Dundee 1, Queen of the South 1, Dens Park, Scottish Cup 4th Rd, 19-Jan-19
Dundee made five changes for the visit of Queen of the South in the Sottish Cup 1/4 final tie at Dens Park.k. Seny Dieng and Craig Curran made their debuts while Genserix Kusunga, Ryan Innis and Roarie Deacon all returned. They replaced Jack Hamilton Darren O’Dea, Glen Kamara, Andy Boyle and Calvin Miller – the last two having returned to their parent clubs at the end of their loans.
Dundee struggled from the start and it was QoS who were on top for more the first half. Dundee looked slow in defence and midfield. Maybe the winter break has not helped the players.
New keeper Seny Dieng kept out a header by Stephen Dobbie who had found space on the edge of the six yard box. Dundee’s best early moment came when when Nathan Ralph showed lovely footwork to get away from two defenders, but Kenny Miller’s shot from the cross was blocked.
The Doonhamers continued to have an edge over the Dee and deservedly took the lead after 27 minutes. Lyndon Dykes drove through the middle and set up Josh Todd to cross. His low ball across goal was perfect and Dobbie scored with ease. A poor goal to lose and it did not help the mood of the fans.
Dundee continued to struggle taking too long to move the ball forward, and with the Referee checking his watch Dundee levelled the game. Jesse Curran played a one two with McGowan and moved across the edge of the box to fire home from 16 yards to the the relieve of the Dundee fans.
Second half and Andy Dales came on for is debut, replacing Roarie Deacon who made little impact in the first half. The Doonhamers were the more dangerous side and went close twice around the hour mark. Josh Todd led a break and set up Dobbie, whose fierce shot was tipped over the bar by Dieng. Only a minute later Queens passed up a great double chance. Todd ran clear, but Dieng spread himself to block. Somehow Cammy Kerr managed to divert Todd’s follow up shot wide of the goal.
Andrew Nelson was the fourth player to make his debut when he came on for Craig Curran midway through the half. Within a minute he had Queens keeper Martin in trouble as they raced each other for a short back pass. The goalie got there first but smashed his clearance against Nelson and was relieved that the ball bounced wide of his goal.
The game ended 1-1 and I'm pretty glad that we are still in the cup. Queen of the South were much the better side and deserved to win.
The positives for Dundee is that keeper Seng Dieng had a good debut he looks pretty good and will offer competition to Jack Hamilton and Elliot Parish. Striker Andrew Nelson looks like he has pace and hopefully Himself and Andy Dales will settle quickly. We are weak in midfield and central defence. Let's hope Jim McIntyre can bring in a few more players before the transfer window shuts.

Dundee Sign Dales and Nelson....
Dundee have signed Andrew Nelson from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee. Striker Andrew is a product of Sunderland’s youth academy and has spent four spells out on loan.
After spells with Hartlepool United and Harrogate Town he joined Falkirk in the SPFL Championship last season.Andrew scored 4 goals in 15 appearances as he helped Falkirk to safety last season. The 21 year old joined Darlington in the National League North on a short term loan deal last month. While with Darlington he scored 6 goals in 5 games.
Andrew has signed a two and a half year deal and will wear number 21 this season.
Dundee have signed winger Andy Dales on loan from Scunthorpe United until the end of the season. A product of Derby County’s Academy, Andy moved to Mickleover Sports in 2014 and earned his way back into league football with a hugely successful spell at the Derbyshire club.
In his final season he scored 23 goals and was selected in the Evostik NPL Premier Division team of the year. He moved to Scunthorpe in the summer and has featured 25 times this season. He scored the winner on his debut against Coventry and also netted against Mansfield in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Transfer Window Updates.....and Club News....
He made his professional debut at the age of 17 when on loan at FC Grenchen in Switzerland from Grasshoppers. Send then moved on to MSV Duisburg before joining QPR in 2016.
A regular for the London club’s under 23 side he had enjoyed loan spells with Whitehawk and Hampton and Richmond Borough prior to moving out on loan in the summer to Stevenage.
Seny joins the club on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The 34 year old played under manager Jim McIntyre at Ross County. Davies was captain for the club as they lifted the League Cup in 2016. Andrew started his career with Middlesbrough where he gained experience in the English Premier League and the UEFA Cup. He spent time out on loan with QPR, Derby County and Southampton before making a permanent move to The Saints.
A move to Stoke City followed before loan spells including Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.
In 2012, he moved to Bradford City where he had spent time on loan. He played over 100 times over a three year period at Valley Parade and moved north to Ross County in 2015.
He was made captain in the Highlands as he spent three years with County. Last summer he joined Hartlepool where he has played 13 times this season before leaving recently. Andrew will wear squad number 14 this season.
Dundee have confirmed that Lewis Spence has left the club by mutual consent. Lewis signed for the club in the summer of 2017 and played a total of 37 times over the last season and a half.
Young Striker Matty Henvey has today joined Cowdenbeath on a loan deal. It will be to the end of the season.
Martin Woods has today signed a contract extension which has seen him commit to the club until the end of the season.
He turned out for Rochdale, Limerick and Nuneaton being moving north to County. Most recently he has been with Dundee United after signing in the summer for the Tannadice side. Craig has signed a deal until 2021.
Rangers have today been in contact with the club to confirm that midfielder Glen Kamara has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Ibrox side. Going by reports it's a four year deal. Glen has done well for the club and I wish him all the best. Pity he never went to a club in England!
Kyle Gourlay has extended his loan with Elgin City until the summer.
Marcus Haber has left the club by mutual consent. The striker signed for the club in 2016 and spent the first half of the 2018/19 season on loan with Championship side Falkirk.
Midfielder Grant Nelson who signed for the club on a short term deal in October, as part of the Reserve squad, has also left the club at the end of his contract.
Dundee on loan players Andy Boyle, Calvin Miller and Adil Nabi have left the club.
Andy and Calvin will return to their parent clubs when the transfer window opens while Adil who is out of contract in January will not be offered a new contract.

Manager Jim McIntyre made one change from the team that drew with Livingston on Boxing Day. Martin Woods returning in the place of Benjamin Källman who was on the bench.
St Johnstone scored in the first minute a very poor goal to lose Tanser had space and time and his chip cross left Jack Hamilton helpless. After this St Johnstone were well on top and Dundee took ages to get into the game. In the last ten minutes of the half Jesse Curran had a shot saved by the saints keeper.
As half-time approached Calvin Miller had a shot which went across the goal and wide of the far post.
Glen Kamara was replaced at half time by Benjamin Källman as Dundee turned to a straightforward 4-4-2. Dundee started the second half but could not keep the ball. St Johnstone were in total control and they forced Dundee keeper Jack Hamilton to make some good saves.
On 58 minutes the game was finished as Liam Craig got the second goal the visitors deserved, they played a short corner and Watt flicked his header on for Craig who smashed his shot home a the far post.
Benjamin Källman had a header saved by Clarke which was Dundee's only chance near the end.
A poor performance from Dundee and hopefully they can change some of the players in the transfer window. They need to freshen up the squad and move on some of the dead wood.
It was too easy for St Johnstone and they fully deserved the win it could have been more than 2-0.

Dundee and Livingston served up a goalless draw in the Boxing Day fixture at Dens Park. Chances were hard to come by and both teams went closest with shots from distance when Nathan Ralph struck the crossbar for Dundee and Steven Lawless did the same for Livingston.

Celtic proved too strong for Dundee and ran up a 3-0 win over the Dark Blues at Parkhead. Dundee held out till shortly before half time, but Michael Johnston scored on either side of half time and Filip Benkovic added a third in the middle of the second half. The Dark Blues worked hard, but couldn’t cope with a Celtic side that found top form, especially in the second half.

Dundee went down to a heavy 5-1 defeat against Aberdeen at Pittodrie. Sam Cosgrove scored twice before half time and Andy Considine made it three early in the second half. After Connor McLennan made it four, Calvin Miller pulled a goal back for the Dee before Considine completed the scoring with his second.

Kilmarnock 3, Dundee 1, Rugby Park, Ladbrokes Premiership, 15-December-18
Dundee lost 3-1 at Kilmarnock on Saturday. Dundee brought Darren O’Dea back to replace the suspended Nathan Ralph, but playing in central defence with Andy Boyle shifting to left back.
Going by reports it was a even first half with Dundee having a few chances, Different story in the second half as soon as Kilmarnock scored it was the home side which took control of the game. They went into a three goal lead and Kenny Miller got Dundee's goal in injury time.
The only bonus was that St Mirren lost 2-1 at home to Aberdeen so we remain second bottom. Next up is Aberdeen away on Tuesday night hopefully they get something out of the game.

Dundee took the lead in remarkably simple fashion after eight minutes with a goal that prompted a furious inquest in the Rangers defence. The centre backs and keeper Allan McGregor all hesitated over a long ball. Kenny Miller didn’t hang around and nipped in to stab home his sixth goal in four games, leaving the embarrassed visitors to argue about whose fault it was.
The game was going nicely for the Dee but everything changed on 18 minutes. Nathan Ralph dived in to foul Daniel Candeias a couple of feet outside the penalty area as the Rangers winger was racing for goal. Referee Mr Muir controversially pulled out his red card for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity, even though Andy Boyle seemed to be covering. Andy Halliday completed the punishment by rifling the free kick into Hamilton’s top right corner.
Dundee were left to defend more now but they did well to attack Rangers and were unlucky a few times, Rangers did have a goal ruled offside. To be fair it looked good but we will take all the breaks going our way.
Jack Hamilton made a few vital saves to keep the score level. The keeper took all his crosses well , and it was good to see his confident back up after a tough start to his Dundee career.
Kenny Miller was often left isolated up front, but he never stopped running and offered much needed help to the midfield. When he was replaced by Benjamin Källman for the last 15 minutes he had given his all and the supporters recognised that as they applauded him off the park.
It was enough to lift Dundee off the bottom of the league on goal difference from St Mirren.

Dundee started well and pushed Hamilton back, the players were really up for the battle. Hamilton had a half chance but their shot never troubled Jack Hamilton in the Dundee goal. Dundee took the lead on 26 minutes when the Accies failed to clear and Kamara picked up the loose ball and beat two men and passed to Kenny Miller who twisted to fire a shot high into the net for a superb goal.
It lifted Dundee and for the rest of the half they played some good football.
Second half and again Dundee started well and five minutes into the second half Dundee got the vital second goal that gave them some breathing space, allowing the fans to relax and get right behind the team. A Kenny Miller pass sent Martin Woods into the penalty area. He tried to set up McGowan but his effort was blocked. Tshiembe’s clearance went only as far as Kenny Miller, who took a touch and curled a scoring shot round Mucha from 25 yards.
The third goal arrive on 67 minutes when after a great run from Jesse Curran whose shot found the net via a deflection from a Accies defender to put Dundee firmly in control.
Goal number four arrived 10 minutes from full time. A Dundee attack had Hamilton in complete disarray and Kenny Miller made space for himself, again 25 yards out. The Dee skipper served up a reprise of his second goal, bending his low shot confidently into the same corner.
With the points secure for the Dark Blues and a richly deserved hat trick in the bag, Kenny Miller was withdrawn to a standing ovation.
Near the end Jack Hamilton made a great save from a Rakesh Bingham header. The game ended to send the Dundee fans home happy and it will give everyone at the club a big lift.

Dundee Manager Jim McIntyre made one change from the team that faced St Mirren two weeks ago. Midfielder Paul McGowan replaced the injured Benjamin Källman.
Dundee got off to dreadful starts as Hibs scored in the first 40 secs, Calvin Miller lost the ball and Boyle passed to Horgan whose cross was head past his own keeper by defender Genseric Kusunga. Dundee did recover quickly and they matched the home side with some neat football.
Kenny Miller was unlucky when his header was well saved by Hibs keeper Adam Bogdan. Hibs had chances as well but good defending kept the home side out. But on 30 minutes it was 2-0 and it was against the run of place. From a Stevie Mallan free kick from the right to the far post and Ryan Porteous powered his header past Hamilton.

Dundee 1, St Mirren 1, Dens Park, Ladbrokes Premiership, 10-November-18
Dundee started the game really well and attacked The Paisley Buddies with pace and power. Kenny Miller had a shot at goal but it as off target. St Mirren had a couple of efforts but nothing to worry the Dee defence. Then Källman saw a powerful header from Jesse Curran’s cross whistle past the post and Nathan Ralph’s fierce low drive from 22 yards was turned away well by Samson at full stretch.
But against the run of play St Mirren was awarded a penalty which looked soft, up stepped Jackson to score with some help from the cross bar. Dundee came back quickly and levelled the game when Källman pounced on an error by Ryan Edwards to drive towards the penalty area. His excellent low pass to the far post allowed Kenny Miller to score his first goal for Dundee.
This was the half time score with Dundee playing some good stuff.
Second half and Dundee took the game to their visitors but most of the time they could not make the clear cut chance that was needed to get the vital second goal. St Mirren weathered the storm and the game went a bit flat.
Adil Nabi replaced Calvin Miller, and then the hard working strikers, Benjamin Källman and Kenny Miller made way for Sofien Moussa and Paul McGowan.
As time slipped away from the dark blues they had to settle for a point, we likely deserved the three points ...but at least it was a decent performance and the shape of the team looked a lot better.
I thought Ralph and Källman had their best games so far for the club, and next up is the visit to Easter Road on the 24th of November.

News From Dens Park.....
It was good to see Ex-Player Dusan Vrto back at Dens Park last week at the Celtic game, Dusan also done the half-time draw and was in town for the Over 50's Dark Blues where he was a special guest.
Martin Woods has signed a short term deal with the club until January, Martin played for Partick Thistle, Ross County, and in England with Sunderland, Rotherham United and most notably Doncaster Rovers where he made over 100 appearances.
Jimmy Boyle has been appointed as Assistant Manager. Jimmy has been with the club since joining as Head of Youth Development in 2016. During that period he has overseen the Academy while also managing the Development side and helping out with the first team.
He has experience of being a number one having been in charge of Airdrieonians for three years between 2010 and 2013 where he guided them to promotion to the 1st Division.

Got my usual train through to Motherwell arriving in plenty time to have breakfast and meet up with Paul, then slightly later with George, Calum and Ben. My son Andrew made the game as well his second visit to Fir Park his first one was a 5-1 win for the Dark Blues !
Manager Jim McIntyre made three changes. Calvin Miller, Andy Boyle and Sofien Moussa all started, in the places of Roarie Deacon, Ryan Inniss and and Benjamin Källman. Motherwell were unchanged.
Both team attacked from the start and Moussa was inches away from giving Dundee the lead, at the other end Hamilton saved well from a effort from Bigirimana. Calvin Miller put in two dangerous crosses with Darren O'Dea hitting the bar with the Motherwell defence managed to clear their lines in time.
That was all the chances in the first half with Dundee having a lot of the ball, but failing to trouble the Well back four.
Second half and Motherwell came out attacking Dundee they had a penalty claim when Main went down in the box but Ref Robertson waved play on. Minutes later and O'Dea stopped a certain goal getting in the way to block and Hamilton dived on the ball just on the goal line.
Dundee lost O’Dea with a head knock after 58 minutes and Ryan Inniss replaced him. Gradually Dundee played their way back into the game after riding out the storm. Moussa had another penalty claim following great play when Calvin Miller burst into the penalty area.
As the match was starting to open up with either side looking like they could win David Turnbull settled the match with a stunning goal after 68 minutes. Picking the ball up in midfield he unleashed a ferocious rising shot into the top corner from 35 yards.
Dundee tried hard to get back into the game but they lacked the final ball into the box to cause Motherwell any real danger.

Time ran out on the Dark Blues who might have taken a point. You can't fault the effort from the players , but they lack a lot in the final third of the pitch.

Dundee 0, Celtic 5, Dens Park, Ladbrokes Premiership, 31-October-18
Dundee lost 5-0 to Champions Celtic at Dens Dens last Wednesday, sadly the result was in no doubt after Celtic got their first goal after 19 minutes. The second a penalty did look soft but it was 4-0 at half-time.
Second half and Celtic scored the 5th on 48 minutes, and it could have been a lot more on a bad night for the Dee. The gulf was all to see and many Dundee fans were away home at 3-0. I stayed until the 86th minute and only left to make sure I got my lift home okay.
