Dundee 2, Aberdeen 2, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 2nd April 2022

Dundee's only change to the team was Danny Mullen came in for Declan McDaid, who was on the bench. Dundee started well and went for goal straight away, Christie Elliott hit the ball with pace across the Aberdeen box. 

Aberdeen then had a couple of chances and Lawlor done well to save when the ball  hit the bar. The game went end to end with a lot of scrappy football as both teams struggled to get the final move to create the first goal.

Dundee went close when Mullen's shot shaved the bar, at the other end Cammy Kerr headed one off the line, but the first goal came on 41 minutes when Ramsay scored with a fine shot to give Aberdeen the lead in the first half which came minutes later.

Second half and Dundee had a effort blocked to deny Rudden, Aberdeen attack more and it made Dundee change it when Charlie Adam came on for Christie Elliott. 

It changed the game as Dundee looked better going forward, and on 59 minutes Dundee were level. A good free kick after Marshall was fouled and Adam's cross was headed home by Jordan McGhee. It gave the Dundee support a lift.

But on 81 minutes Aberdeen took the lead again when McRorie scored from close in a poor goal to lose, I think the defence was too busy watching the diving Aberdeen strike who went down  looking for a penalty. 

Dundee hit back on 86 minutes again another free kick for Charlie Adam and his ball was headed home by Danny Mullen. Bothe teams went for the winner but it ended 2-2.

A point which Dundee fully deserved and gives us more hope of winning games in the coming weeks.

Dundee 1, Rangers 2, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 20-March-22

Dundee made five changes from the team beaten by Rangers in the cup last Sunday. Ian Lawlor, Christie Elliott, Shaun Byrne, Declan McDaid and Zak Rudden started in the places of Harrison Sharp, Lee Ashcroft, Max Anderson, Niall McGinn and Danny Mullen. Ashcroft and Mullen were injured. The other three were named as substitutes. 

They got off to a great start and scored on six minutes, good play from Rudden and Marshall and his cross was headed home by Christie Elliott to the delight of the Dundee fans. Both teams had chances soon after and McMullen just about got through on goal but the Rangers keeper got there first. 

Rangers got another soft penalty but this time they missed it, justice was done with that. Dundee got to half time pretty well even in the game.

Second half and the visitors made a few changes and it made a difference with more pressure on the Dundee defence with keeper Lawlor having to save a few. Dundee tried to hit on the break but it was tough going. Rangers did levelled when Ramsay scored from close range. 

It did look like Dundee were holding out for a vital point but Goldstone scored the winner for Rangers with 4 minutes to go. 

Dundee put in a lot of effort today, and were a lot better to watch than last week. Next up is Aberdeen at Dens a week on Saturday.

Dundee 0, Rangers 3, Dens Park, Scottish Cup 1/4 Final. 13-March-22

Dundee were beaten 3-0 in this Scottish Cup 1/4 tie at Dens Park. Rangers scored early after a bit of pressure. Dundee tried but were second best in the opening 20 minutes. The game was nearly finished when the Referee pointed to the spot to award a penalty. It was a very soft award and with Rangers scoring it was a long way back for the dark blues.

Second half and Rangers scored again to make the final score 3-0. A bad day at the office for Dundee, not helped by the small crowd for a 1/4 Final tie, sadly money and TV has a lot to answer for.  

At least now the club can focus on the final league run in which won't be easy.

Dundee 0, St Mirren 1, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 09-March-22

Dundee again had to make changes when Luke McCowan and Niall McGinn returned to the starting line up in place of Shaun Byrne and Vontae Daley-Campbell. A vital game for Dundee and they need the points as tougher games are coming up. 

Both teams knocked the ball about with out either keeper getting tested, Dundee had few efforts at goal and only a deflected shot from Max Anderson which went wide. It was much like that in the first half.

Second half and Dundee did much the same as the first half, they had efforts at goal which all went wild. The one thing that got me was a few decent crosses were put in but nobody up front to attack the ball.

St Mirren  should have scored but some how the player put the ball over the ball, it should have been a goal. Dundee tried to go forward but some of the players were now getting tired.

Dundee made two changes with Shaun Byrne and Zak Rudden being introduced in place of Luke McCowan and Declan McDaid but it was the visitors who continued with the pressure.

St Mirren looked the better side and had good efforts on goal, and a headed goal ruled out for a foul. But in injury time they got the winner when Ronan headed home. A poor goal to lose as he was not picked up. 

This goal will make it very hard for Dundee to stay up as the game will be harder before the split. I can only back my team on which l will do.

Motherwell 1, Dundee 1, Fir Park, cinch Premiership, 05-March-22

Dundee were forced to make five changes from the team that drew with Hibs on Wednesday. Ian Lawlor was unavailable so Harrison Sharp came in for his league debut in goal. Lee Ashcroft, Shaun Byrne, Vontae Daley-Campbell and Declan McDaid all started, replacing Charlie Adam, Paul McGowan, Niall McGinn and Danny Mullen.

Dundee got off to a great start when Paul McMullen took control of the ball and cut inside to curl home to the delight of the Dundee fans. It really settled the side and they looked really up for the fight. It made  Motherwell  come out a bit and Dundee used this to hit on the break. 

The home side were level on 12 minutes when good play set up Elford who scored with ease, soon after Dundee were looking good and had efforts on goal which on another day they would go in. 

The defence looked a lot better and Harrison Sharp done really well in goal. It was 1-1 at half-time.

Second half and Motherwell put Dundee under pressure but they coped okay, soon after Dundee made two changes as Vontae Daley-Campbell was replaced by Jay Chapman who moved into the central midfield. Anderson went to the left and McMullan switched to the right wing.

The change almost paid immediate dividends. McMullan raced past Ojala and from the cross Declan McDaid hooked his shot past the angle of post and bar. A minute later McDaid had another go. His shot deflected off Jordan McGhee but Kelly was able to readjust and save.

In the last 15 minutes Motherwell went for a winner but Dundee battled well , defended well and seen out the time for a vital point.

Dundee made five changes to the team, in came Jordan Marshall, Charlie Adam, Paul McMullen, Paul McGowan and Niall McGinn started. The five players who dropped out were Vontae Daley-Campbell, Zeno Ibsen Rossi, Josh Mulligan and Shaun Byrne who shifted onto the bench and Zak Rudden who was unavailable for Covid related reasons, as were Luke McCowan and Christie Elliot.

Dundee started slowly and visitors Hibernian were much the same, Jordan McGhee was unlucky when he shot over the bar after a good move. Hibs had forced Lawlor into a couple of saves but nothing to worry the keeper. 

Second half was just as slow but sparked into life when Charlie Adam came very close to a goal, his shot shaved the post. Hibernian were down to ten men when Bushiri was sent off for a off ball foul. 

This helped Dundee to have a spell but they failed to score as the game ended in a draw. Poor stuff from both teams in my view. Dundee will see it as points dropped which is vital in their fight to stay in the league. At least it was a lot better than last Saturday.

Tough Watch..

Hopefully Dundee can bounce back on Wednesday when they play Hibs at Dens Park. One thing for sure they really need to if they have any chance of staying in the top league. From my point of view they were too slow and never looked up for the challenge. 

Maybe tough on the young players but they need to step up. Livingston fully deserved the win but it was so easy for them after the first 20 minutes.

At least now new Manager Mark McGhee will see it's a big job ahead and it will take a lot of effort to make the play-off as l can't see any better in the final league position. 

It was a very tough watch on Saturday and l have seen a few in the last 41 years, it was the lack of fight which was bad. I will back the team and can only hope for the best until the end of the season.

Dundee 0, Livingston 4, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 26-February-22

Dundee's only change from Parkhead was Zak Rudden replaced Paul McMullen. Dundee were looking to get points in their fight to stay up this season. 

Dundee started on the attack but failed to create anything clear and it Livingston who struck first on six minutes. Poor defending let a strong cross which Lawlor parried and Anderson had a easy tap in to score. Dundee did attack in the next ten minutes with Rossi having a shot blocked after being set up by Cammy Kerr.

When Livingston attacked and put crosses in Dundee were struggling to cope and on 18 minutes it was 2-0. More poor marking and Pittman scored from a few yards out. Two minutes later and it 3-0 another poor goal to lose a long free kick and a low cross fell to Anderson in the box and he scored with ease.

Dundee sent on Paul McMullen for Zeno Ibsen Rossi as Dundee changed to 4-4-2 to try and get back into the game before half-time. Sadly they failed and were still struggling to attack that would lead to a fightback.

Second half and Dundee made two changes Charlie Adam and Niall McGinn came on for Shaun Byrne and Josh Mulligan. But Livingston looked like they would score again. They did but it was ruled offside. Dundee had a few attacks but never tested the Livi goalkeeper.

Again Livingston came close with two efforts just going wide, but on 65 minutes it 4-0 a simple low cross found Fitzwater scored with a well placed shot across Lawlor. As the game went on it looked like Livingston would score more, Dundee were second to best all over the pitch and fully deserved to lose this game. 

The final whistle went with sadly a lot of Dundee fans had left due to the game they had just watched.

Celtic 3, Dundee 2, Parkhead, cinch Premiership, 20-February-22

Dundee Manager Mark McGhee made two changes from the team that started at Peterhead. Vontae Daley-Campbell returned from suspension and Josh Mulligan retained his place after being a substitute on Monday. They replaced the injured Charlie Adam, and Niall McGinn, who was on the bench.

As usual at Parkhead Dundee were under pressure as Celtic had a lot of the ball, Dundee were playing a 5-3-2 formation so likely would hit on the break. Dundee were working hard to stop Celtic and they only went close once.

Dundee pushed forward and won two corners, the second one was successful when Danny Mullen peeled away to the back post and when McMullen's corner fell to the striker he kept his cool and side footed the ball home for the lead.

Celtic came back and within 8 minutes they were 2-1 up and this was the score at half time, it's a pity about the second goal and going in level at the break would have been better.

Second half and Dundee made  two changes when Niall McGinn and Luke McCowan replaced  Paul McMullan and Josh Mulligan.

Again it was more pressure from Celtic, but on 60 minutes it was 2-2 from a Niall McGinn provided a fine cross from the right and Ryan Sweeney headed powerfully inside Joe Hart’s right hand post from 15 yards.

Soon after and after great play and pass from Max Anderson Danny Mullen just put the ball over the bar, it was a good spell for Dundee.

Celtic scored what proved to be the winner with four minutes to go, it was a hat trick for the home striker. Zak Rudden replaced Zeno Ibsen Rossi for the three minutes injury time.

Dundee did push forward and had shouts for a penalty when the ball came off a Celtic player, but the referee waved play on and blew the full time whistle.

Dundee will feel a bit unlucky today, at the least the effort was there and if they will face the next two games in the same manner points should come their way.

Mark McGhee

A bit of a shock for me as Mark McGhee takes over as Manager, being honest likely would not be my choice. His record is not the best , but the main thing for me is  What he does now. I always back new Managers and in forty odd years watching Dundee FC l have seen a few.

Next up is Celtic away so hope we get a result when least expected, Dundee fans are not too happy on social media but that's the way it is now a days.

James McPake

Dundee have parted company with Manager James McPake as they now look out for a new manager. James has been with the club for eight years as a player before being current Manager.

The timing is a bit strange as Dundee have won their last two game, tough for James but the job is a results business these days. My feeling is not enough attacking football has not helped this squad.

I really hope the board gets it right as we really need to stay up for the future of the club. Time will tell Good luck to James on what he does as his heart was in the right position in his time as Manager.

Peterhead v Dundee, Balmoor Stadium, Scottish Cup 5th Round, 14-February-22

Dundee made three changes Zeno Ibsen Rossi came in for his debut in central defence. Max Anderson and Nial McGinn. Liam Fontaine and Josh Mulligan were on the bench, and Zak Rudden was cup tied.

Peterhead started well and had two decent efforts on goal, Dundee looked a wee bit slow and moving the ball quickly was hard as Peterhead had five in their midfield. 

Dundee had a couple of efforts  but nothing to worry Peterhead, again Ian Lawlor had to save well. Against the run of play Dundee took the lead, a great ball from Anderson set free McMullan and he was fouled in the box by the keeper. A penalty to Dundee and it was easy for Charlie Adam to score sending the keeper the wrong way.

After this Peterhead came back and hit the post with a shot most times it would have went in, soon after and sloppy play from the defence put Lawlor in trouble and he was very lucky to get away with the foul on the Peterhead striker. It was a stonewall penalty which the referee played on.

Second half and again Peterhead came back and Lawlor made a good diving save, but minutes later it was two nil. A great pass from Adam foul Niall McGinn and his first touch was class and he set up to drive the ball home.

It put Dundee in a better place and although Peterhead kept going Dundee played better and used the ball better. They managed to get a third goal which was a first for youngster Josh Mulligan who took the ball well and curled the ball home. 

Dundee played the time out and were into the 1/4 Final stage of the Scottish Cup. Hosts Peterhead made it very hard for Dundee and they will feel  hard done by the penalty which should have been given.

Hearts 1, Dundee 2, Tynecastle, cinch Premiership, 9th February 2022

Dundee made four changes Ian Lawlor replaced the injured Adam Legzdins in goal. Charlie Adam and Danny Mullen returned to the starting eleven, and Josh Mulligan made his first league start for the Dark Blues. They replaced Max Anderson and Niall McGinn, who were on the bench, and the suspended Vontae Daley-Campbell.

Dundee started under some pressure but it came to nothing, Ian Lawlor dropped a cross ball but recovered quickly. Hearts did score on 18 minutes when Simms got into the box and his shot went through the legs of Lawlor, it looked a soft goal to lose. 

Soon after and Ryan Sweeney done well to clear one off the line it looked a certain goal. Ryan Sweeney had a header which went too high over the bar

Dundee did have half chances but all their efforts failed to hit the target. At least they got to half time only 1-0 down.

Second half and after six minutes it was 1-1, a good run by Danny Mullen and his cross came off Sibbick and it went into the net to level the game. A bit of luck but nobody from Dundee will complain.

Dundee had to weather some pressure but Lawlor made some vital saves. Dundee claimed for a penalty for hand ball but it did look soft. Dundee looked a lot better and played some nice football.

Hearts lacked the final ball to trouble Dundee and their fans were not happy. Dundee then took the lead when a good run by Anderson and the ball fell to McGinn whose cross was put in the net via the cross bar by  Danny Mullen. A well taken goal and one that they fully deserved.

Dundee saw the last 12 minutes out and Lawlor saved well in the last minute the closest Hearts came to saving a point. 

I watched the game on Alba at 10pm and it was good to see a vital win which the players gave 100% each. The score line never surprised me as it's what Dundee have done in the last 40 years.

Dundee Sign Zeno

Dundee have signed Zeno Ibsen Rossi on loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season. Zeno made his professional debut on loan at Kilmarnock last season. He played 20 time during his loan time.

He will be in the squad for tonight's game at Tynecastle, and will wear Number 35.

Tough Season

Tough time watching Dundee FC at the moment with only four league wins all season. The defeat from Ross County was poor for the club as they haven only won six games....Three against Dundee all games six pointers and it has cost the club.

Looking back on the games against Ross County I have seen is poor reading to me. 19 homes games with just 4 wins, 6 draws 9 defeats at Dens Park. Away I have seen 6 games with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat.

I'm glad l have missed a lot of games as my first game was a Pre Season game away in 1986 Dundee won 7-1. The last win at Dens was the 5-2 game season 2015-16. Seen 5 games since with 2 draws and the last three has been defeats. I'm glad I missed the 5-0 this season.

Dundee has had problems against Ross County far more than just this season. Dundee have struggled a lot against teams who they play in the bottom six for the most of the 42 years l have followed them.

I will keep watching them as they are my team and always will be.

Just hope for wins in the next two games against Hearts and Celtic in the league

Dundee made two team changes Zak Rudden came in for his first start and Jordan McGhee started in midfield. Danny Mullen and Charlie Adam were both on the bench for the visit of Ross County. 

Dundee just about took the lead in the first minute when McMullen hit the ball with a good effort. Soon after a Anderson shot was deflected just wide, County did attack as well and Legzdins  done well to save. 

Dundee looked good going forward and they scored a well worked goal when McMullen found McGhee and his chip pass was smashed into the net by Zak Rudden for his first goal for the club.

In the last five minutes off the half it should have been 2-0 great play from Rudden and McMullen and his cross found Anderson who's shot went straight to the keeper, it came of his thigh so very unlucky.

In injury time County levelled with a good worked goal, but terrible from Dundee's point of view. The second half will be interesting now to say the least.

Dundee had a few early chances but failed to take them, but soon after the referee gave County a penalty after the ball hit Cammy Kerr in the box. Adam Legzdins guessed well and made a fine diving save.

After Sweeney and Kerr went for the same ball they clashed and the County striker went on and score the vital second goal. 

Dundee made changes but it still failed to produce anything clear and the closest was Danny Mullen shot which was saved on the line. 

Time ran out and that puts Dundee in a difficult place at the bottom of the league, three defeats to Ross County this season has done a lot of damage to them. 

Hearts and Celtic next both away from home so it does not get any easier, we can only hope for points.

 Leigh Griffths has left the club at the end of the loan deal. Leigh scored 3 goals in 17 games for the club. All the best for the future and thanks for the effort put in this season.

Dundee will play St Mirren on the 23rd of February with a 19:45pm kick-off, the game was called off last Saturday due to very high winds.

Dundee made four changes Vontae Daley-Campbell came straight in for his debut. Niall McGinn was given his first start, while Charlie Adam and Danny Mullen returned. They replaced Christie Elliott and Luke McCowan, who were on the bench, and Paul McGowan and Leigh Griffiths.

Both teams started well and Max Anderson had a couple of strong runs, and just about played in McMullen who just failed to get a clean shot in. Ryan Sweeney just missed the goals with a decent header. 

Paul McMullen had a fine header saved by the  United keeper to keep it 0-0 at half-time was soon after. 

Second half and Dundee started well and pushed United back, good play from McGinn got him into the box but he failed to find a team mate. McMullen had a good effort saved as Dundee looked for the vital first goal.

Soon after Dundee made  twin substitutions after 61 minutes gave the Dark Blues an additional burst of energy. Zak Rudden and Luke McCowan came on for McGinn and Adam. Jordan McGhee had replaced Daley-Campbell a couple of minutes previously.

Dundee came close in the last 20 minutes, when twice the ball was cleared off the line. First a Zak Rudden deflected shot was headed off the line, from the corner a Fontaine shot was cleared off the line.

In the last few minutes United had a great chance but Clarke somehow missed the goals from a few yards out.

Transfer Window Update and Other News

Dundee have signed Vontae Daley-Campbell on loan from Leicester City. Right back Vontae started his career in the youth set up with Arsenal before moving to Leicester in 2019.

Highly rated, he has represented England from under 16s level through to under 19s. He signs on loan until the end of the 2021/22 season and will wear squad number 22.

Zak Rudden has joined the club as  early after Dundee done a deal with Partick Thistle. Alex Jakubiak has today signed a contract extension with the club and joined Partick Thistle on a loan deal until the end of the season. 

St Johnstone 0, Dundee 0, McDiarmid Stadium, cinch Premiership, 26-January-22

Dundee made four changes Adam Legzdins returned in goal, with Ian Lawlor on the bench. Liam Fontaine, Paul McMullan and Leigh Griffiths started in the places of Jordan McGhee and Danny Mullen, who were missing, and Josh Mulligan who was a substitute.

Both teams started slowly as getting points are a must for both sides, Max Anderson had a 28 yard shot well saved by the saints keeper. That was the story of the first half with both teams struggling.

At the start of the second half Dundee made two changes, Charlie Adam and Niall McGinn replaced Paul McGowan and Luke McCowan.  Both midfielders done well and Griffiths had a good effort saved as Dundee pushed for a winner. 

Alex Jakubiak replaced Griffiths for the last wee bit of the game and a Adam shot was cleared off the line and the chance was gone. At least a point is okay, and it stopped the bad run of defeats.

Next up is St Mirren at Dens this Saturday.

Dundee have signed Niall McGinn from Aberdeen on a 18 months deal, Niall will play with number 77. A good signing for the club.

Sam Fisher has been recalled from Forfar Athletic from his loan deal. This will also help the club's squad for the tail end of the season.

Dumbarton 0, Dundee 1, C&G Systems Stadium, Scottish Cup 4th Round, 22-January-22

Dundee made three changes for this Scottish Cup tie at Dumbarton.  Goal keeper Ian Lawlor made his debut, replacing Adam Legzdins who was on the bench. Shaun Byrne and Josh Mulligan came into the midfield in the place of Charlie Adam and Paul McMullan who were both named as substitutes.

Dundee started well in the first 20 minutes and Mulligan was unlucky with a shot, Mullen and Mulligan both missed a dangerous cross. Soon after Sweeney headed wide of the post, it was a good chance.

After this Dumbarton came into the game but lucky for Dundee they defended well and no real clear cut chance came along for the Sons. Jordan McGhee was unlucky with a long range shot which the keeper had to tip over the ball. 

Just before half time Dumbarton were down to ten men when Ross MacLean received a straight red card, after a off the ball swipe at Cammy Kerr who went down to the ground.

Second half and a few changes were made as Dundee went into a 3-5-2 formation with Leigh Griffiths and Paul McMullan replacing Paul McGowan and Jordan McGhee. 

It changed the game as Dundee went forward and looked better as a team. Griffiths had a half chance and got his shot in, done well as the pass was too slow to the striker. Soon after and Charlie Adam replaced Josh Mulligan who had played well. 

Dundee finally took the vital lead on 63 minutes when the Referee pointed to the spot after a cross from Max Anderson was struck Sam Muir's arm. It did look soft but Dundee fans won't complain.

Leigh Griffth's scored from penalty spot to get the vital goal, the keeper got a good hand on the ball, but it was not enough.

Dundee looked to get the next goal and Cammy Kerr headed wide from the centre of the goal. Dumbarton battled to the end but never looked like scoring. 

So good to be in the next round and we wait to see who we get in the next round. 

Best player for me was Ryan Sweeney who played well, and good to see goal keeper Ian Lawlor having a good debut for the club.

Dundee Sign Zak Rudden

Dundee have the signing of Zak Rudden on a pre-contract. 21-year-old Zak has hit the net nine times for SPFL Championship side Partick Thistle this season. 

Zak will sign a deal until 2025 when his contract at Firhill expires in the summer. 

It looks a good signing for the club as for the games that l have seen the young striker play.

Livingston 2, Dundee 0. Tony Macaroni Arena , cinch Premiership, 18-January-22

Dundee were able to play a stronger team with Charlie Adam, Max Anderson, Paul McMullan and Danny Mullen all returned to the starting eleven. Their first game since Boxing Day defeat at Aberdeen. 

The game got off to a slow start and the first worry for Dundee was after just six minutes when Jordan Marshall had to be replaced by Christie Elliott. 

Dundee's first chance was soon after when McMullen forced a good save from the livi keeper to give Dundee a corner. Livingston was next to have chances but Dundee managed to clear their lines. 

As the game wore on Livi seemed more up for the fight for the vital points as Dundee had a lot of the ball, but failed to have the cutting edge up front.

At the end of the first half Cammy Kerr ran in from the left wing only to be fouled 22 yards from goal. It looked a promising position, but Luke McCowan’s free kick was several feet too high.

The opening 60 seconds of the second half were a nightmare for the Dee defence. Odin Bailey took advantage of defensive hesitancy to send Anderson through, but Legzdins made a fine save to divert the shot onto the bar and over for a corner.

The escape lasted only a few seconds. Dundee half cleared the corner, but James Penrice stuck out a boot to block the clearance. Anderson  picked up the rebound, turned and shot through Legzdins’ legs to give Livingston the lead.

Dundee kept struggling only effort at goal was a Mullen header which was saved by the Liv keeper. The game looked over when Livingston grabbed the second vital, again like the first one Anderson was able to score with ease with not tight enough marking from the Dundee defence.

Josh Mulligan came on for Charlie Adam, and then Alex Jakubiak and Leigh Griffiths replaced Paul McGowan and Paul McMullan. Nothing changed, and Livingston were able to see the game out.

For Dundee they struggled to find that cutting edge upfront and was down to the final pass. They really need to pick up form in the next four league games as they will tell the story if we are able to stay in the league.

Dundee Sign Jay Chapman

Dundee have signed Jay Chapman from  Inter Miami. Canadian international Jay, 28, comes with experience of playing in the MLS over the last six years. Hopefully he will arrive at Dens in the near future. 

Aberdeen 2, Dundee 1, Pittodrie Stadium, cinch Premiership, 26th December 2021

Dundee lost 2-1 at Pittodrie on Boxing Day. The game went ahead and Dundee tried to get the game off due to Covid-19 after they lost 5 players.

A squad of just 14 players made the trip and that included three goalkeepers. Dundee took the lead on seven minutes gone after they got a free kick 35 yards out. Striker Leigh Griffiths spotted a gap in the Dons wall and he smashed the ball home for a tremendous goal.

Unlucky for Dundee the home side levelled five minutes later when they scored after a good run from Hedges, both teams battled away and it came to half-time at 1-1.

Second half and it was all Aberdeen with Dundee struggling to get the ball forward to Griffiths. But with 20 minutes to go they got what proved to be the winner. The ball was played across the box it broke twice for Ferguson to score with a 20 yard shot.

Dundee could have levelled with minutes to a long ball into the box from McGowan was headed down and Fontaine just about forced the ball home, and lucky for the dons they cleared the ball.

Dundee 0, Hearts 1, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 18-December-21

Dundee starting eleven had only two changes, with Christie Elliott and Leigh Griffiths replacing Ryan Sweeney and Jordan Marshall. However, four of the players who started against Hibs had to move to different positions. Cammy Kerr switched from right to left back. Jordan McGhee dropped back into central defence. Dundee had only five players on the bench.

Hearts started well and attacked from kick off, for the good of Dundee their defence done really well to cope. Hearts did have a shot but it was well over the bar. As the first half was coming up Luke McCowan done well to get the shot in which the Hearts keeper had to save.

Second half and Hearts again took the game to Dundee but again they done well to defend. Dundee again attacked on the break but they did look a bit slower as the game went on. Dundee keeper Adam Legzdins had only a couple of crosses to deal with.

But on 75 minutes Hearts scored with a bit luck, the shot from McEneff  was weak and straight at Legzdins but Liam Fontaine stuck out a foot, diverting the ball onto the post. The rebound flew across goal for Walker to shoot high into the net at the far post.

Dundee brought on Alex Jakubiak in the place of Luke McCowan as they tried to hit back. They did try and had a couple of efforts which were just wide of the goals. The fog did come down quickly which did not help both teams as the game came to a close.

It was Cammy Kerr's 200th game for the club, so well done Cammy

Plenty effort from the Dundee players and all got pass marks from the Dundee fans. The club now need results in the next two games against Aberdeen and  Livingston in the next week and a half.

Hibernian 1, Dundee 0, Easter Road, cinch Premiership, 14-December-21

Dundee had the same team as Saturday after Charlie Adam who is out injured. They started on the backfoot as Hibernian pushed forward. Ryan Sweeney picked up a early booking for a slight push on Boyle.

First effort on goal was a Paul McGowan shot which the Hibernian keeper saved, it was Dundee's only shot on goal as they struggled in midfield which put pressure on their defence.

Hibernian got the break through when a good run by Boyle and he crossed McMullen tried to clear but headed into his own goal.

Second half and Dundee had a wee go and after a good move Mullen should have scored but put his shot well over the bar. Hibernian had a few more chances but failed to get a second killer goal.

Cumming and Griffiths came on for Dundee but they were left isolated as Dundee failed to get the ball into the box. Hibernian saw the game out which was not a problem.

Ryan Sweeney was sent off for dissent after petty decision from the Referee.

A poor game for Dundee over all, we really need to be more positive this coming Saturday when Hearts visit Dens Park.

Ross County 3, Dundee 2, Global Energy Stadium, cinch Premiership, 11-December-21

Dundee made one change for their line up, Max Anderson replacing Christie Elliott. 

Dundee started well and had put some pressure on the County defence. A blow for Dundee when Charlie Adam went down with a injury. Jordan McGhee came on for Adam. 

Soon after and Dundee took the lead when a long ball was headed into the path of Luke McCowan who shot home from 18 yards. A superb goal for the young striker.

Dundee were looking dangerous going forward, but it the home side who drew level when a Charles-Cook’s cross found Samuel six yards out. Adam Legzdins pulled off a miraculous stop from the header but the rebound struck Samuel and bobbled over the line.

But on 38 minutes Dundee went back in front with a beautifully worked goal. Max Anderson took the ball under pressure midway inside the Dee half. He turned skilfully clear of trouble and broke into space giving Danny Mullen the chance to send Jordan Marshall racing clear down the left. Marshall passed inside for Luke McCowan to take a touch and shoot across the keeper and score from 12 yards.

Ross County put another striker on for the second half to try and get back into the game, McCowan just about got his hat-trick but his shot was well saved. 

Then it was all level when Dundee lost a poor game, the keeper missed a cross and the ball came off Mullen to end up in the net to make it 2-2.

Dundee came forward and were unlucky when Mullen hit the post, but County got the winner with 12 minutes to go, a high ball was poorly cleared and it fell nicely for Charles-Cook to score.

Dundee went close but Griffith's header was too close to the keeper. Time ran out for the dark blues who must see this as points dropped. A win today would have opened a gap of 8 points. 

Next up is a tough game at Easter Road where Dundee must get some points to boost our festive fixtures.

Dundee lost 3-0 at Ibrox, 1-0 down at haft time it was 2-0 on 55 minutes which would have made the game tough. Rangers got a third with 20 minutes left to go. 

It was likely a score you would expect due to the difference in the playing squads money worth wise.

Next up is a trip to Dingwall next Saturday which will be a importance game for the club.

Dundee 1, St Johnstone 0, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 1st December 2021

Dundee made one change from Saturdays game when Liam Fontaine replaced injured Lee Ashcroft.

Dundee started well and took the game to St Johnstone, Mullen and McMullen had efforts blocked by their visitors. McCowan is looking good as well with two efforts well blocked by the saints defence.

Dundee take the lead when a Fontaine cross field pass is headed down and after being headed down falls for McGowan, he plays it into Danny Mullen who takes a touch before a lovely turn and finish, giving Clark no chance. 

Minutes before half time Adam hits the post from about 25 yards out, but at least Dundee are winning at half time.

Again Dundee have three good efforts and saints seem to be out of the game at the moment. With 20 minutes to go Griffths comes on for McGowan who by reports has played well.

Leigh Griffths has a effort ruled out for off side as Dundee look for the second goal to finish this game, Perth Saints did have a few efforts but it did not turn into any chance of goal. 

Dundee ran the clock out and a massive result for the Dark Blues this puts the club up the table to being 9th in the tough league.

I missed the game due to my ill health just now, a lot better than a few weeks ago, but it does take it's toll. It's tough just now missing games being a season ticket holder. But hopefully things will change in a few months time. 

Next up for the dark blues is a wee trip to Ibrox, let's hope the club gets a result.

Dumbarton In The Scottish Cup Draw...............

Dundee will play Dumbarton away in the 4th Round of the Scottish Cup after the draw was made after the Brechin City game. The game will be played weekend of 22nd of January 2022

Dundee 3, Motherwell 0, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 27th November 2021

Dundee started well and might have scored early on but Danny Mullen effort was ruled offside. Motherwell put a effort in but were too busy looking to foul Dundee players. 

Dundee had went back to a back four and looked pretty solid as a team. They took the lead on 19 minutes when good play from Marshall his ball found Luke McCowan who took a nice touch and the young striker slotted home from 10 yards for a fine goal.

This settled Dundee and they could have added a few more but found the Motherwell keeper in fine form. The well had a few attacks but found the Dundee defence solid and they done well to set up Dundee attacks.

Dundee worked a sweet move down the left from a free kick when a high ball into the box was the obvious option. Marshall combined with McMullan who crossed for Max Anderson to hit a low drive that flicked off a defender and just past the post. Liam Kelly saved superbly from Lee Ashcroft’s header when the corner came over.

The pressure was relentless and McMullan’s fierce angled shot was pushed round the post by Kelly. From another corner Well could clear only as far as Paul McGowan lurking outside the penalty area. He quickly headed the ball back. Instead of shooting Adam fooled the defence by passing to McCowan who quickly moved the ball on for Danny Mullen to fire inside the post from eight yards.

Dundee could have added more up to half time, but it was a good half for them.

Second half and Motherwell made two changes to their team, but it made little difference and Dundee made it 3-0 when a good ball into the box fell kindly to Ryan Sweeney who knocked the ball home from 6 yards out to clearly finish the game.

Dundee kept going and the Motherwell keeper made two great saves to stop Dundee hitting five or more. The second half went quickly but it was a fine win for Dundee and the first time over the Steelmen in around ten games.

Doug Cowie

Sad to hear of the passing of Doug Cowie who played a record 446 games for Dundee FC , he also won two League Cups with the club. Doug also played in two World Cups for Scotland in 1954 and 1958.

I was so lucky to sit at the same table as Doug at a Dundee FC player of the year. It was a wonderful night and Doug Cowie was a total gentleman and everyone had the highest regard for this player.

I will never see a player like this play for Dundee ever , and in my 40 plus years they has been a few, but to see the teams that Doug played in would have been just wonderful.

My thoughts and Condolences go to all of  Doug's Family and all his friends at this sad time. 

Dundee 2, Celtic 4, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 7th November 2021

Dundee lost this game 4-2 to Celtic at Dens park, who had their strikers in top form. They went 2-0 up in the first half. Danny Mullen  pulled one back when he headed home to make 2-1 at half-time.

At least Dundee fought well and Second half and it was 4-1 quickly as the game went Celtic's way. Lee Ashcroft headed home to make it 4-2 and they fought well to the end.

Manager  James McPake made three changes from the Ross County defeat. Max Anderson, Luke McCowan and Cillian Sheridan started, replacing Jordan McGhee, Leigh Griffiths and Jason Cummings, who were all on the bench.

Dundee played well for the 90 minutes and a great response from the the Ross County game. Max Anderson scored after 11 minutes with a fine finish after a tremendous move going forward by the dark blues. 

Dundee should have got a second soon after but some how the buddies cleared their defence. 

Dundee played some fine stuff with the subs that came on all done well. Going by the reports it was a fine support today at Paisley which would have helped the team.

A great three points which was well needed in this tough season back in the top league.

Dundee lost this home game 5-0 to Ross County, they were unlucky not to score when Charlie Adam's shot was knocked over the ball by the County keeper, when on on a other night it goes into the net.

After seeing the County goals they deserved their win scoring some fine goals, for Dundee it was night to forget. Pretty glad l missed this game given the score line.

Dundee got a fine 1-1 draw at Tynecastle on which they had to battle hard all the way to the end. John Souttar put the home side in control scoring after 36 minutes. 

They put Dundee under a lot of pressure. But it was sub Jason Cummings who headed home with seven minutes to go to get a fine point.

Tynecastle is always hard going so a fine point for the dark blue on the road.

Dundee were rewarded with three fine points after beating Aberdeen 2-1 at Dens Park. James McPake made three changes to the starting eleven. Charlie Adam, Leigh Griffiths and Luke McCowan came in for Liam Fontaine, Paul McGowan and Jason Cummings.

Dundee got got off to a fine start and took the game to their visitors who have been struggling this season. Luke McCowan was really unlucky and forced Woods into a fine save to keep it 0-0 at half-time. Dundee had some fine play but missed the final ball.

Second half and it took Dundee just four minutes to take the lead with a fine goal, great lead up work from McInatosh, McCowan the ball fell to Paul McMullen who floated a fine high pass to Leigh Griffths who scored his first goal after returning to Dens with a fine low finish. 

Aberdeen did come back into the game but Dundee defended well and made it 2-0 on 62 minutes when Luke McCowan took down the ball well and curled a great sot past Woods to put the Dee into the driving seat.

Aberdeen came back and scored to make the game tighter, Dundee battled well defended well and seen out the 11 minutes of injury time due to injuries to Lee Ashcroft and Shaun Byrne, Shaun had to go off injured.

A fine three points for the dark blues and one l hope they can build on.

Dundee Catch Up

 I have missed the last 5 games or so due to being in Hospital and off my work. The good news is I'm on my way back. I'm happy it's likely down to my fitness that has helped and l look forward to the Motherwell game in a week. I will do small match reports Happy we were able to keep Aberdeen's good run going.
