Dundee Sign Striker Greg Stewart

Dundee have signed Cowdenbeath striker Greg Stewart for next season. The player has agreed a pre-contract with the Dark Blues and will join Paul Hartley’s squad in the summer. Stewart has played 132 times for the Central Park club, scoring 36 goals.

 

It was also confirmed that Carlo Monti has left the club after playing 19 times and scoring 2 goals during his time at Dens Park

Share Of The Spoils At New Douglas Park

Dundee fans came out in big numbers to support the club at Hamilton last Saturday in the vital game between the joint league leaders. The pubs before the game were busy and it was good to see a few well known faces and fellow Dundee supporters.

Team wise Nicky Riley and Kevin McBride came in for Craig Beattie and Adam Cummins with Iain Davidson dropping back to a central defence role. The game started slowly for both sides playing tight football with Riley looking sharp but like Hamilton did not create anything clear chance wise. But with 10 minutes until half-time Dundee took the lead a McDonald free kick came back off the wall and when it was played back in by Dyer Accies failed to clear and McBride headed it down to Martin Boyle who side footed home to send the DFC fans wild with delight. Just minutes later and it could have been two with McDonald put his shot just over the bar.

Second half and Dundee started brightly with two good efforts on goal the second one from Boyle forced the Accies keeper into a fine save as Dundee looked to kill the game. Soon after and Iain Davidson had to go off with a injury it was to prove the turning point as Hamilton took the game to their visitors. With 20 minutes to go Hamilton got level when ex-dee striker Antoine Curier beat Cummins in the air to head home. Both teams then made mistakes as the flowing football had stopped and players made basic mistakes fear off losing the game. Beattie and Conroy came on as Dundee tried to change it, but in the end a draw was fair on the day.

News From Dens Park............

Dundee lost top spot in the Championship when they lost 1-0 to third placed Falkirk, the only goal came from a cross from Miller which was headed home by Mark Beck at the far post. By reports Dundee had started well and had various chances before the goal and after but failed to take them.

Second half they were much poorer and Kyle Letheren saved a penalty to stop it being 2-0. Dundee failed to get the vital goal for us to grab a point. Hamilton drew 1-1 at Cowdenbeath with the Blue Brazil scoring in the 95th minute to help us in the title run in. Hamilton go top on more goals scored. The lack of goals being scored is becoming a worry for me. Hopeful next Saturday's visit to New Douglas Park is the best time to start...

Dundee win but fail to Impress....

Dundee 1 Queen of the South 0, Dens Park, SPFL Championship, 25-March-14

Dundee beat Queen of the South at Dens on Tusday night, but they struggled in the first half with the Doonhammers having some good chances but failed to take. Dundee did very little in the opening period and they can be thankful Kyle Letheren was in fine form. Adam Cumming was making his debut and fitted well into the defence.

Second half was much better with Dundee starting to push forward and create some chances, but the breakthrough goal arrived on 57minutes when a McAlister cross was headed home by midfielder Iain Davidson to the relief of the Dundee fans. Then another chance came after a MacDonald back heel set up Gavin Rae but shot wildly wide of the goal. Nade came on for Riley to try and get the second killer goal to finish the game.

Striker Boyle had a great chance but chose to have a shot which the keeper saved instead of picking out McAlister who was clear. Dundee held out for the three points.

Next up is Falkirk who we haven't beaten all season so far.

Dundee Win At Dumbarton .......Just

Dumbarton 0, Dundee 1, Bet Butler Stadium, SPFL Championship, 22nd-March-14.

Dundee scraped through at Dumbarton on Saturday after the home team nearly done enough to earn some points. The dark blues started the game poorly and looked all over the place at the back. Early on Letheren had to look sharp to deny a goal. It then looked as if Dumbarton should have taken the lead when Letheren fumbled a Turner header over the line it looked a goal to me but it was ruled off for a foul in the box, to be fair it did not look much. Dundee did not heed this warning and they were saved a few times with Letheren making some good saves, the pace of Chris Kane was causing problems for the Dark Blues defence. I was glad to see half-time with the score still at 0-0.

Second half and Dundee were much better but struggled to get shots on goal, with only a Nade header on target to show for their efforts. Manager Hartley made changes with McDonald coming on for Nade who l thought had played okay with some neat flick on play. Later Craig Beattie came on the big striker has been out injured for before Christmas. But with the time running out Dundee were handed a gift when a long hopeful ball was headed out poorly by the keeper and Peter McDonald kept his composure and score from a very tight angle which saw the Dundee fans go wild with delight and relief that we had maybe snatched all three points. But only  couple of minutes later and Benedictus gave away a needless penalty to give the Sons a chance to level, but Kyle Letheren stood strong to make a great save from Prunty,s spot-kick effort. This might prove vital in the run in with Hamilton winning 4-3 at Morton.

Young Players Released.

Gary Duggan and James Thomson have left the club, they both played for the reserves this season. Thomson had been the captain and also had a plan spell at East Fife. Best of luck in the  future .

Falkirk 2 Dundee 0, Falkirk Stadium, SPFL Championship, 25-Feb-13

Dundee were well beaten on Saturday at the Falkirk Stadium, the home side won 2-0 and now sit above the dark blues. Manager John Brown made five changes and started with a 3-5-2 formation which failed earlier in the season. 

By match reports they struggled big time with the new signing making little impact. Stephen Hughes was replaced at halftime, with Christian Nade came off after keeper Letheren gave away a penalty. Sub keeper Dan Twardzik saved the spot kick to give Dundee some hope. Falkirk had scored early in the first half. 

They scored again when Loy made up for his penalty miss. I can see Dundee struggling now as I'm not impressed with the new signings. Sadly l can't see them improving the team. Time will tell and hope they prove me wrong.

Blast From The Past

Hamilton Game....

Dundee's game at Dens on Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. The game will now be played on Saturday the 8th of February with a 3pm kick-off. 

Dundee Sign Striker......

Dundee have signed experienced striker Christian Nade, the powerful front man is due to make his debut against league leaders Hamilton Accies at Dens on Saturday. The ex-Sheffield United and Hearts will add something to our front line.

Dundee Sign Stephen Hughes

Dundee have signed Stephen Hughes until the end of the season, the midfielder had been playing for east Fife this season. He has played for a host of clubs including Rangers, Leicester City, Norwich City, MK Dons, Motherwell, Aberdeen. I hope he does well for the Dark Blues it will be interesting to see as the east Fife fans were happy with his play for the New Bayview outfit this season.

Dens Poor Form Continues For Dundee

Dundee's recent form at Dens Park has been very poor this season and again the home side struggled to find any kind of form. They were dealt a blow when is was revealed that striker Peter MacDonald would miss the game with a ankle injury. Manager John Brown started with Wighton and Boyle upfront. Letheren returned to play in goals, but no starting place for Adam Cummings in the Dundee defence.

Livi started the better and took the game to Dundee they looked very well organised and it might prove hard for Dundee to break them down. It was no surprise when the visitors took the lead slack marking in the box and up popped ex-dee Mark Burchill to head home from around 7 yards. A shocking goal to lose. Dundee went on to have a lot of the ball but failed to create clear cut chances. The only one fell to Ryan Conroy who could only poorly shoot his effort against the keeper when in a goal scoring area.

Second half and we were not much better too slow from midfield and with strikers struggling the manager put on Monti and McIntosh to try to gee things up. They put effort in but the bottom line is they struggle to break teams down at Dens. I think we need a forward attacking midfielder and a attacking winger, both must have pace as we are lacking that at the moment. We also need a striker to cover the injury to Craig Beattie and also take the pressure off the young strikers we have at the club.

Ian Redford 1960-2014

Sadly Ex Dundee player Ian Redford passed away on Friday, he played 104 games and scoring 39 goals for the dark blues before he was sold for £210,000 to Rangers. he went on to play for Dundee United, Ipswich Town, Brechin City and then finished his career at Raith Rovers....

Defender Joins On Loan

Dundee have signed Adam Cumming from Motherwell until the end of the season, the central defender goes into the pool for the home game against Livingston this Saturday. The 20 year old has played for the Motherwell first team last season and he is keen to do well for the Dark Blues push for promotion.

Fine Start to 2014

Raith Rovers 0 Dundee 2, Starks Park, SPFL Championship, 02-January-2014

Dundee's New Year got off to a great start result wise with a fine win at Raith Rovers, two late goals from Jim McAlister sealed the points for the Dark Blues. On what l seen from the highlights and talking to DFC fans who were there it was quite a even game until the sending off. Then it turned Dundee's way, but even at 1-0 John Gibson had to make a couple of good saves to stop Raith grabbing a point.

The first goal was when Dundee were piling on the pressure near the end and the Rovers keeper dropped the ball, and Jim McAlister kept his cool to side footed the ball  home to sent the Dundee fans wild, then a couple of minutes later it was 2-0 Gibson saved it was then cleared up to a Rovers player near the half way line, in nipped Wighton to nick the ball and he played a great pass to set Jim McAlister free who round the goalkeeper and then side footed the ball home.

By reports John Gibson played well when he had to replace Kyle Letheren who had injured himself taking a high cross.

Fine Six Points For The Dark Blues.

Dundee 3, Dumbarton 0, Dens Park, SPFL Championship, 28th-December-2013

Dundee beat plucky Dumbarton 3-0 in a game which they had to battle all the way. Dumbarton were not easy to break down and could have been 1-0 in the first half after a incredible miss from Fleming with Gallagher doing well to clear on the line. Peter MacDonald scored a minute to put the dee ahead with a fine finish across the keeper to net high. Back came the Sons and they looked to have levelled when Prunty's shot to looked to have been over the line, but the linesman and Referee waved play on and it turned the game Dundee's way when two late goals from Kevin McBride ( a cracking shot from the edge of the box)and Peter MacDonald got his second shooting home on the turn, after good play from Monti. A good result for Dundee and puts them clear at the top.

Dundee claimed all three points with a well deserved win, going by reports they played well and made plenty chances. The vital goal came on 67 minutes when a good run by Lockwood firstly played a one-two with Riley then his deep cross was headed back by Boyle for Peter MacDonald to nod home. A fine goal to win any game and a massive three points for the Dark Blues.

Dundee Drop Points...............

Dundee 1, Cowdenbeath 2, Dens Park, SPFL Championship, 14th-December-2013

Dundee lost to Cowdenbeath at Dens Park on Saturday. The score line does not give justice to Cowdenbeath who on the day were the better side. The warning signs were there for Dundee when Kane Hemming's penalty was well saved by Letheren. In a terrible first half Dundee struggled badly and the hopes that the second half would be better were dashed when Hemming's scored after a defensive error from Davidson. Dundee tried to get back into and were thrown a lifeline when Jim McAlister scored with a well placed shot to give some cheer to the dark blue fans.

But five minutes later the Blue Brazil scored what proved to be the winner, a cross ball was not cleared and Morton slammed the ball home, another defensive error for the dark blues in a display to forget. Let's hope they can pull off a result next week away to Alloa Ath.
