Dundee 1 Ayr United 1, Dens Park, First Division, 13-August-2011

Dundee had to settle for a 1-1 draw on Saturday against new promoted Ayr United. There was a starting place for Nicky Riley, and Savo Milne started for the first time in the league.

Ayr started well and scored after 14 minutes when Moffat headed home with a free header after the Dundee defence looked flat footed. Dundee were knocking the ball about well and looked good coming forward, and forced a few corners where Ayr defended well.  Then Nicky Riley had a great chance when put through but he shot straight at the keeper and the chance was gone. Jamie McCluskey was causing all kinds of problems for Ayr's defence and it was no surprise when his shot came back of the bar Jake Hyde on on hand to tap in to level the score with 30 minutes gone.

Second half and Dundee did push Ayr back a bit, but the good balls into the box were wasted. McIntosh came on for Hyde as Dundee looked for the winning goal and Leighton should have scored but the Ayr keeper made a fine save to tip his shot onto the bar. Ayr did have have chances too, but lucky for us Rab Douglas made a couple of good saves.

So a draw in the end is not too bad, 19 months since we last lost at Dens in the League. I thought we played well first half but lack a bit of height and strength in the midfield area. Next up is Livingston away which will be a test as they have been scoring goals.

Falkirk 1 Dundee 0, New Brockville, Ramsden Cup, 09/August/11

Falkirk beat Dundee 1-0 in this Ramsden Cup tie thanks to a El Alagui goal on 43 minutes. The big striker slotted home Craig Sibbald's cross inside the six yard box. Dundee put a lot of effort in but could not find a goal with chances they created.

Dundee: Douglas, Irvine, McKeown, Weston, Lockwood, Riley, McGregor (Rennie 76), O'Donnell, Conroy (Webster 76), Hyde, McCluskey. Subs Not Used: Gibson, Benedictis, McIntosh.

Partick Thistle 0 Dundee 1, Firhill Stadium, First Division, Saturday 6th August 2011

Dundee took the 3 points in a smash and grab act at Firhill yesterday, thanks to a late penalty from Matt Lockwood. First game of the season is always hard and so it proved with Dundee struggling to create chance in the Jags box.

Team wise Dundee started with Hyde and McIntosh after a thigh injury ruled out Savo Milne. Jamie McCluskey started with Nicky Riley finding a place on the bench along with with Kyle Benedictus who is unlucky after playing well in preseason.

Partick Thistle started well and were attacking at every opportunity, thankfully they did not trouble Rab Douglas much in the Dundee goal, apart from a free header but David Rowson put it over the bar. We looked pretty solid at the back but the strikers were struggling to hold the ball to bring in the midfield.

Second half and no changes to the side again the Jags looked dangerous and Douglas had to look sharp on a few occasions. With time running out Nicky Riley replaced McIntosh and at last we looked better going forward with O'Donnell unlucky with a shot which went straight to keeper Fox. But with minutes left a good tackle from Irvine send Riley clear wide out he lobbed the ball over Archibald and went down on which Referee Conroy pointed to the spot. Up stepped Matt Lockwood to send Fox the wrong way to score and seal the three points for the Dark Blues, and to send the Dundee fans wild. There was a last late chance for Partick but Rab Douglas saved well after good play from the defence.

A bit tough on Partick today with a draw being fair enough, but we will take the 3 points anytime. I thought the defence played well today with the midfield and strikers struggling to link up. Nicky Riley did make a difference when he came on. My Mom today goes to Rhys Weston who looked back to his best and took the roll of captain in his stride.

Aberdeen Away Next In League Cup Draw

Dundee will play Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the 2nd Round of the Scottish Communities League Cup, the game will be played on the 23rd or 24th of August.

Dumbarton 0 Dundee 4, League Cup, 30-July-11

Dundee won 4-0 at Dumbarton on Saturday in the League Cup. By reports a very good second half performance with goals from Savo Milne (2), Jamie McCluskey and a late penalty from Matt Lockwood. The highlights l seen on DFC TV showed the the Sons had chances as well and had shouts for a penalty which might have been given on another day.

Dundee will play Falkirk away in the next round of the Ramsden Cup. The game will be played on Tuesday 9th of August.

Graham Bayne is set to be fit for the League Cup tie at Dumbarton on Saturday.

Arbroath 1 Dundee 2, Ramsden Cup, Gayfield, 23rd July 2011

Dundee overcame Arbroath 2-1 in the Ramsden Cup after extra time on Saturday. It was a fine sunny day at Gayfield. Dundee started with Hyde and Milne up front, with Jamie McCluskey making his debut after signing on Friday.

Arbroath should have scored early on when a slip up from Weston let Doris get to the bye line he then set up Swankie but he somehow hit the post when he should have opened the scoring. Dundee did have chance in the first half as well but missed the cutting edge upfront. 

Second half and play was much the same McCluskey was unlucky when he forced a fine save from the Arbroath keeper who tipped his long range effort onto the bar. But it was Arbroath who scored after 77 minutes when a Doris cross was headed home by sub Elfverson. Luckily Dundee levelled two minutes later when a fierce shot from O'Donnell hit the bar and Savo Milne was on hand to head home.

Both teams had chance to win it in normal time, but 30 minutes extra time loomed. Dundee pushed forward and got what proved to be the winner when Conroy's corner was headed home strongly by O'Donnell. Dundee took control after that and sealed their place in the next round.

The new signings all done well and it will take time for them to gel. I will miss the next game at Dumbarton on Saturday due to work.

Neil McGregor Signs



As expected Neil McGregor has signed for Dundee. The defender can play in midfield as well and will add some needed cover to the squad. Welcome to Dens Neil.

Manager Barry Smith is waiting on word on another signing this time a loan deal but no more details for now.

Dundee are set to sign Neil McGregor on a one year deal, and one other player could  be added to the squad. Neil played for Clyde and Dunfermline Ath last season.

East Fife Win The Gilvenbank Cup

East Fife 1 Dundee 0, Gilvenbank Cup Final, New Bayview, 17-July-11

East Fife won their own Tournament beating Dundee 1-0 at New Bayview this afternoon. A goal from Kevin McKinlay on 18 minutes sealed a win for the men from Methil.

Team wise for Dundee John Gibson replaced Rab Douglas in goals, Trialist Neil McGregor played again along with a unnamed winger. Young Jamie Reid played his first full senior game. Barry Smith played the full 90 minutes in midfield.

So well done East Fife for a very well organised tournament, in the other game Raith Rovers and Southend United drew 0-0.

Dundee Seal Place In Final..................

Dundee 2 Southend Und 0, The Gilvenbank Tourney, New Bayview, 16/July/2011

Dundee played Southend after hosts East Fife beat local rivals Raith Rovers 7-6 on penalties. Dundee had three trialist in their lineup, including Ewan Moyes, Neil McGregor and a mystery winger. Rhys Weston returns as captain after his foot injury which is a big bonus.

Dundee score after 10 minutes Jake Hyde gets to the bye line and his cross was a tap in for Graham Webster to score his first goal for the club. Both teams have chances but it's 1-0 Dundee at half time.

Dundee get the second half underway and both teams have chances with Southend hitting the post and forcing Rab Douglas into a few saves. Dundee had chances as well and good defending kept them out. After a good run from Kyle Benedictus he laid the ball on to Hyde who dummied and Graham Bayne curled the ball home to seal Dundee's place in the final tomorrow against hosts East Fife.

By reports all the trialist's  played well. So a good first day for the Dark Blues.

Dundee beat Turriff United by 3 goals to nil on Thursday night with goals from  Matt Lockwood(Pen) 54, Savo Milne 65 and Leighton McIntosh 88.

Formartine United 1 Dundee 5, Saturday 9th July 2011
Dundee beat  Formartine United 5-1 with goals from Savo Milne, Jake Hyde(2), and Ross Chisholm in the first half. Ross Campbell scored for the home side to make the half time score 4-1. Leighton McIntosh scored in the last minute to get the final goal.


Dundee 0 St Johnstone 2, Dens Park, 13th July 2011
Dundee lost 2-0 at Dens last night with a much weaker side out they struggled a wee bit to cause the St Johnsone side much problems. Trialists Neil McGregor played the full 90 minutes with Ewan Moyes played the second half. Stevie May and Dave Mackay got the saints goals.
