Dundee 0, Dunfermline Ath 1, Dens Park, Betfred Cup, 22-July-18

Dundee entertained Dunfermline Ath in their second Betfred Cup game on Sunday, after winning last week at Stirling they looked to get the three points. Dundee made one change Kharl Madianga coming in for the injured Glen Kamara.

Dunfermline Ath got off to the perfect start scoring after only two minutes, a neat passing movement leading to Williams crossing for Longridge to head home from six yard. Sadly it set the tone for the first half, where The Pars looked solid at the back. Dundee struggled to get any passing going and the defence looked very shaky. 

Things were not helped when Moussa had to go off injured he was replaced by Matty Henvey. Soon after Hamilton saved Dundee with a couple of good stops. Nathan Ralph had to go off injured at well being replaced by Jesse Currant, Cammy Kerr moved to left back. The first half ended with Dundee struggling and it was hoped that Neil McCann could change something at half-time. 

Second half and Dundee finally played some football, but missed the cutting edge to trouble the Pars defence, Mendy was unlucky with a header which flew high over the bar, and then after a clever run his chip just failed to find the goal. A minute later Dundee went close when Elton Ngwatala smashed a shot off the bar, from the follow up Curran crossed and Henvey missed his kick right in front of goal. 

Dundee also lost Kusanga to injury after 67 minutes, Stephen Calker came on.Dundee were again unlucky when Mendy's chip was tipped over by the Dundfermline keeper. In the later stages Dundee never created any chances and the Pars ran out comfy winners.

Overall today Dundee were not good enough and the next two games are must wins, Perterhead (A) on Wednesday and Brechin City at Dens next week.

Stirling Albion 0, Dundee 4, Forthbank Stadium, Betfred Cup Group D, 14-July-18

Dundee got off to a flying start in the group winning 4-0 at Stirling Albion. Dundee gave debuts to four of the new players; Jack Hamilton, Nathan Ralph, Elton Ngwatala and Jean Alassane Mendy, New Signing Kharl Madianga was on the bench. Genseric Kusunga was captain for the first time.

Dundee going by reports settled well and were played some neat pressing football. Sofien Moussa scored on 38 minutes when he  took a long pass from Kusunga and fired the ball home to give Dundee a vital half time lead.

Dundee had Jack Hamilton to thank after the keeper saved well from a Jason Marr header. In the following 12 minutes Dundee wrapped up the game with three goals. The first from a Sofien Moussa header from six yards after a fine cross from Wighton after good midfield play from McGowan and Kamara.

Moussa then set up Jean Alassane Mendy who scored from 16 yards to put Dundee in total control.

The Fourth goal was scored by Craig Wighton who cooly placed the ball in the corner of the net from 12 yards out, after a fine pass from Kamara. 

Dundee gave Jesse Curran, Kharl Madianga and Matt Henvey all a run out replacing Cammy Kerr, Elton Ngwatala, and Sofien Moussa.

Fine win for the dark blues and in the other game played Saturday Brechin and Peterhead drew 0-0.

Randy Heads Home............

Randy Wolters has left the club and has signed for Dutch side N.E.C. The winger/striker made 16 appearances for Dundee. All the best for the future Randy pity it did not work out at dens.

Quick Round-Up

Faissal El Bakhtaoui has joined Dunfermline Athletic on loan. Faissal joined the club in 2016 and played over 50 games for the club, scoring 8 times. The attacker joins the SPFL Championship on loan until the end of the season. 

Dundee lost 3-2  to SC Farense at their training camp in Portugal. Jack Lambert and Trialist got the Dundee goals. 

Sad to hear that Alan Gilzean passed away after a short illness, he was a true Dundee legend and we will likely never see the like  again. Alan scored 169 goals in 190 games. He was part of the title winning side in season 1961-62. He was top European goal scorer with 9 goals, most goals in a game with 7 against Stirling Albion, 17 hat-tricks. Alan scored 52 goals in Season 1963-64. Alan left Dundee in 1964 for £72,000. 

Dundee lost 4-0 to  Portuguese Premeira Liga side Portimonese at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira. 

Dundee beat Sunderland 2-0 in a closed door friendly. 

Dundee have signed goal keeper Sam Jackson from Millwall. He will play for the Under 18's under James McPake. 

Kerr Waddell has joined Morton on loan, and James Vincent has joined Dunfermline on loan. 

Dundee beat Cowdenbeath 1-0 at Central Park, Matty Henvey scored on 72 minutes. Dundee used all 22 players. Dundee drew 1-1 at Brechin City New signing Jean Alassane Mendy scored for the Dee. 

Goalkeepers Kyle Gourlay and Calum Ferrie have today completed deals to go out on 6 month loans.Kyle who spent time on loan with Airdrie and Clyde has joined Elgin City for the first part of the 2018/19 season. Calum who made his debut for the first team last season has joined Stirling Albion until the end of the year. 

Jesse Curran has signed a one year contract which is great news. Matty Henvey has also signed for another year both players will push for first team places next season.

Dundee have signed Striker Jean Alassane Mendy on a two year deal. He has played most of his football in Norway.




Dundee will play St Mirren on the opening game of Season 2018-19. 

Holiday ect

Due to my Holiday in San Francisco I'm a bit behind so will do a quick catch up. It's been a quick summer as the real season starts on Saturday when Dundee travel to Stirling Albion in the Betfred Cup.

Nathan Signs...........

Dundee have signed Nathan Ralph on a two year deal. English left back Nathan signs after leaving National League side Woking.

 He was with both Ipswich Town and Peterborough United as a youth player before moving to join Yeovil Town where he made 35 appearances for the League One side. 

Nathan then moved to Woking after a loan spell with Aldershot Town. This will be Dundee's fourth signing of the season.

Jack Hamilton Signs.......

Dundee have completed the signing of goalkeeper Jack Hamilton from Hearts the fee is reported to be around £100,000. Jack has signed a three year deal with the club.

Jack played 63 games for Hearts after signing for them when he was just 14 years old. A great signing for the club and will be interesting who takes the No 1 spot next season.

News From Dens Park

In Group D Dundee will face Dunfermline, Stirling Albion, Brechin City and Peterhead in The Betfred Cup which was drawn live on BT2.

Mark O'Hara has left the club to join Peterborough United on a three year deal, Dundee will get a undisclosed training compensation package.

On May 20th Dundee Football Club was 125 years old The oldest and only club in the city of Dundee!

Dundee FC have signed Kharl Madianga subject to international clearance. The French midfielder played in Bulgaria with FC Lokomotiv GO.

Dundee FC are delighted to announce that Elton Ngwatala has today become the first signing of the summer. The 24 year old midfielder has spent three seasons with Kidderminster Harriers. He has signed a two year deal with the club.

Dundee 0, Partick Thistle 1, Dens Park, Ladbrokes Premiership, 12-May-18

For the final games Dundee made four changes to the team which played at Ross County, in came Keeper Calum Ferrie, Defenders Daniel Jefferies and Genseric Kusunga and Roarie Deacon. Darren O'Dea was suspended. Elliot Parish and Randy Wolters moved to the bench. Steven Caulker was injured.

Partick started well and Ferrie made a fine save early on. The young keeper looked confident in commanding his box and was also quick to shout to his defenders. Dundee struggled to create anything and it seemed end of season fare. 

Paul McGowan was unlucky after a fine run and the Thistle keeper done well to save his shot. But 10 minutes into the second half and Paul had to go off injured. Randy Wolters came on with Wighton moving into a more central position.

Dundee lost their way a wee bit going forward was much slower and less direct. Partick then got the vital goal to leap ahead of Ross County who were winning at Perth. Dundee saw the game out with very little in chances. They never seem to win the last game of the season to send The Dundee fans home early. It was a good enough crowd who turned up today and deserve just a wee bit more.

On this day in Season 1983-84 Dundee beat St Johnstone 2-0, both goals were scored by Iain Ferguson.

Ross County 0, Dundee 1, Gobal Energy Stadium, Ladbrokes Premiership, 8-May-18

Dundee made sure of Premier League football next season with a fine 1-0 win at Ross County. Simon Murray getting the vital goal in the second half with a looping header from a Wolters cross. Dundee defended well and hit County on the break. It also means Dundee will finish 9th with Hamilton also safe from the play off spot. It looks like Partick Thistle as Ross County need to win at Perth and the Jags to lose at Dens this Saturday.

On this day in Season 1964-65 Dundee beat St Johnstone 2-1, goals from Cameron and Penman. It was in the Summer Cup.

Dundee 1, Hamilton Accies 0, Dens Park, Ladbroked Premiership, 05-May-18

Neil McCann had to make two changes to the team with Sofien Moussa and Genseric Kusuga  being replaced by Roarie Deacon and Darren O'Dea. Both sides started well with some keen tackles going in.

Mark O'Hara was then injured in a head knock and it took several minutes to get the young midfielder back up and playing. But Dundee took the lead on 18 minutes with a sweetly taken goal good wing play from Wighton and his cut back was just behind Kevin Holt but he done superbly to control the ball and smash a unstoppable shot past the stunned Accies keeper. 

The Dundee fans were up for this game and it a great atmosphere inside Dens for a change. Dundee kept at the task working hard and playing with skill and smart one touch football. Hamilton were pushed back and nearly went two down when Caulker headed over. Then McGowan tried his luck from 25 yards out which the keeper saved.

Second half and Dundee replaced O'Hara with Lewis Spence. The Accies started well and Parish had to push a good effort away for a corner. Dundee still hit on the break and Cammy Kerr was unlucky after a fine run and shot was well saved by the Accies keeper.

After 74 minutes Dan Jefferies came on for Roarie Deacon who had tired and fresh legs were needed. Dundee could not fine the clear cut chance which would finish the game Kevin Holt went close a shot. 

But on 86 minutes Hamilton took a quick throw in and Dan Jefferies was late with a tackle and it was a penalty. Up stepped Dougie Imrie and his spot kick was superbly saved by Elliot Parish to the sheer delight of the Dundee fans. It was a match winning save and it proved that way in injury time Craig Wighton was replaced by Cedwyn Scott. 

Time ran out and this was a massive three points for the club, it also means Dundee can't finish bottom and need a point to make sure of no play off spot. But really  their goal difference should be enough. 

I was really pleased with the whole team and it was great to see Cammy Kerr back to his best and Craig Wighton looks so good now and a real talent for next season. After the game it was revealed that Mark O'Hara had lost three teeth so it was magnificent he played onto half time.

On this day in Season 19944-45 Dundee beat Raith Rovers 4-0 at Dens Park. Goals were scored by Turnbull (3), and Smith. That season Ronnie Turnbull scored 39 goals.

Motherwell 2, Dundee 1, Fir Park, Ladbrokes Premiership, 28-April-18

Dundee started the same team against Motherwell which faced St Johnstone last week. But inside a couple of minutes they were faced with a change when Moussa had to go off injured and was replaced by A-Jay Leitch-Smith. 

Dundee had a good early chance when a good run and cross from Murray and Wighton headed wide of the goal. Dundee had a big let off when Motherwell hit the post Parrish was able to save the rebound effort on the line.

Parish done well again later as he pushed a long range drive from Main as The Steelmen looked dangerous on the break. But on 23 minutes Dundee took the lead Caulker headed back across goal and Generisic Kusanga bundled the ball over the line to give Dundee the lead.

However the lead lasted about 3 minutes as Motherwell levelled with a similar goal but Bowman headed home from close range.

At the start of the second half. Dundee were dealt another blow when Genseric Kusunga could not continue and was taken away in a stretcher. Darren O'Dea came on for the dark blues. Motherwell took the lead when Kipre  headed home at the back post. Dundee kept coming forward and Leitch-Smith should have scored but his first touch let him down. 

Dundee really pushed Motherwell back and should have scored on a few occasions and then as time was just about up Caulker headed down to O'Hara who somehow blasted the ball over from 7 feet out.

Not our best midfield display today but the players gave it their all. It was good to see Cammy Kerr having a great game. His forward runs were brilliant to watch.

Dundee Manager Neil McCann made three changes Cammy Kerr, Paul McGowan and Craig Wighton came in for Lewis Spence who was on the bench and Roarie Deacon and Josh Meekings who were out injured. 

Dundee got off to a perfect start scoring inside the first  minutes a Holt free kick was sent goalwards by O'Hara and hit the post went along the line and Sofien Moussa was on hand to tap in to give the Dark Blues the lead. It was just the start the Dundee fans wanted and they got behind the team.

St Johnstone came back strongly and Parish had to make a couple of saves as the Perth Saints looked strong in midfield. As the first half came to a close Dundee came close twice with Wighton and Kamara both had good efforts which just went wide of the goal.

Craig Wighton again was unlucky early in the second half when good play he was denied by the Saints keeper, then he saved well from a Simon Murray pile driver. Saints came close when Miller hit the bar. Moments later Murray was again denied by Clark in the Saints goal this time diving full stretch to push the shot behind the game.

With only five minutes to go Saints scored when MacClean scored from around eight yards out , it a sloppy goal to lose. But three minutes late Dens went wild when Cammy Kerr's high cross was headed home superbly by Sofien Moussa. 

With three minutes stoppage time to go the crowd got  right behind the team to see out the time and seal three massive points for the Dark Blues. It was not a great game to watch but the players all dug in to get the result.

I was pleased for Sofien Moussa who has worked his socks off for the last few games and deserves his goals today. It was also great to see Craig Wighton back after being out injured for nearly a year,  and the young striker had a great game.

On this Day in the  1899-1900 Season Dundee drew 1-1 with Sunderland in a friendly game at Dens Park. McDermott scored for Dundee in front of a 5,000 crowd.
