box and Ashcroft put it over the ball from six yards. Rovers scored on 22 minutes when good play from Lewis Vaughan and his neat turn before blasting home.

Dundee came back and Max Anderson had a good chance but the Rovers keeper saved with his knees. Dundee kept going and they defended well to keep score at half-time at 1 nil.

Second half and both team had chances but Dundee defended well and really looked in no danger of losing further goals. 

It was a hard one to see out, they needed a goal to finish the tie. But in the end they got the job done. Dundee will play Kilmarnock or Ross County as both teams play their final game on Sunday.

Players Awards................

 Lee Ashcroft  won the Andrew De Vries Player of the Year award and the Player’s Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season. 

The De Vries trophy is voted for by the Dundee FC Supporters Association supporters clubs and is the club’s official Player of the Year award.

Lee picked up an incredible 16 individual awards from the clubs to win the overall trophy.

His teammates also selected him as the stand out performer of the season as he became the third player to win both awards in the same season since the Player’s Player was introduced five seasons ago.

Max Anderson has won the Isobel Sneddon Young Player of the Year award for 2020/21. The young midfielder has done really well this season and looks a real prospect for the future.

Well done to both players who fully deserve their awards, and hopefully next year we  the fans can attend the player of the year which is a great night out.

Raith Rovers 0, Dundee 3, Starks Park, Championship Play-Off Semi-Final 1st Leg, 12-May-21

Dundee took a massive step in this Play-off Semi-Final, winning 3-0 in the away leg against Raith Rovers. The only team change was Liam Fontaine came back replacing Max Anderson. Jordan McGhee kept his place but he moved into the midfield.

Dundee started well and they looked good going forward, Paul McMullen fired wide of the goal and any Rovers attacks were blocked by Cammy Kerr and Charlie Adam.

Dundee took the lead half way through the half, a delightful 40 yard pass from Adam found Jordan McGhee in the box to place a precise volley across Jamie MacDonald and into the net. It was a superb goal from the dark blues. 

Dundee got lucky when Rovers scored just before half-time and it was ruled out for off side, it should have been a goal. 

Second half and Dundee doubled their lead when again Charlie Adam played a superb ball to the on running Jordan McGhee who finished well. 

Dundee were in total control and they were able to make changes to the team, and it paid off Adam found Max Anderson wide and he played in Osman Sow who scored the third goal to seal a vital first leg win.

Dundee now play Rovers again at Dens on Saturday, I'm sure they will prepare right and treat the game in the right manner.

Queen of the South 0, Dundee 2, Palmerstone Park, Scottish Championship, 30-April-21

Dundee secured second spot in the league after a fine 2-0 win at Queen of the South. The only change in the Dundee line up was Max Anderson replaced the injured Liam Fontaine. 

Dundee started well and knocked the ball about, and attacked with pace when they broke from defence. Jason Cummings had two efforts on goal, before Paul McMullen hit the ball off the bar,  a couple of inched down it would have been a goal.  

But a couple of minutes later and Jason Cummings scored after beating the off-side trap to round the keeper to score the vital opening goal. It was a great pass from McMullen to set up the goal.

This settled Dundee and they kept going forward with the defence looking good and solid. Queens did have a few efforts but they never troubled Adam Legzdins in the Dundee goal.

Max Anderson had a great chance but the young midfielder just missed the target with a fine shot, but minutes later and Jason Cummings scored again after his first shot was saved, but the ball bounced of Jason's knee and into the net. 

Second half and Cummings nearly got his hat-trick but his shot was just wide, Dundee were in control of the game and were never in any danger of losing the game. 

Paul McMullen almost scored with a rising shot which just missed the top corner of the goal. Declan McDaid and Osman Sow replaced McMullen and Cumming in the last 15 minutes. 

Dundee seen the game out and it was good to see as the club finished second and it means two less games in the play-offs. Raith Rovers and Dunfermline Athletic will now play and Dundee will play the winner in the Semi-Final.

Dundee 2, Raith Rovers 1, Dens Park, Scottish Championship, 24th April 2021

Dundee  made three changes to the starting line-up following the draw at Inverness. Charlie Adam and Jason Cummings retained their places after coming on as substitutes on Tuesday in the places of Jonathan Afolabi and Danny Mullen, who were on the bench. Paul McGowan returned from injury to replace Declan McDaid, who had a hamstring problem.

Dundee started in a positive mood and pushed the visitors back, they took a early lead from the penalty spot after the ball was handled in the box. Jason Cummings scored with ease for his sixth goal for the Dark Blues.

This settled the team and they attacked down both wings, Rovers only real effort on goal came with a long range shot which was 10 feet wide of the goal. 

Dundee made 2-0 when Liam Fontaine headed home although it was cleared off the line the referee gave the goal after a quick glance to the linesman to see if his flag had been up.

Second half and Dundee started okay , but the longer the game went it was Raith who came into the game. Adam Legzdins had to made a fine save to deny Hendry . 

Thankfully that was it until the final few minutes when ex dee Kyle Benedictus scored from close range to give rovers hope. But in injury time they had a player sent off when Tait was given a straight red card after he had fouled Paul McGowan.

Dundee were able to run down the clock in what was a vital three points, Dundee were pretty poor in the second half but the main thing they won the game.

Inverness CT 1, Dundee 1, Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, Scottish Championship, 20th April 2021

Dundee drew 1-1 at Inverness on Tuesday night, they had to come back after nine men Caledonian Thistle took the lead with six minutes to go. But Lee Ashcroft scored with a looping header two minutes later.

Dundee had a good goal ruled out when Jason Cummings headed home, it was ruled to be offside. Dundee had a few chance during the game but they could not put the ball into the net.

A vital point tonight but they need to beat Raith Rovers on Saturday as the battle for second place hots up.

Dunfermline Athletic 0, Dundee 0, East End Park, Scottish Championship, 13th April 2021

Dundee earned a points at East End Park drawing 0-0 with Dunfermline Athletic. Dundee played some neat football but could not turn it into goals. With Raith Rovers winning is was two points dropped in the race for second place.

Team wise there were three changes to the starting line up with Jordan McGhee , Cammy Kerr, and Shaun Byrne replacing Christie Elliot, and Paul McGowan and Max Anderson missed out due to injury.

The only down point was a hamstring injury to Jordan Marshall after only 16 minutes. At least is was a point gained and kept the gap between Dundee and Dunfermline. Big game next Tuesday when Dundee play Inverness CT which is a must win game now.

Dundee 1, Morton 1, Dens Park Scottish Championship, 10-April-21

Dundee drew 1-1 with Morton at Dens Park this afternoon. Dundee fielded the same team which played at Ayr in midweek, with Osman Sow back on the bench. Going by reports it was a very poor first half with both teams struggling. Only real chance was a blocked shot from Jason Cummings.

Dundee were slightly better in the second half with Cummings and McDaid has chances, soon after that Cummings had to go off injured replaced by Jonathan Afolabi. On 77 minutes Morton took the lead against the run of play. Lewis Strapp’s 20 yard shot was firm, low and heading inside the post. Legzdins did well to save, but Aidan  Nesbitt followed up to score. 

A few minutes earlier Osman Sow had come on for Danny Mullen, and Charlie Adam now replaced Max Anderson. Dundee had to come forward now and went close when Adam and Ashcroft forced the Morton keeper into decent saves.

But with two minutes left Lee Ashcroft scored to earn Dundee a vital draw. It will prove a vital point but it could have been better as all the other games ended in draws in the Division.

News From Dens...............

Paul McGowan has had his contract extended for another year thanks to a clause in his current deal if he managed enough  appearances for the first team.

Manager James McPake has won the Glens Manager of the month for March. This is the second time James has won it , the last time was last October.

Ayr United 0, Dundee 3, Somerset Park, Scottish Championship, 6-April-21

Dundee beat Ayr United 3-0 at Somerset Park in what is Dundee's best away performance of the season so far. The goals were scored by Max Anderson, Jonathan Afolabi and Paul McGowan in the last 23 minutes of the game.

A clean sheet will also please Manager James McPake as the season draws to a close with Dundee having five league games to go. Maybe Dundee are hitting form at the right time.

All the goals were good and Paul McGowan scored a cracker with a neat chip after a great passing move from the team. 

Next up is Morton at Dens Park tomorrow, another three points would be great in our quest for promotion to the Premier League.

Dundee 0, St Johnstone 1, Dens Park, Scottish Cup 3rd Round, 3-April-21

Dundee made four changes to the team which beat Dunfermline Athletic last week,  Cammy Kerr, Shaun Byrne, Charlie Adam and Danny Mullen returned to the starting eleven. Christie Elliott, Paul McGowan and Jason Cummings were on the bench, and Osman Sow was injured.

Both teams struggled in the first 15 minutes or so. But on 20 minutes Saints took the lead when Melamed scored with a shot across the keeper after May had crossed into the box. Dundee hit back and McMullen was really unlucky when his shot cracked of the the bar with the goalkeeper well beaten.

Dundee started the second half brightly and came agonisingly close to a quick equaliser. Charlie Adam’s cross was taken high by Zander Clark, who fumbled the ball when he hit the ground. Danny Mullen gratefully scrambled the ball into the net but his celebration was abruptly cut short when he noticed the assistant flagging for the referee’s attention. After a lengthy discussion Mr Napier disallowed the goal. The only plausible explanation is that Mullen must have been marginally offside when Adam crossed.

Dundee had to make a change when Ashcroft got injured , he was replaced by McGowan. Also Cummings replaced Anderson. Dundee were pushing for a goal and got a Penalty after the Saints keeper fouled Mullen in the box. Charlie Adam took it but the saints keeper made a fine save to deny the Dundee midfielder. 

Dundee tried to get level and McDaid was unlucky when his shot was blocked.

So that ends Dundee's interest in this years Scottish Cup, hopefully next season we will be in a better position to have a good run in the Cups we are certainly due one as Fans.

Dundee made two changes to the team with Fontaine and Sow replacing Fisher and Mullen. Charlie Adam missed the game due to suspension.

Dundee started slowly and fell behind when O'Hara scored after just two minutes, worse was to follow when a poor defensive clearance fell nicely for Wighton and the Ex-Dundee striker scored with a delightful lob to put the Pars firmly in the driving seat in this vital game for both clubs.

After this poor start Dundee settled and they took the game to Dunfermline and McMullen had a good effort saved well by Fon Williams. Dundee were putting in some decent crosses with Ashcroft going  close twice with headers.

But on 30 minutes Dundee pulled one back when Jason Cummings scored with a follow up header after Sow had two efforts saved by the Pars keeper.

Dundee finished the half strongly and if they can get the next goal they will be back in the game big time.

Second half and Dundee start very well and Danny Mullen comes close with a shot which the keeper touches his shot onto the bar. Next he denies Ashcroft with a great double save. But Dundee draw level when after another Ashcroft header is saved Danny Mullen was quick to stab the ball home.

Minutes later it was 3-2 Dundee when Lee Ashcroft headed home despite the a great effort from the Pars keeper. Dundee were in total control and deserved to be ahead in the game. They kept attacking and were unlucky not to increase their lead.

Dunfermline made three changes to try and get back into the game, and they did have a couple of chances late on. Dundee kept working hard to close them down and attack well to see the game out.

A massive three points for the club tonight and it was good to see the players work their socks off to come back from 2-0 down. They had 21 efforts at goal tonight so that is a big improvement.

Dens Park Round Up

Results went for Dundee on Saturday and it sets up a big game this Saturday against Dunfermline Athletic. The game will be shown live on the BBC with a 19:20 Kick-Off.

Malachi Fagan-Walcott has returned to Spurs due to the injury the young defender picked up against Arbroath. Malachi has done well and looked a good player and will have a bright future in the game.

Alloa Athletic 0, Dundee 3, Indodrill Stadium, Scottish Championship, 19-March-21

Dundee had to get back on track after Tuesday's defeat at Dens, the only change to the side was Declan McDaid replaced Charlie Adam who was on the bench.

Dundee started well and forced a couple of corners and Jason Cummings  header was straight at the keeper, Lee Ashcroft should have scored but put his header wide.

Alloa had a few chances but nothing to trouble the Dundee defence. Dundee did take the lead when Lee Ashcroft headed home from a McGowan corner. A fine time to score and Dundee looked comfy for rest of the half.

At the start of the second half and Cummings had a good effort saved by the keeper, but Dundee doubled their lead when again Lee Ashcroft headed home again from a McGowan corner. 

Dundee coming forward with some neat football and Mullen headed wide, but they put the game to bed when good play and pass from McMullen found Max Anderson took a touch before scoring with a well struck shot into the far corner of the net.

Dundee saw the game out and used their subs to give other players a run out. A good performance and it was good to see youngsters Max Anderson and Sam Fisher having fine games. The whole team played well and it was good to see.

Dundee made two changes from Saturday, Sam Fisher retained his place after replacing the injured Malachi Fagan-Walcott, and Charlie Adam returned to the starting 11 at the expense of Declan McDaid.

Dundee struggled in the first 15 minutes and gave the ball away too much, Ayr United took the lead on 17 minutes. A poor goal to give away after losing the ball 40 yards from goal. Dundee struggled for the rest of the half.

Second half and after they changed the midfield with Adam lying deeper it changed very little. Ayr doubled their lead after more slack play from the dark blues. 

Changes were made when Declan McDaid and Osman Sow came on for Paul McGowan and Danny Mullen, followed by Jonathan Afolabi replacing Jason Cummings. The result was constant Dundee attacking, but it was all ineffectual.

Ayr wrapped up the points when they scored a third and Dundee did score with Osman Sow scored from close range. 

A poor result and performance from the dark blues and they must pick themselves up for the visit to Alloa on Friday.

Dundee made two changes to the team that played Hearts last week. Adam Legzdins replaced Jack Hamilton in goal and Malachi Fagan-Walcott came in for the injured Liam Fontaine in central defence. 

Dundee had the early play but failed to create anything in the box, Arbroath were slowly coming into the game. Danny Mullen was unlucky with a flick which Gaston does well to save. Them a good pass from McMullen just about put Anderson through on goal, but again Gaston done well to save.

Then against the run of play Arbroath were awarded a penalty after Malachi Fagan-Walcott was judged  to have fouled Thomson following a corner. But Adam Legzdins pulled off a great diving save to deny Michael  McKenna. Just before half-time and Cummings came close with a shot on which the striker could not keep down.

At the start of the second half and Danny Mullen fired over the bar when he should have scored, but the striker made amends five minutes later when headed home to give Dundee the vital lead. 

Just after that the striker was was replaced by Charlie Adam as Dundee looked to take more control of the midfield. Then McMullen put a great ball across the box but no Dundee player were quick enough to take advantage. 

Then Sam Fisher replaced the injured Malachi Fagan-Walcott and fitted well in to the defence. Dundee had upped the pace looking for the second killer goal. 

With eight minutes to go Max Anderson made it 2-0 when he fired home after a good run and cross from McMullen. That sealed the win and three points. In the final minutes Charlie Adam tried twice with long range efforts. The second one was pretty close.

A good win for Dundee, a solid team performance and it moved Dundee back into the play-off places.

Hearts 2, Dundee 1, Tynecastle, Scottish Championship, 06-March-21

 

Dundee started with the same team which played Inverness CT on Tuesday night. They started the game well moving the ball about. But they failed to test Craig Gordon with Hearts coming more into the game. 

The home side took the lead 10 minutes from half-time when Halliday headed home from six yards after a good move. On the stroke of half-time McGowan nearly levelled the game when his dipping shot hit the underside of the bar. McMullen headed the rebound over the bar when he might have scored.

Second half and both teams had chances, Boyce hit the bar from 12 yards, Dundee went up the park and Anderson was unlucky with his shot.

But Hearts made it 2-0 on 58 minutes when Gnanduillet shot first time, Hamilton saved well, but the rebound struck the striker on the shin and looped into the net. 

Five minutes later and Dundee scored via the penalty spot after a foul on Anderson in the box. Jason Cummings scored with a powerful drive to give Dundee hope of a draw.

They were playing well and Sow missed a header, Cummings went close with a header with Gordon having to save.

Hearts went down to 10 men when Haring was sent off  after doing a high tackle on McDaid. Time ran out for the Dee..It's been the story of our season go behind and then having to chase the game...They seem to play better.

Dundee 2, Inverness Caley Thistle 1, Dens Park, Scottish Championship, 3-March -21

Dundee got back to winning ways with a fine 2-1 victory over Inverness Caley Thistle. Manager James McPake started with team which finished at Morton on Saturday.

Dundee started slowly and it took them a while to get going, but their first attack they nearly scored, with Paul McGowan shooting over when he had more time than he thought. 

But in 10 minutes they took the lead with a fine goal, good play from McDaid who's pass was wide for McMullen and his low cross was swept home at the second attempt by Max Anderson. It was his first league goal for the club.

Dundee looked to add to the score line and Cummings, Mullen and McDaid all came close with good efforts. But right on half-time it was 2-0 when Jason Cummings turned quickly to finish off a half chance after the visitors failed to clear their line.

Second half and Osman Sow replaced Danny Mullen who had taken a head knock. Dundee kept trying to add a third goal, but it was Inverness CT who scored to make it 2-1 when Todorov headed home from 8 yards. Dundee did not panic and were comfy in the last 15 minutes or so . Jack Hamilton done well with a tricky cross near the end.

A fine three points and it sets up the visit to Tynecastle on Saturday, where Dundee must go for the win,  to try and seal a play-off spot at the end of the season.

Morton 2, Dundee 2, Cappielow, Scottish Championship, 27-February-21

 Dundee had to make changes to the team due to Covid 19 with one player having to isolate after  one positive tests came back on Friday. Christie Elliott and Finlay Robertson came in for Cammy Kerr, who was on the bench, and Charlie Adam. 

Dundee started slowly and struggled to get a passing game going with only a Jason Cummings shot which did not trouble the Morton keeper. But after 30 minutes the hosts scored with a strike from distance from McGuffie which flew into the net. Both teams struggled to do anything for the rest for the rest of the half.

Second half started and it did not get any better, but with Anderson and Mullen coming on for Robertson and sow with 30 minutes to go Dundee finally sprung into life and minutes later Jason Cummings scored to level the game. The striker stayed calm after Mullen had flicked the ball on from a Hamilton goal kick and smashed the ball past McAdam to level the game. 

But four minutes later Morton went ahead again when Colville headed home after a rare break as Dundee were pushing for a winner. Dundee  pushed forward and levelled the game on 80 minutes when a McMullen cross was headed home by Danny Mullen. 

Dundee went for the winner but the closest they came when Anderson's volley was pushed onto the bar by McAdam. A point maybe is not good enough, but the next three games for the club will make or break our season. They face Inverness CT on Tuesday then Hearts and Dunfermline which will be tough.

Dundee 2, Queen of the South 3, Dens Park, Scottish Championship, 20-February-21

Dundee went down 3-2 to Queen of the South at the Kilmac Stadium in a performance featuring too many defensive errors. Queens took the lead with an early penalty and added a second from an unfortunate Jack Hamilton own goal. Jason Cummings pulled a goal back early in the second half but Willie Gibson restored Queens’ two goal lead. Jordan Marshall provided some hope with a late goal, but the Dee couldn’t save the game. 

Dundee will have to get results in the coming weeks or the play-off spot will disappear and midtable would not be a good season for the club. The squad seems good enough but we fail to take advantage of this and always chasing games with poor starts. 

It was good that Jason Cummings got his first goal for the club.

Raith Rovers 3, Dundee 1, Starks Park, Division One, 30th January 2021

Dundee lost 3-1 at Raith on Saturday, they scored after only 5 minutes when new winger Paul McMullan crossed for Osman Sow to score from six yards. Dundee were well on top , but against the run of play Rovers levelled when Ex Dee Benedictus headed home. It was a poor goal to lose as he had a free header inside the six yard box.

Jack Hamilton  had to make a couple of saves to keep the score level at the break. Dundee started the second half  well but after 10 minutes Rovers took the lead when  right back Tumilty, who had been covering in the centre circle. He ran in to take a touch, and let rip from 30 yards, sending a dipping shot flying inside Hamilton’s right hand post.

On the hour mark Kennedy delivered the sort of goal from the left wing that he had been threatening. After skipping inside Elliott he scored with a beautifully flighted curler around Hamilton.

Dundee replaced Paul McMullan with Jason Cummings, and then Shaun Byrne with Danny Mullen. It made no difference. The rest of the game will vanish quickly from the memory as neither side could do anything to worry the goalkeepers. 

Rovers were happy to sit back and just hit on the break . Only bonus for Dundee is young defenders Malachi Fagan-Walcott and Sam Fisher done well on their debuts. 

Next up for the Dark Blues is Inverness Caley Thistle at Dens on Saturday. A must three point now given the closeness of the top six teams.

Transfer News..................................

Declan McDaid has signed for Partick Thistle on loan until the end of the season.

Dundee have signed striker Jason Cummings until the Summer of 2021, Jason has played for a few clubs including Hibernian, Nottingham Forest, Rangers, Peterborough, Luton Town and Shrewsbury Town. I think this is a great signing for the club.

Dundee have signed Malachi Fagan-Walcott on loan until the end of the season. Malachi has played for Spurs first team last season in one of their European games. Mainly he has played for the Under 23 side at White Hart Lane.

Points Dropped...................

I got my wish for Hearts and Dunfermline to drop points today. It just shows how Dundee had missed a great chance to close the gap on Hearts. Hearts lost 3-2 at home to Raith Rovers, with Dunfermline drew at home with Ayr United. 

A tough two games now for the dark blues with Ayr United at Dens on Tuesday, and next Saturday a visit to Raith Rovers who have two games in hand over Dundee.  

Arbroath 1, Dundee 1, Gayfield, Scottish Championship, 22-January-21

Dundee missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Hearts and second placed Dunfermline Athletic. When they drew 1-1 with Arbroath at Gayfield.

Dundee began positively and did all the early attacking. The opening goal after eight minutes was well deserved. Osman Sow tried to flick Jordan Marshall’s cross past Thomas O’Brien. The central defender stuck his arm out, made contact with the ball, and Charlie Adam smashed the penalty past Derek Gaston.

Dundee had most of the first half, and Danny Mullen should have made it 2-0 but hit the bar when really he should have scored. Osman Sow was unlucky with a shot near half-time but Gaston saved well to deny the big Dundee striker.

Second half and for some reason Dundee struggled to get going , they had lost McGhee early on due to injury , then Mullen when off. Early doors second half and Fontaine had to go off injured this seemed to stop Dundee playing flowing football. 

Arbroath came into it and levelled when Little headed home from eight yard, a superb headed goal. Poor for Dundee as it was a free header in the box. Arbroath were the better side until injury time when good play from Adam set up Sow but he was too weak and the Arbroath defence cleared a certain goal.

Two points dropped for the dark blues and here's hoping Hearts and Dunfermline drop points tomorrow. A fair result and Arbroath deserved a point they kept their shape well and went for it in the second half.

Ayr Game Off

The Dundee v Ayr United game was called off by the match Referee, it was over a part of the pitch which was deemed dangerous. It had been passed fit to play by a local Referee at 10:30am after heavy rain overnight on Friday night.

The club will report this to the SPFL and SFA as they asked for a delayed kick-off, but this was refused. 

Dens Park News...................

Charlie Adam has won player of the month in the Scottish Championship. The Dundee captain fully deserves this award.

Dundee will play St Johnstone at home in the Third Round of the Scottish Cup, the date for the tie is still to be confirmed as it's been delayed to a later date likely in February. 

Over the last few weeks Dundee have been busy with key players Jordan McGhee, Christie Elliott , Jordan Marshall, and young goalkeeper Harrison Sharp has all signed contract extensions.

Dundee have signed Paul McMullan on a Pre-Contract the winger has signed a two year deal and may join the dark blues this month if Dundee United decide to let him go early. The winger started at Celtic and has played for Stenhousemuir, St Mirren, Morton and Dunfermline Athletic.

Dundee FC Games Round Up..............................

Dundee 3, Bonnyrigg Rose 2, Dens Park, Scottish Cup 2nd Rd, 9th of January 2021

Dundee beat Bonnyrigg Rose 3-2 after extra time at dens park last Saturday, Bonnyrigg were awarded a dubious penalty award and Currie scored with ease. It took Dundee until the 94th minute to level the game when  Jonathan  Afolabi scored. Into extra time it was another penalty to put the visitors ahead, but Lee Ashcroft levelled the game with a header. Osman Sow then put Dundee ahead in the tie and it proved to be the winner.

Dundee and Dunfermline Athletic served up a six goal thriller at Dens Park on Saturday when they drew 3-3. 

Dundee’s only change from the team that drew in Inverness was Osman Sow starting instead of Alex Jakubiak.

Dundee started well well and Danny Mullen had two good efforts at goal as they pegged the Pars on the back foot. Charlie Adam also had a shot saved from 20 yards.

Dundee opened the scoring when a great flowing move was finished by Charlie Adam who fired a shot from 35 yards which gave the Dunfermline Ath keeper no chance. 

Into the second half and Dundee made it two nil when Osman Sow headed home from 8 yards within the five minutes. The cross came from Charlie Adam. 

Dundee made it three nil on 70 minutes when Liam Fontaine took Charlie Adam’s corner on the volley to score from 12 yards. Adam, who was injured, was then replaced by Max Anderson after an excellent performance.

That should have finished the game but the pars got a lifeline when Watson headed home, with nine minutes to go and McManus was fouled in the box, he scored from the the spot to make it 3-2.

Sadly for Dundee McManus then scored in injury time when he fired home a superb free kick to give Dunfermline Athletic a vital point. 

For Dundee it will feel  like a defeat and maybe too many changes for the team, with Charlie Adam going off injured likely changed the game.

Dundee drew 2-2 with Inverness CT this afternoon with a late goal to level 5 minutes from time. Manager James McPake made one change as Jordan McGhee replacing Max Anderson.

Dundee started well and Alex Jakubiak’s volley from the edge of the area flew narrowly wide. Caley Thistle came close a couple of time but Hamilton saved well from MacGregor's shot. 

Dundee took the lad on 37 minutes when a Charlie Miller corner was headed against the bar by McGhee and Liam Fontaine was able to poke the ball home from 4 yards.

Second half and Dundee had Jack Hamilton to thank as he saved well to deny the home side. Danny Mullen had a great chance but he put his effort over the ball.

But finally the home side levelled when the ball was played into the box it came off a Dundee defender's head fell kindly to Deas who scored at the back post. ICT took the lead three minutes later Caley Thistle were in front. Sutherland headed down for Keatings to turn and shoot past Hamilton from close range.

Dundee battled back and levelled with 8 minutes to go when a  Declan McDaid’s cross from the right was switched first time by Sow into the path of Jordan McGhee to finish off a beautifully worked goal from six yards range.

A point in the end seemed fair on the the report from the game. At least Dunfermline Athletic got beat so the results helped leaders Hearts go further ahead. For Dundee they need to win next week or they will struggle to move up the table in the coming weeks.

Dundee beat Arbroath 1-0 at Dens last Saturday. A goal from Paul McGowan sealed the win for the Dark Blues. It was a decent goal and Dundee should have won the game by more goals. 

It now builds up to the big two games in the next two weeks, a visit to Inverness CT next Saturday, then Dunfermline Athletic  at Dens the following week.

Manager James McPake made four changes for the visit to Easter Road. Jack Hamilton returned in goal, replacing the injured Adam Legzdins. Jonathan Afolabi came back into the starting line-up, while Liam Fontaine and Alex Jakubiak had their first starts for the Dee. Cammy Kerr, Jordan McGhee and Osman Sow moved onto the bench.

In a even first half Dundee played some nice football from midfield but failed to test the Hibs goalkeeper, Jack Hamilton had to make decent saves from Nisbet and Boyle

But just on half-time Hibs took the lead a good turn and pass from Nisbet released Jamie Murphy and he raced clear to score for the home side.

Early in the second half and Dundee were unfortunate not to equalise when Lee Ashcroft backheaded Liam Fontaine’s long throw to the near post. Alex Jakubiak’s flick came back off the crossbar and the Dee striker tucked the ball into the net only to be judged offside, a close decision.

But after that Hibs controlled the game as Dundee struggled to get forward, and only decent defending kept the home side at bay from adding to the score.

Dundee made two substitutions in the second half, sending on Declan McDaid for Max Anderson, then Osman Sow for Jonathan Afolabi. Neither changes affected the pattern of the game and the Hibs saw out the game fairly comfortably with Marciano still not being called upon to make any saves.

A better performance from the dark blues but they only had three shots on target. Hibs done enough to go through to the 1/4 final stage of the Betfred Cup.

 Dundee's poor start to the season continued at Somerset Park on Saturday. Manager James McPake made four changes from the team that lost against Hibs last week. Adam Legzdins came in for his debut, while Lee Ashroft, Max Anderson and Osman Sow returned to the starting eleven. Jack Hamilton, Finlay Robertson and Declan McDaid moved onto the bench and Danny Mullen was unavailable.

Dundee started poorly and went 1-0 down after just 3 minutes, slack marking in the defence and Smith netted for the honest men. Worse was to follow on 16 minutes when Moffat made it 2-0 with another poor goal for Dundee to lose.

Although they came back into the game and the Ayr keeper had to make a couple of good saves to deny Elliott twice and McGowan also had a good effort.

Elliott had a great chace from close in back headed straight to the keeper from two yards out. The keeper saved well to deny Adam and then  Byrne from 12 yards out.

Ayr had a goal disallowed for off-side as the game ended. Another poor result and the defence is struggling, also finding scoring goals at the moment. A big few weeks for the dark blues. We go back to Easter Road on Saturday for the Bedfred Cup. We might get a right hiding if we keep this form up !

Dundee Sign Liam Fontaine.........

 Dundee have signed ex Hibs, Ross County defender Liam Fontaine until the end of the season. Liam started at Fulham and he has played for Bristol City , Kilmarnock and Yeovil Town.

Lianm will wear no 4 and will be in the squad for the vital trip to Ayr this Saturday.

Dundee went down 4-1 to Hibernian at Easter Road in the final group game. Hibs took the lead when Mallan scored with a long range effort. Dundee did hit the bar on their odd chance created.

But with 20 minutes to go they levelled when Christie Elliot scored after a good pass from McGowan. But the defence totally fell apart in a six minute spell with Hibs scoring three times.

At least the club will be unseeded in the draw. But losing so many goals must be a worry for Manager James McPake.

Dundee Sign Adam Legzdins..............

 Dundee have signed Adam Legzdins the goalkeeper has been on trial lately. Adam has played for Burnley for the last three seasons. He has also played for Birmingham, Leyton Orient, Crewe, and Derby County.

Adam has signed until the end of the season and will wear no 13.

Dundee 3, Cove Rangers 0, Dens Park, Betfred Cup Group Game, 10-November-20

Dundee played Cove Rangers in the second last game of the group, Manager James McPake made two changes Jack Hamilton and Max Anderson returned to the starting eleven replacing Calum Ferrie and Jonathan Afolabi.

Dundee got off to a great start and Paul McGowan scored after six minutes with a great finish after delightful build up play from McDaid. The midfielder fired home into the top corner from 15 yards.

After both teams going close Dundee missed a penalty Danny Mullen was fouled in the box, but Charlie Adam's spot kick came back off the inside of the post. Cove were also down to ten men as Yule stopped a goalscoring opportunity and was shown a red card.

Into the second half and ten minutes in the visitors were down to nine men after Masson was sent off after a foul on Marshall. Moments later McGowan missed a sitter from eight yards shooting over the bar.

Dundee were making hard work of finishing the game and it took to the last tens minutes for them to do so.

Firstly Danny Mullen took a pass from Adam with his back to goal, about six yards out. He showed some great skill to turn quickly and slipped the ball past McKenzie.

Dundee came  forward looking for another goal, and it arrived after a shot was McDaid was saved by McKenzie, with the loose ball heading to Mullen for a tap into the empty net. Ross Graham pushed him over, giving the Dee a second penalty. Charlie Adam made no mistake with this one and  smashed a low shot inside the post.

A comfy win for the dark blues and they lead the group, they face Hibernian on Sunday and a draw will win the group  on goal difference !. I think both teams will go through with the 9 points gained already

Graham Dorrans Departs Dens Park.......

Graham Dorrans has left Dens Park after getting a offer too good to refuse. The move will be one to Western Sydney Wanderers FC in Australia. Graham has signed a two year deal. Graham played 27 games and scored two goals for the club.

The club thanked Graham for his efforts for his time at Dens Park. 

I hope that the younger players at Dens  have learned from playing with a great professional and if so that's great for the club. It comes as no surprize that Graham has moved on.

Manager James McPake can now look to strengthen the squad ahead of the next league game.

Alloa Athletic 3, Dundee 3, Indorill Stadium, Scottish Championship, 6th November 2020

Dundee fought back to earn a draw at Alloa last night. Manager James McPake made two changes from the draw against Raith Rovers. Christie Elliott and Paul McGowan started instead of Lee Ashcroft and Graham Dorrans, who were unavailable. 

The home side scored after 30 minutes after sloppy dundee defending failing to mark Thomson at the back post. Dundee struggled in the fog and Alloa looked better organised all over the pitch.

Dundee levelled the game within a minute of the second half with a very nice strike from Declan McDaid scoring from the edge of the box.

Alloa took the lead again soon after again poor play in the box and Trouten  netted  from close range. Soon after Trouten got his second after the Dundee keeper let the ball go under his body.

Dundee pulled one back after a superb Charlie Adam free kick came back off the post and went in via Cammy Kerr's bum. With just four minutes to go it was 3-3 when Charlie Adam scored from the spot after the referee gave a penalty for hand ball. It looked a bit harsh on the Alloa defender.

It ended 3-3 with maybe another 5 minutes might have won the game. I missed watching the game live due to work , but reports and what l have seen Dundee got out of jail.
