Dundee 3 Partick Th 2, Dens Park, First Division,

Dundee played their last home game of the season, and it  turned out to be a beautiful day in the sun. A big Dundee support came out, and were treated to some great football.

Team wise Leighton McIntosh was missing due to a hamstring injury, Connor Rennie came in and Nicky Riley played upfront as a striker. Not too much goalmouth action in the first half, l suppose Dundee missed having a main striker to link up their good play.

Second half and with Dundee shooting down towards the Bob Shankly stand, they started very well and got the breakthrough on 58 minutes when Nicky Riley done well and fed Craig Forsyth in to finish well with a well placed shot. A couple of minutes later and goal no two came along, from a Douglas throw to Harkins who turned his marker with ease, his sublime cross found Forsyth who's shot was saved by Fox but Fozzy was quickest to react to head home to send Dens wild with delight.

 

Minutes later and Connor Rennie was unlucky not to make it 3-0 but keeper Fox made a great save to deny the young defender. Soon after Thistle pulled one back when Stewart finish with a fine shot catching the Dundee defence cold. But minutes late Dundee got their third goal when after Forsyth was fouled in the box, the Partick defender getting a red card as well. Up stepped Matty Lockwood to blast home with ease. Dundee had a few more chances but could not get the fourth goal. Partick did score deep into injury time when Doolan at the back post, but the game was well finished by that time.

So a happy Dundee support when home to enjoy the evening with a few beers, I know l did. Well played Dundee today the whole staff deserved their lap of honour.

Morton 1 Dundee 3, Cappielow, First Division, 16/April/11

Dundee claimed three very vital points towards safety with a fine 3-1 win at Cappielow. which is always a hard place to come to.

Dundee started very well and got off to a great start when good play led to Matt Lockwood to cross to the back post where young striker Leighton McIntosh headed home to score his second goal for the club. Dundee played some fine stuff and with a bit of luck they could have scored 3 or four goals. Morton played okay as well and Douglas had a couple of fine saves. I think we got off with a break from the ref when O'Brien went down in the box but the ref booked him for diving. I thought it was a penalty. But in 42 minutes Dundee got the vital second goal and what a goal is was, Gary Harkins used some skill to make space and he beat the keeper with a superb chip from the edge of the box.
 

 

Morton started the second half very positively and Rab Douglas had to look sharp on a few occasions, but they did pull one back when O'Brien scored a fine goal, it was end to end stuff now and Dundee defended well to keep the Ton at bay, but Harkins could have scored again but the Morton keeper saved well. But with 18 mins to go Leighton McIntosh wrapped up the 3 points when clean through he tried to chip the keeper who saved but the ball fell kindly and he headed home to send the Dundee fans wild with delight.

So another fine performance and now might just need a point at Dingwall to make sure of First Division football next season.

Dundee 1 Stirling Albion 1, Dens Park, First Division, 10-April-11

Dundee started with Lockwood and Benedictus taking up the centre half spots, Connor Rennie stayed at right back, with Craig Forsyth moving to left back. Nicky Riley returned to the team. Weston, Irvine and McKeown all missed the game due to suspension.

Both teams started quite slowly and not much goalmouth action for the first 15 mins. At the least the young players had settle in okay, with Graham Webster having a few good touches. But as Dundee were starting to look dangerous Stirling scored Rab Douglas made a good diving save but Mullen followed up to score from the rebound. Dundee then change and put Bartlett back to left back and moved Forsyth further forward. It worked and Dundee looked more dangerous going forward, and Harkins was unlucky with a shot which hit the post.

Into the second half and Dundee started well and McIntosh forced Reidford into a diving save, then O'Donnell was unlucky when his shot came back off the bar. But the goal did come in 49 minutes when a good run from Forsyth and then found Leighton McIntosh who placed the ball into the corner for a well taken goal. Dundee's tails were up but they could not find the killer touch in front of goal. Stirling give them their dues still tried to push forward but Dundee's defence kept them out. Our best chance fell to Kyle Benedictus but his header was way off target from 15 yards out.

So in the end a point is good considering the young team that were playing. It also meant that Stirling Albion were relegated so only at worse is a playoff spot for Dundee this season. But 4 more points might be enough to avoid that.

Dundee 1 Dunfermline Ath 1, Dens Park, Division One, 22-March-11

Dundee started the game without Stephen O'Donnell who failed a fitness test, but Craig McKeown plays. Up front we start with Leighton McIntosh and trialist Jake Hyde, on the bench is fellow trialist Craig Robertson. Dundee started well and took the game to the pars, but after fine open play they could only gets shots in from the edge of the box, the best chance fell to Forsyth but his shot failed to trouble Smith in the Dunfermline goal. But as happens often the visitors took the lead when Burke scored  from way out with a well struck shot, he could have been closed down quicker but a good goal. Soon after and more neat play saw Irvine have a chance but his shot was straight at the keeper.

Second half and Dundee attacked and Jake Hyde just about scored when good play from Harkins and McIntosh put  him clear and his lob on goal was well finger tipped over the bar by Smith. Soon after and Rhys Weston took a heavy looking knock after being fouled by Buchanan he tried to carry on but had to go off. Robertson came on with Benedictus moving back and Gary Irvine back to right back. Dunfermline were looking to kill off the game and looked dangerous a few time but good defending kept them out. But with 19 mins to go Dundee won a free kick and when Harkins
curled it into the box Jake Hyde scored with a neat header to level the game. Again Dens went wild with deelight. The Pars pushed forward but they lacked the finishing touch, we  did have a chance late on but a Harkins  free kick went harmlessly over the bar.

So another point in the battle to stay up, well played again to the players. The fans were again top class, it's great going to DFC games this season. Big game on Saturday v Cowdenbeath just hope Rhys Weston's injury is not too bad, l think he might miss the game.

Falkirk 2 Dundee 2, New Falkirk Stadium, Division One, 20-March-11

Dundee came back from being 2-0 down to grab a vital point, on which their second half performance they deserved it. In a nice sunny day the wind did make it difficult. In the first half Falkirk took control of the game and Rab Douglas had to look sharp a few times, before the bairns took the lead on 27 minutes, a long ball to the back post was headed back and Tam McManus scored with a good volley which gave Douglas no chance. For the remaining period of the half we battled away without creating much.

Second half and Dundee started to take the game to Falkirk and played some neat football, but in one such move broke down and Falkirk broke away they neatly fed in Stewart who beat Douglas to make it 2-0. Dundee came back and got a break when a great run from Riley his pass found Gary Irvine to score his first goal for the club. Now Falkirk looked nervous and Dundee pushed them back. Harkins was getting into great positions but his final ball or shot was not happening. Then it was party time for the Dundee fans when great play from Riley again he passed to Craig Forsyth who came in and finished well to tie the game at 2-2. Then the tiring Leighton McInatosh was replaced by Connor Rennie. There was only going to be one winner now but Falkirk managed to hold on. A big blow for their promotion hopes. Dundee what can you say This Team never gives up, and keep on surprising even me, they deserve everything they get. Also forgot to mention Rhys Weston's life saving tackle second half if there is a better defender in this division well I've not seen him yet. I also though Nicky Riley had his best game for the dee, and Leighton McInatosh done really well.

Latest News From Dens Park

Sean Higgins will be out for a the rest of the season after having a knee operation, the slight injury has proved to be worse than first thought. It's a blow as he has done really well since Leigh Griffiths left the club. With Jonny Stewart has gone back to his club Hearts. So we are struggling to field a team with no proven strikers. Young Leighton McInatosh is also out injured. I think Connor Rennie will come in on Saturday, unless manager Barry Smith pulls off another trialist.

Dundee 2 Queen of the South 1, Dens Park, Division One, 12-March-11

Dundee became record breakers on Saturday as they beat the clubs longest run of league games unbeaten. A day of wind and rain greeted the teams as they came out. With Craig McKeown returning and Neil McCann playing his last game as a trialist. Dundee did start the game fairly well but Queen's were blocking everything that fell to the Dundee forward line. The best chance fell to Harkins but his shot was off target. As some times happens Queen's broke away and scored a simple goal when after good play McMenamin had a simple tap in. Dundee pushed forward but had to settle for 1-0 down at half time.

Dundee started the second half in positive fashion, and soon had chances best falling to Riley who's fierce shot tested Hutton, then McCann had a couple of efforts but just lacked the pace to trouble the keeper. The Doonhamers did have a chance when they broke away but Wetherston took a touch too much and went down after Douglas's challenge he was booked for diving. But the equaliser did follow soon after when great link up play set up Sean Higgins who finished it with a curling well placed shot. Now is was all Dundee as they went for the winner, they pumped loads of cross in Higgins missed a great chance from 8 yards but did not connect with the ball. Then Lockwood fired one just over. but the got the winner with just 4 minutes left more great one touch football led to O'Donnell who's shot hit the bar, Craig Forsyth followed up to head the rebound home to sent Dens Park wild. They kept their cool Holmes headed wide near the end, but it's was Dundee's day and another vital 3 points.

It's been a pleasure to watch this team over the last 20 games 14 wins and 6 draws well done to everyone from Dens Park from Top to Bottom and my fellow Dees.

Neil McCann is likely to play his third and last game for Dundee, Graham Bayne has joined Dunfermline so won't be involved. Craig McKeown will return after missing Cowdenbeath on Tuesday due to suspension.

The deadline for the CVA to be cleared has passed with nobody appealing, so now the club can move forward and the process in paying off the creditors begins.

Cowdenbeath 1 Dundee 3, Central Park, Division One, 12-March-11

On a wet windy night in Fife Dundee made it 19 games undefeated to equal the club's record. They were made to fight for it and the third goal killed the game. First goal came form Sean Higgins who had a simple tap in, after good play from Forsyth. Second half and Dundee got a penalty on 46 minutes when Riley was bundled off the ball, it did look soft. But up stepped Matt Lockwood to sidefoot home with ease. Cowdenbeath did pull one back to make things tight, Dundee had chances as well three one on ones with the keeper but they missed the lot. But with 6minutes to go a great cross from Johnny Stewart was headed home by Craig Forsyth to seal the 3 points. Trialist Graham Bayne played the full 90 mins and done well.

So another three vital points for the club. Hope they can break the record on Saturday when Queen of the South visit Dens Park.

Partick Th 0 Dundee 0. Firhill, Division One, 05-March-11

As the scoreline suggests not much action or football played on a terrible playing surface. Dundee had trialist Graham Bayne done well when he came on for Johnny Stewart. At least it was a nice sunny day in Maryhill, both teams had few chances and best fell to Higgins but he shot wide. In the second half we did scored but the ref gave a free kick after keeper Fox was fouled.

But overall poor stuff, but not easy on the pitch, as usual the players gave 100% effort and keeps the unbeaten run going Cowdenbeath on Tuesday. So that will equal a record set 49 years ago of most undefeated league game if they win or draw at central park.

News From Dens Park

The Dundee players will get much needed rest this week, with no midweek game. Next up is Partick Thistle at Firhill I will make the game travelling through with The Fife Dark Blues, so looking forward to that.

It looks like the Dundee Derby Fund Raiser will be now played preseason, refunds are available from Dens if you want to. I just hope I'm off work for it.

Dundee 1 Morton 1, Dens Park, Division One, 26/February/11

Dundee started with the same team that won at Raith on Tuesday night. No place in the squad for Neil McCann. Dundee started brightly and forced Morton back the first real chance fell to Higgins but his shot was high and wide of the target. Morton looked dangerous on the break and Rab Douglas had to look sharp to make a good diving save. The goal did come on 25 mins when a good one-two from Gary Harkins fell nicely to Sean Higgins and the inform striker finished with a low drive to give the Dark Blues the lead. Dundee pushed for a second and Nicky Riley done well to get a shot in which the ton keeper saved well, but the ball would not fall right for the winger. Both teams attacked but no more scoring in a even kind of half.

Second half and again Dundee push forward with Forsyth shooting wide from a good position, back came Morton and exdee Derek Lyle forced Douglas into a good save. Morton were coming into the game now and they did level matters when after some slack defensive play lead to a corner it was headed clear only to be played back in to fall kindly to Jenkin's who shot home pass the helpless Douglas from six yards.

That was that it ended 1-1 each, a draw was fair Dundee looked a bit tired and flat today. But they have kept their unbeaten run going and we Dundee fans are happy with the efforts they have put in.

Raith Rovers 1 Dundee 2, Starks Park, Division One, 22/February/11

Dundee produced another fine result on Tuesday night defeating Raith Rovers 2-1 at Starks Park. What l can gather from reports it was a well deserved win, with Dundee well on top throught out the game. They took the lead on 33 mins when a forward run from Forsyth who fed Sean Higgins and he slipped the under McNeill to score. Second half and Rovers drew level when Walker netted from a well taken free kick. But four minutes later and Dundee got what proved to be the winner, Gary Harkins moved forward and his pass let Forsyth get to the byeline his cross was low and hard it hit a raith defender's hand but Sean Higgins flicked the ball home before Ref Brines could point to the spot. Craig Robertson did play from the start and by reports he done really well.

So another great result and l will look forward to seeing the highlights on DFC.TV. It's great being a Dundee fan just now at work where they can't say a thing...Long may it continue.

News From Dens Park...

Dundee play league leaders Raith Rovers at Starks Park on Tuesday night, it looks like Neil McCann will miss it due to a leg strain. A bonus for Dundee is Lochee United letting Craig Robertson join the Dark Blues for three games. Craig is a massive DFC fan who gave the club much of his testimonial match fund which was a massive gesture. Missing will be suspended Gary Irvine with Johnthon Stewart set to replace him. I will miss the game due to work.

Stirling Albion 0 Dundee 1, Forthbank, Division One,19/February/11

Dundee started the game at Forthbank on Saturday with Neil McCann up front. The first half was a even affair with both teams playing some neat football. The first real chance fell to Stirling a Smith header was heading in, but Riley had time to kick it off the line to clear the danger. Dundee then went up the park to open the scoring when good wing play set up Matt Lockwood's who crossed a great ball in to Sean Higgins who scored with a header. That made the big Dundee support back their team even more. Back came Stirling and from a free kick Rab Douglas produced a great one handed save to deny Aitken. So that was the half time score, so far so good. The only down point was the soft booking of McKeown and Weston they seemed very soft to me.

Second half now and much the same vein Dundee looking comfy and likely to add to their lead, but after 62 mins a two footed tackle from defender Gary Irvine gave Ref Brian Winter no option but to sent him off. Straight away Manager Barry Smith took off Neil McCann off to be replaced by Jonathan Stewart. Stirling came forward as Dundee's backs were now to the wall, they defended well with everyone tracking back to cover. Best chance fell to Doyle who's curling shot was well saved by Rab Douglas. So a big relief at full time another amazing result for this team who's work rate and commitment is the best I have seen for years. So well done lads also the big Dundee support who backed the team superbly.

Neil McCann may feature again at Stirling on Saturday, he can play three games as a trialist. Rumour has it that ex-Barnet striker Jake Hyde is at dens this week.

Dundee 2 Raith Rovers 1, Dens Park, Division One, 12/February/11

Dundee came back from 1-0 down to snatch the 3 points against league leaders Raith Rovers at Dens Park this afternoon. In a evenly contested first half saw both teams creat chances, Dundee's best were from a neat pass from Harkins put O'Donnell through but keeper McNeil saved well, and later a Harkins shot which tested the keeper once more. Raith looked dangerous and came close a few times.

Second half and Raith took control of the game and pushed Dundee back. It was no surprize when they scored when Murray headed home from a corner, they went for the killer second goal and came close a few times. With good defending kept them out. Dundee changed things and Neil McCann came on to replace Stewart and play up front, with Harkins moving back to midfield. It did the trick as Dundee looked more comfy. Craig McKeown then came close with a fierce low drive from 25 yards that shaved the outside of the post. Raith looked comfy and made changes to maybe sit on what they had.

Then with 6-7 minutes to go Dundee won a freekick about 30 yards out up stepped captain Gary Harkins to score with a wonder strike right in the top corner to level the match at 1-1 to send the Dundee fans wild. This really changed the flow of the game as Dundee pushed for the winner, and it came deep into injury time when after a pass back from a Raith player to his keeper was punished. From it Rovers cleared to give away a corner which Forsyth took, it was cleared as far as Lockwood who's high cross was headed down by Forsyth to Neil McCann who spun to hook the ball high towards the goal, it dipped enought to go just under the bar and into the net to send Dens Park crazy. Neil McCann ran towards the south enclosure to celebrate, and was mobbed by his team mates.

Raith had only time to kick off before the the final whistle was blown, what a feeling that was with Dundee fans still singing dancing it was a great comeback to keep our home record going.

Queen of the South 1 Dundee 2, Palmerstone Park, Division One, 05/February/11

Dundee kept their unbeaten run of league games going with a hard fought win at Palmerstone home of Queen of the South on Saturday, never a good place for Dundee in the past 25 years or so. They did not play at their best , but took their chances and defended well.

In the first half most of the play was from Queens who came close a few times, Dundee's first chance came when Matt Lockwood took a free kick but Hutton was equal to it saving well. Then against the run of play Dundee scored good play on the wing and Tom Brighton's cross fell to Harkins who's shot was blocked, the ball fell to Craig Forsyth who drilled the ball home to give Dundee the lead. Queens had a chance on half time but it was well cleared.
Second half and much the same vein with Queens attacking and Dundee defending well. Johnston tested Douglas with a curling shot but Rab held on well to make a good save, minutes later and Forsyth hit the post after Riley had picked him out with a cross. A minute later and Queens were level when McGuffie headed home a Johnston cross to give Douglas no chance. Dundee then made a change with trialist Greacen replacing Jonny Stewart. Keeping the 4-4-2 formation Rhys Weston moved into central midfield. It proved successful as Greacen won most long balls Queens put in, and Dundee scored again soon after and it proved to be the winner. Good play from Nicky Riley and when a shot was blocked and spun high in the air he jumped to win the header which fell to Sean Higgins who's bicycle kick ended up in the net with Hutton stunned, the keeper did not even move. Wild celebration's followed from the Dundee fans who's long wait for a win here was about to happen.

Dundee held on to claim three more vital points and with Stirling losing 3-1 at home to Raith it moved the Dark Blues off the bottom of the league. So happy Dundee fans heading home tonight.

News From Dens Park...

Dundee should have a full squad for the visit of Falkirk to Dens Park. Matt Lockwood will return after illness, Tom Brighton should play again with Leigh Griffiths set to say farewell before his transfer to Wolves. Sean Higgins will miss out due to his red card last week.

Jocky Scott has been appointed as Stirling Albion manager, our ex player/manager gets my best wishes apart when we play them. It will add some spice to the fixture.

Dundee Earn Vital Draw at East End Park

Dunfermline Ath 0 Dundee 0, East End Park, Division One, 15/January/11

Dundee earned a vital point at East End Park on Saturday with a hard fought 0-0 draw. With Leigh Griffiths in England with Wolves over a future transfer deal, manager Barry Smith played trialist Tom Brighton, the ex Clyde, Millwall and St Mirren striker done well by reports. I missed the game due to work so can't comment too much. I seen the highlights on DFCTV so the team done well. The only down point was losing Sean Higgins to a second booking early in the second half. He has to maybe calm down a bit as our squad is not big enough for that just now.
The reports also say the Dundee fans backed the team superbly as they have done so since administration. I think everyone has pulled together and say we can do this.... And Together we will.

Dundee 0 Motherwell 4, Dens Park, Scottish Cup 4th Rd, 09/January/10

In this Scottish Cup 4th Rd tie at Dens Park Dundee were well beaten by 4 goals to nil. Motherwell got off to the perfect start scoring early through ex-dee John Sutton on 3 minutes when he shot past Rab Douglas after Murphy done well on the wing. Dundee did come into it and Griffiths was unlucky when he was ruled offside he looked on to me. Motherwell's midfield done a good job on giving Dundee's midfield no room to create much.

Second half and with my thoughts we got to half time and still only 1-0... lets have a go...but Motherwell got their vital second goal when again John Sutton scored with a cool finish on 47 minutes. After this The Well were happy to sit on their lead and hit on the break. Leigh Griffiths was really unlucky when he hit the bar from a free kick which took a big defection from a well player. Soon after Sean Higgins went in with a wreckless tackle which ended up players getting booked on either side. Dundee had a few chance but failed to take them and Motherwell killed the game with a good goal Jennings scoring with a well placed header from a corner on 81 minutes. And to complete the scoring Murphy scored for the steelmen with another cool finish.

Dundee tried their best today, maybe just a off day for them. The league will be more important now, so starting with Dunfermline next week the focus will be on to get more points to close the gap at the bottom.

Dundee 2 Ross County 0, Dens Park, Division One, 03/January/2011

Dundee kept their unbeaten run under Barry Smith with a hard fought tussle with Ross County on Sunday. The low point was the injury to Darren McCormack who suffered a broken ankle after a tackle involving Craig Forsyth who was blameless things like that happen in football and we all hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Dundee started the game very well and after a sweeping move involving Irvine, Higgins, and Griffiths who set up Craig Forsyth who shot over when really he should have scored. The game swung from end to end and Ross County had a couple of shots which were too close for comfort. But Dundee kept their shape at the back and got their reward on 28 mins when Forsyth made a run into the box and was tackled from behind to which the ref gave a penalty. Up stepped Matt Lochwood and he gave the staggies keeper no chance with a high placed shot hit with some venom. Then not long after that Forsyth made a great run to the byeline and when he hit the ball across the goal it just needed a touch to make it 2-0.
Second half now and the game started at much the same vain, but after just 5 mins McCormack clashed in a tackle with Forsyth in which straight away you knew it was a bad injury. A full 7 minutes of treatment was needed. The game then got a bit nasty with some wreckless tackles going in and in one 5 minute spell 5 players were booked. But at least Dundee players kept their composure, and played some nice one touch football. Ross County did miss a great chance when Barrowman headed wide when it looked easier to score.

Dundee wrapped up the points when after great play in a flowing move started by Harkins and with some clever play led to a wee chip from Griffiths putting Harkins into the box and he finished with a fine shot. In the final few minutes County sub Kettlewell got his second yellow card with another needless tackle. So that was that another three points. Next week we have the Scottish Cup tie v Motherwell to look forward to, and live on SKY with a 13:15pm kick-off.

Award for Leigh as well...

Leigh Griffiths was named young player of the month, he has been in great form lately. Sadly for us Dundee FC fans he will likely be sold to ease the club forward, and out of administration. I just hope we get a decent fee for him, but l feel he might have to go to England for that to happen.

Barry Smith and More News

Dundee's Barry Smith is manager of the month for November, after a nine game unbeaten run which have seen the Dark Blues go up the table. No matter what happens with the appeal you can't fault the spirit at Dens Park.

The Boxing Day game at Queen of the South has been called off due to a frozen pitch. Our next game is on January 2nd 2011 when Ross County come to Dens Park.
