Dundee Sign Hart and Higgins................

Dundee manager Jocky Scott has signed Ross County's Richie Hart and Sean Higgins on two-year deals, the pair moving under freedom of contract. Higgins, 24, will add to Scott's striking options next season at Dens Park, while former Inverness player Hart will bolster the Dees' midfield. Hart began his senior career at County in 1996 before moving to Brora Rangers in 1999, where he spent three seasons. He signed for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and made 141 appearances for the Highlanders, then moved back to Ross County in 2008.

Dundee took the lead after 32 seconds through Darren Young, after Andrew Shinnie's corner from the right wasn't properly cleared. With nothing else in his thoughts but to let fly, his effort from 20 yards took a fair deflection off a Thistle defender on its way into the net, beyond the despairing dive of Jags keeper Jon Tuffey.Having finished a close second in the league, Thistle had also wanted to finish with a flurry for the sake at least of their travelling support, albeit Marc Twaddle's downward header from a Paul Paton cross was about all they had to show for their efforts before the break. And they fell further behind when Dundee struck again in 34 minutes.It was simple stuff, with Canadian Chris Pozniak releasing McMenamin who kept his cool before rounding Tuffey before slotting home from an angle.Dundee dominated after the break and deserved to extend their lead still further in 69 minutes when McMenamin stole a yard on his marker to convert Bryan Deasley's near-post cross. Then, with 15 minutes left, McMenamin completed the rout as he calmly picked his spot to leave Tuffey helpless from 12 yards. Ludo Roy and Freddie Daquin came on late to say their goodbyes to the home support.

Bids Accepted....................

Dundee have had bids accepted by First Division rivals Livingston for Dave MacKay and Murray Davidson. Both men will now have to decide whether they would be interested in a switch to Tayside. It would be the second spell at Dens Park for full-back MacKay, 29, who spent six years there before joining Oxford United in 2005. Midfielder Davidson, 21, came through the youth system at Almondvale, making his first-team debut last season. A number of other clubs have also indicated their interest in signing the Livingston duo. Rumour says they were both at Dens yesterday for talks.

Dundee have had a six-figure bid rejected by First Division rivals Livingston for striker Leigh Griffiths.The Dens Park club on Thursday submitted a written offer for the 18-year-old despite having had a verbal offer refused 24 hours earlier.Griffiths, who has scored 18 goals so far this season, trained recently with English Premier League club West Brom.Experienced Defender Jim Lauchlan yesterday signed a new one-year contract with Dundee.And last night the 32-year-old spoke of his pleasure and relief at extending his stay at Dens Park.In addition to re-signing Lauchlan, Scott has given frontman Bryan Deasley and defender Craig Forsyth new two-year contracts.Deasley’s future had seemed in a little doubt because while he’d started six games on the bounce after Scott returned to the club, he then found himself on the fringes of the first-team for a spell, only starting to feature again, generally as a substitute, in the closing weeks of the campaign.Forsyth (20) has spent much of the present campaign on-loan to Arbroath.

Dundee manager Jocky Scott has started his squad rebuilding for next season after announcing that four first-team players are leaving Dens Park. Ludovic Roy, Freddie Daquin, David O'Brien and Bob Davidson are all to leave when their contracts expire. Goalkeeper Roy joined from Livingston in 2006, while winger Daquin enjoyed spells at Hibs and Dunfermline. Winger O'Brien signed from Stirling Albion in 2007 and defender Davidson joined from Rangers at the same time. The Dens Park board have confirmed that an extra 25% on this season's transfer budget will be made available to Scott. And the board pledged that the club will match pound-for-pound season tickets bought by fans.

Dundee lost this game to a battling Clyde side, they went behind in 53mins when Andrew Shinnie deflected a shot into his own net. With 13 mins to go Willie McLaren scored from a tight angle which beat Rab Douglas. But sadly for The Bully Wee, Partick Th scored a late goal to seal Clyde fate to the Second Division.

For the trip to Clyde tomorrow Dundee have injury problems. Definitely out are suspended pair Mikael Antoine-Curier and Gary MacKenzie, along with the injured Eric Paton, Craig McKeown and Paul McHale. Doubts of varying degrees also hang over Colin Cameron, David Cowan, Mark Gilhaney, Giorgios Efrem and Darren Young. Steven Milne gave St Johnstone the most perfect of starts, poking a shot home after only two minutes following a great move between Collin Samuel and Gary Irvine which saw the latter try to shoot from an acute angle but succeed instead in teeing up his team-mate perfectly. Effectively, that first goal ended the contest because, despite Dundee's words of defiance pre-match, nothing much materialised from them and Dens Park manager Jocky Scott was left in no doubt about the size of rebuilding job required before next season.Goalkeeper Rab Douglas, one player who will remain in place next season, denied Saints several times with particularly good saves preventing Milne from adding another and then turning a Liam Craig free-kick round the post. He was also fortunate to see St Johnstone captain Kevin Rutkiewicz miss a routine header seconds before half-time. Dundee's enigmatic striker Mickael Antoine-Curier, often their best chance of a goal but, on the flip side, a liability when not in the mood, killed off any hopes his side had of getting back into the contest after the interval by hitting Martin Hardie with a crude elbow. A goal from Darren Young guided Dundee to victory despite the visitors having been on the back-foot for long spells.Livingston created the best chance of the first half when Liam Fox hit the woodwork from 25 yards and the same player repeated the trick on the hour.Dundee took the lead seconds later when Young knocked in the rebound after Roddy McKenzie produced a stunning save to deny Mickael Antoine-Curier. The Dees win was slightly tainted when Gary MacKenzie was sent off late on.

Simon Lynch scored the only goal as Airdrie picked up three points in a dire game with Dundee at Dens Park. Dundee made a bright start but Airdrie made note of their intent when John Baird's dipping effort went just over the bar after 16 minutes.Lynch did the damage after 18 minutes, cashing in on poor defending to fire low past Rab Douglas from eight yards. Colin Cameron and Darren Young are back in training, and will be in the squad which travels to Dingwall on Friday night. Missing will be on loan pair Andrew Shinnie and Georgio Efrem who are both away on international duty.

Dundee have appointed one of Scotland’s richest and most successful business men as a new director at Dens Park. Calum Melville who, along with his brother Stuart, is reported to be worth in the region of £100 million and who has worked extensively in the oil industry, has joined the board. The new man is married with three children and based in Aberdeen, and Dundee see him as bringing a wealth of business experience to the board. He’s been involved in a string of successful business ventures over the past 20 years, the most recent being the sale of gtc group, in which he and his brother held a 90% stake, to Cosalt PLC in 2007. Melville is the managing director of Cosalt Offshore and intends to continue in this role as well as pursuing several ongoing business interests in commercial property, residential property, hotels and the oil and gas service sector.

In what was a game l missed and only seen the second half in my local pub, down seeing my Dad who has just had a hip replacement.Both sides struggled to cope with a stiff swirling wind but Partick were first to threaten when Paul Paton unleashed a long range shot which forced a diving save from Rab Douglas.At the other end an angled Mickael Antoine-Curier shot flashed wide before Thistle produced a fine move.Stephen McKeown and Lucas Akins were involved in creating space for the lively Kris Doolan whose netbound shot had Douglas diving to his left to claw the effort behind.The home side continued to dominate but Dundee delivered a sucker punch by going ahead in 37 minutes with their first shot on target. Andrew Shinnie was the provider with a neat pass to the unmarked McMenamin who calmly rolled the ball through the legs of Jonny Tuffey.The setback appeared to throw Thistle completely off their stride while the visitors grew in confidence on the restart.They could have doubled their lead when McMenamin exposed a moment's hesitation to pick out Antoine-Curier but the Gaudeloupe striker was off-balance as he shot wide.Then Andrew Shinnie's corner picked out Gary MacKenzie whose header flashed inches wide.Giorgis Efrem was next to threaten with a dipping 20 yard effort that Tuffey could only parry.Thistle refused to throw in the towel and were rewarded when Simon Storey's cross was headed home by substitute McKinlay.There was still time for Tuffey to deny Shinnie with a superb save while Doolan fired narrowly over for Partick as the game drew to a close.

Dundee 2 Ross County 0, Dens Park, First Division, 14/March/09

If Dundee feared they were about to dropping out of the Division One title race after their midweek defeat to Queen of the South, their season received renewed hope yesterday with a crucial home victory. Jocky Scott's side swatted aside Ross County with goals from Colin McMenamin and Mickael Antoine-Curier to make up some ground on leaders St Johnstone, who again faltered. Dundee now lie seven points behind with a game in hand, so, along with just like fellow promotion candidates Partick Thistle and Livingston, will feel the door has opened again further this weekend. Although Craig Brewster caused Rab Douglas some unnecessary problems with a header early on in the game, it took until 25 minutes for the first real opportunity to be created. With the wind causing havoc to the players' attempts at crossing, it was a miracle that Andrew Shinnie was able to pick out Mickael Antoine-Curier with a free-kick but his delivery deserved better from the Frenchman, who blazed a free header over from six yards. Dundee were far more potent in an attacking sense, although Mickael Antoine-Curier blazed a free header over the and could have had a penalty on the half hour when Eddie Malone was brought down inside the area, but Mike McCurry, the referee, waved away their protests. Any ire they had about that decision was extinguished two minutes later when they took the lead, McMenamin showing great bravery to attack Eric Paton's cross from the right with a diving header into the net., gave Antoine-Curier a lesson in how it should be done and got his reward for quick thinking when the ball flew past Joe Malin. After being refused what looked a watertight penalty earlier in the game, Dundee were handed a soft-looking one right on half-time. Antoine-Curier jostled for the ball with Andy Dowie on the right-hand side of the box and seemed to just throw himself down looking for the award. McCurry was swayed this time and the striker dispatched the kick dead ball past County goalkeeper Joe Malin. County had an opportunity to pull one back on 72 minutes when Richard Hart was afforded a free header inside the area, but Douglas saved well with both hands.

A great win for Dundee, they likely played better on Tuesday, but given the windy conditions I'm glad of the 3 points. The big bonus is St.Johnstone got beat so it opens it up again. We still need to take it one game at a time and keep winning.

Andrew Shinnie has been called up for the Scotland U21's, he has played very well for us lately. He will missed the away games at Ross County and Dunfermline. Giorgos Efrem has also been called up for the friendly v Georgi and will miss the Ross County game as well. Dundee had hoped that he would be excused seeing it was only a friendly. However the Cyprus FA are standing firm.

Dundee 2 Queen of the South 3, Dens Park. First Division, 10/March/09

Dundee had made an ultra positive start against Queens, with Freddie Daquin at the heart of their attempts to establish an early lead. The Frenchman went close with a volley from the edge of the area then turned provider for Giorgos Efrem with a smart cutback. Efrem left Lee Robinson rooted to the spot as he turned the ball goalwards at pace, but it cannoned back off the inside of the upright and, when the Cypriot winger sought to net the rebound, his powerful drive hit Antoine-Curier and flew to safety. Unfortunately, neither Daquin nor the Dark Blues could sustain that level of performance and as both faded QoS started to find their way. The visitors looked unfortunate to be denied a penalty when David Cowan seemed to block a Stephen Dobbie shot with his hands. But they struck with three minutes of the first-half remaining when Barry Wilson was able to meet, unchallenged, a high hanging Paul Burns cross to direct a volley across Rab Douglas and in at the far post. Dundee levelled on 54 minutes thanks to a superb strike from Antoine-Curier who had three defenders in close attendance as he received the ball on the 18 yard line. However, he patiently worked enough of an opening to let loose a powerful shot that Robinson got a hand to but couldn’t keep out. Nine minutes later, though, the home side conceded another soft goal—Dobbie being allowed to burst in from their left flank and somehow drill the ball into the far corner from an unlikely angle. Another quality finish from Antoine-Curier on 68 minutes, surging into the box, drawing Robinson and slotting the ball away, hauled the home side back into things. With 15 minutes left, Dundee got caught out again by more weak defending. Douglas pulled off a terrific save, turning a netbound long-range Dobbie volley over the bar, although from the resulting Ryan McCann corner Martyn Lancaster rose almost unchallenged to power in a header that Douglas touched onto the post but couldn’t keep out.

A very poor result for our promotion push, we missed Colin Cameron a lot. But overall we played well. But we lost silly soft goals, we must now win every game now to have any chance.

St.Johnstone 0 Dundee 0, McDiarmid Park, First Division, 28/February/09.

Dundee failed to break down St.Johnstone on Saturday, the fans were asked to come early and I was in the ground at 14:15. Which was a bit of a shock for me,but seeing I was working that night it was understandable. In what was a good start by Dundee forcing a few corners but nothing came of them. The ball was up in the air too much as both teams cancelled each other out. McMenamin could have scored from a Antoine-Curier cross, but the ball was too behind him and saints cleared. Only other note was a Andrew Shinnie shot which just went over Main's cross bar. Saints had chances as well, but thought Milne took a dive in the box. My view is the ref was right. The second half was more of the same with few chances, and nobody able to get on the end of crosses and corners. The only save Main had was a shot by Shinnie which was deflected towards the goal, which he pushed away for a corner. So it ended 0-0 which was about fair overall.

In what was a poor game the only bonus was that we did not get beat, with Partick Th winning at least it puts pressue on St.Johnstone. Special word for the Dundee fans who turned up in great numbers....pity we could not get that winning goal.

Dundee 4 Livingston 1, Dens Park, First Division, 21/February/09

Dundee produced a sensational second-half display to secure victory over Livingston. Livingston dominated much of the first period but failed to make their pressure tell the half ended goalless. And how did they miss the two chances that fell to One.The hosts were a different side in the second half and took the lead in the 48th minute through Andrew Shinnie and what a goal is was a 30 yarder high into the net, then after a great ball from McHale putting Georgios Efrem through to score with ease extended their lead. Mickael Antoine-Curier's volley made it 3-0 after another great pass from McHale, and the Frenchman also grabbed the fourth before Livingston managed a late consolation from Raffaele De Vita.

The game at Ross County was called off on Friday, the pitch failed a morning inspection. Due to snow and ice, Dens is also under snow. Manager jocky Scotts will take no more interest in the trialist left back who played against the Scotland Under 21's, he will keep a eye on the striker who needs to get back to match fitness after injury.

Livingston 1 Dundee 2, Almondvale, First Division, 07/February/09

Dundee revived their lingering promotion prospects with a hard-fought victory over Livingston. And in 77 seconds they took the lead when Mickael Antoine-Curier, fired past Roddy McKenzie. The French striker missed a great chance when he shot just wide. Giorgis Efrem made it two after 33 minutes, the on-loan Rangers midfielder firing in from an Eric Paton cross. Tony McParland pulled one back with a superbly struck second-half free-kick, but Leigh Griffiths was sent off with 13 minutes remaining. Dundee also had chances second half and could haved added to the score line.

A massive result for Dundee, and a great performance from the whole team. What a difference Colin Cameron and Giorgis Efrem made, we could have scored 5 or 6 in the first half alone. A pity St.Johnstone got a draw, but it's what we do that matters. Our next 3 games will make or break our season.

BBC Alba will screen live television coverage of three Scottish First Division matches this season. The matches will have Sunday afternoon kick-offs, and an announcement regarding the end-of-season play-off matches is expected later. Dundee will be on Sunday 22nd of March v Partick Thistle with a 15:15 kick-off.

Eddie Mearns has left the Club after his contract was terminated on transfer deadline day - this will allow Eddie to sign for a new club at any time.

Dundee manager Jocky Scott has handed extended deals to defender Craig McKeown and midfielder Paul McHale. The pair have been signed for a further two and a half years at Dens Park. McHale began his career at Rangers and had spells at Cowdenbeath and Clyde.

Dundee have signed Cypriot youth international Georgios Efrem on loan from Rangers until the summer. The 19-year-old winger will begin training with his new team-mates on Monday after watching Saturday's 2-1 win over Clyde in Division One.

Dundee moved to within seven points of leaders St.Johnstone with this win over Clyde. The visitors had the better of the first half and took the lead through Willie McLaren, but Dundee, who have found goals virtually impossible to come by this season, stunned the Bully Wee with strikes from Colin McMenamin and Mickael Antoine-Curier. Rab Douglas, Dundee's goalkeeper, signed a new two-year deal with the club on Friday and showed his worth within two minutes by clawing away a McLaren shot which looked destined for the bottom left-hand corner. McLaren was not to be denied, though, as he scored the opener on 12 minutes. Dundee's Eric Paton, tried to knock the ball across his own 18-yard line, giving McLaren the opportunity to chip a shot over Douglas from the edge of the area. Dundee had offered virtually nothing in an attacking sense but equalised with their first moment of real quality. Mark Gilhaney, recalled to the team for the first time since October, sent in a delightful ball for McMenamin, who flicked a header beyond David Hutton. Amazingly, Dundee turned the game on its head three minutes later as Antoine-Curier burst through on goal before lashing the ball into the bottom corner. In what was a poor second half with both keepers having not much to do save wise. We just need to create more chances and our wingers must get more crosses into the box, also a fit Colin Cameron will be a massive boost. A very good 3 points and may prove a turning point in our season.

Dundee boss Jocky Scott continued his planning for the future today when he fixed up the man he believes might be the best goalkeeper in the country right now on a new long-term contract. Rab Douglas has pledged his future to the Dark Blues until at least the summer of 2011. The 36-year-old former Scotland man’s performances since resurrecting his career by returning to Dens Park last summer on a one-year deal have attracted attention from elsewhere. Today, though, the big man stuck to his intention of seeing out his career as a Dark Blue when he penned his new deal.

Dundee have signed up Montrose goalkeeper Tony Bullock on a pre-contract agreement. Bullock, 36 left Ross County recently and is currently playing at Montrose until the end of the season, but will train full-time with the Dark Blues ahead of his summer move.

Eric Paton has signed a new 3 year deal at Dens Park , I see it as a massive boost as he has been one of the better players this season. Hopefully Rab Douglas and Gary McKeown follow suit. Manager Jocky Scott has done well retaining his services as rumours had it St.Johnstone were interested. Andrew Shinnie has signed now unti the end of the season. Eddie Mearns and Bob Davidson remain at the club, Clyde were linked with Davidson ans Mearns played a trial with Ayr United.

Airdrie United 1 Dundee 0, Excelsior Stadium, Irn Bru First Division, 24/January/09..

Dundee made changes Williams coming in for Antoine-Curier, and Benedictus replacing the injured Lauchlan. Dundee made the first attack with Daquin getting to the line , but his cross is cleared. The game was halted after three minutes when referee Brian Winter noticed that Dundee had two No.5 jerseys on the park and Kyle Benedictus had to leave the pitch to put on his allocated No.6 top.The match threatened to get off to an open start when McLachlan crossed for Di Giacomo and his drive forced a fine save from Rab Douglas. The ball was cleared to the other end and Colin McMenamin got in behind the Diamonds' defence, but he screwed his shot wide.Both teams saw this as a sign to close their opponents down and although Kevin McDonald had a drive deflected wide neither keeper was called into much action in the rest of the half.Airdrie came close to breaking the deadlock when Simon Lynch went on a solo run in 56 minutes and rattled Douglas' bar.Airdrie finally went ahead when Hazley sent in a free kick from the left low into the box where Lynch flicked the ball into the air and Di Giacomo ran in to volley it through Douglas' legs from seven yards out.Dundee tried to hit back and Eddie Malone crossed from the left for McMenamin but he headed straight into Robertson's arms. Airdrie came within inches of another goal when McKenna headed goalward where Eric Paton cleared off the line. Dundee did have a late chance but McHale's shot was blocked, it broke to McMenamin his shot also blocked with Airdrie being able to clear..and that was it as the full time whistle went..

I missed the game so can't comment too much on the performance, but I don't like the idea of one striker, we won't score enough goals playing tactics like this, the bottom line is the midfield is not good enough, the wingers don't deliver enough quality crosses in..and leaving Curier our top goal scorer on the bench is crazy..

Dundee 0 Morton 0, Dens Park, Irn Bru First Division, 17/January/09

Dundee were indebted to an inspired display from keeper Robert Douglas as they secured a draw against Morton. The ex-Scotland international was in tremendous form and pulled off three fantastic saves to keep Morton at bay. Masterton's first effort, a 20-yard dead ball, whizzed just wide on 15 minutes but as the clock ticked down he got even closer.Team-mate McGuffie then forced a save out of Douglas from 20 yards and the Dark Blues No 1 continued his heroics from the resultant corner to save a header from the visiting midfielder.The game was in Morton's hands at this stage but the home side could well have taken an undeserved lead on the half hour had Colin McMenamin reacted quicker to Mickael Antoine-Curier's rebounded 15-yard strike.Then, Masterton had two more free-kick efforts to trouble Dundee – one cracking off the base of the post and the other turned wide by Douglas.The second half followed much the same vein as the first with Douglas again underlining his worth with a fingertip save from Brian Wake on 59 minutes. Dundee's best chance of the game came in the 69th-minute when Mickael Antoine-Curier's shot was parried into the path of Colin McMenamin. However, the striker, blasted over an open goal from just six yards out.

Colin Cameron has joined Arbroath on loan for a month, a good move it will get his fitness up to speed quicker.

I missed the first 12 minutes due to the turnstyles not working, just in time to see Artur Boruc's fresh-air swipe in the 14th minute allowed Colin McMenamin to put the First Division side in front. It had been another blunder from the goalkeeper that handed the visitors a surprise lead early in the game. The Poland international looked well placed to deal with David O'Brien's long pass forward, but he completely mis-timed his attempted clearance, allowing McMenamin to knock the ball into an empty net. Boy did we enjoy the next 20 minutes leading the game.
Celtic continued to stutter when striker McDonald drove wide of the target and Brown headed a Shunsuke Nakamura free kick into the side-netting. McDonald had another shot that bounced off Jim Lauchlan's head before McGeady fired into the arms of former Parkhead keeper Rab Douglas from the rebound. The home side's increasing pressure paid off when the energetic Brown drove down the left and into the Dundee box before pulling the ball back to McDonald.
The Australian mis-hit his shot from 14 yards, but the ball ricocheted off several Dundee defenders to land in front of Brown, who stroked it home from close range. With the interval looming, McGeady eased the home fans' nerves when he cut in from the left and curled a wonderful shot from the edge of the box high past Douglas. A poor goal to give away..giving McGeady too much room and letting him cut inside.Celtic were more relaxed after the break and McGeady had another effort from 20 yards tipped over the bar by Douglas. Dundee were seldom seen as an attacking force, but McMenamin flashed a drive from 20 yards past the post on the hour mark to indicate a threat. Douglas was required to pull off a fine save from Vennegoor of Hesselink's drive after the Dutchman had been put through by Nakamura's incisive pass. McDonald then messed up another chance when he chipped over the crossbar from the edge of the box after neatly turning Lauchlan. Then in the last minute Boruc dropped the ball in his 6 yard box, but Antoine-Curier was on the wrong side. Time run out and we were out of the Scottish Cup.

It was a good day out in Glasgow, game wise the Dundee players gave their all , and could not ask for more. The fans were great and backed the team non stop.I would have given Antoine-Curier more time..at least the last 25minutes. Also pity about the size of the home support.

Dundee 1 Dunfermline Ath 0, Dens Park, Irn Bru First Division, 03/January/09.

DUNDEE gave their promotions cances a boost with a hard fought victory at Dens against Dunfermline. The Pars knew that, with their promotion rivals' match frozen off, they could cut the gap at the head of the table to only two points, but despite dominating possession could not see the game out. They did not deserve to lose, but didn't look like title winners – and left Dundee with nothing after Eric Paton's stunning free kick won the match. Despite enjoying the better of the play the visitors found Rab Douglas, the home keeper, in miserly form. Douglas saved well from Stephen Glass after 12 minutes, diving low to his left to block the long-range shot. He bettered that effort 60 seconds later, though, with a fine diving save after Andy Kirk met a Greg Ross delivery yards from goal. Dundee gradually emerged as an attacking force, with dead balls whipped in by Andrew Shinnie their most potent source. He played in an excellent free kick on 24 minutes but the Dark Blues had nobody willing to attack the ball. Given the lack of cutting edge for Dundee, it seemed likely that a dead ball would be their best chance of scoring and so it proved on 67 minutes. With Shinnie fouled on the edge of the box by Steven Bell, Dundee had a free-kick 20 yards out which Paton flicked over the wall and beyond Paul Gallacher into the top corner. The hosts should have doubled their lead minutes later when Freddy Daquin raced through on goal but he pulled his shot embarrassingly wide. And Dundee could have extended their lead when Colin McMenamin crashed the ball off Gallacher's left-hand post after a low cross from Freddie Daquin. Dunfermline did force a few corners near the end, but we survived it. God know how the ref added 6 minutes injury time!!

Dundee looked the more sure-footed against out-of-sorts Queens. It came as little surprise when the visitors seized the initiative after half an hour through Colin McMenamin as the striker pounced from a couple of yards out to force home David O'Brien's low strike from the angle of the box. Dundee were visibly buoyed and at times were allowed to stroke the ball about at their leisure as the home support turned on the Queens players. Stephen Dobbie tried to haul the hosts back into it with a couple of long-range shots which just missed the target. But it was Dundee who should have extended their lead just before the interval, only for O'Brien to shoot straight at Queens keeper Bryn Halliwell from 14 yards.Queens emerged a livelier outfit after the break. Dobbie went close again when he was just pipped to a through ball by Dundee keeper Rab Douglas, but the visitors remained a live threat on the break and Andrew Shinnie should have doubled their lead just after the hour when he ran clear on goal and rolled his shot past the post.Queens rallied towards the end, but an equaliser wouldn't have provided a fair reflection.

Dundee created two fantastic early chances but, in keeping with their luck in front of goal this season, neither were capitalised on. The first certainly should have been, as Bryan Deasley met David O'Brien's cutback 16 yards out, but he fired straight at goalkeeper Jon Tuffey. No blame could be apportioned for the second, though, as Mikael Antoine-Curierslammed a shot on target from 20 yards. Partick soon emerged as a force, though, and could have taken the lead on 12 minutes when Liam Buchanan rose inside the penalty area, but he directed his header wide.Buchanan was afforded another free header on 50 minutes when Simon Donnelly picked him out with a free kick. His header looked destined for the net until Jim Lauchlan got in to nod over his own bar.Partick defender Kevin McKinlay almost scored an own goal only seconds later when he looked set to bundle the ball in but managed to change his feet just in time, instead knocking the ball just wide. Douglas pulled off a sensational double save on 63 minutes to keep Partick out. A poor performance overall, and now we must start winning games. If it was not for Rab Douglas we would have dropped all 3 points.

Clyde 1 Dundee 0, Broadwood Stadium, First Division, 13/Dec/08

Clyde recorded a narrow win over Dundee in a match which both sides finished with 10 men. Following a scoreless first half, Clyde substitute Scott Gemmill set up Willie McLaren to score the winning goal in the 66th minute. Gemmill was sent off two minutes later after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession. Darren Young was red carded for the visitors four minutes from the end for a professional foul on Alan Trouten.

Dundee will play Celtic at parkhead in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup, the game will be played on the 10th of January 2009.

Saturdays game against Livingston has been called off, due to a frozen pitch. Livi have not used their undersoil heating. The will will be played on Wednesday night.

Kyle Benedictus is the IRN BRU Phenomenal Young Player of the Month for November. The youngster who made his debut and a further two appearances during the month before picking up a calf injury which has sidelined him for a month paid tribute to team-mate Jim Lauchlan for his help in settling into the first team squad "He’s been brilliant with me in training and is talking me through every day" said Kyle "We train together and he’s taken me step-by-step, telling me where to stand and how to defend in certain positions. He’s been a constant source of encouragement and I think working closely with him in training can only make me a better player." 

Jocky Scott has joined youngster Kyle Benedictus picking up an award for the month of November. Jocky has been awarded the IRN BRU Phenomenal Manager of the Month only a few days after Kyle was chosen as the Young Player of the Month. He only took over the club for his third spell in charge two days before the month started and was thrown into the deep end with a game against Airdrie United on the 1st. Since then he has guided Dundee to four games unbeaten. Meanwhile the game against Livi has been called off again, after a pitch inspection at 2pm. No new date has been arranged.

TWO managers at contrasting ends of the career spectrum pitted their wits against each other in a pulsating Tayside derby and emerged with honours even. Derek McInnes marked 12 months in charge at Perth with a draw to stretch St Johnstone's unbeaten sequence to 10 matches and extend their advantage to four points at the top of the table. But old hand Jocky Scott, clearly relishing his return to Dens Park, ensured his youthful rival's nerves were frayed as the Dark Blues attempted a courageous second half salvage job, having slipped behind to a 28th minute goal dispatched by Stevie Milne, a striker who was once lauded by home fans. Dave McKinnon Leaves Dens Park.............

Dundee chief executive Dave MacKinnon has confirmed his resignation and will leave Dens Park at the end of November. MacKinnon has been in the role for two and a half years. Last month, Jocky Scott returned as manager at Dundee for the third time and MacKinnon is confident that the First Division club is in good hands. With the appointment of Jocky Scott, the board now have someone with the experience, contacts and knowledge to take on the running of all football related matters.

Deal For Young Kyle, And Shinnie Joins On Loan..

Dundee manager Jocky Scott has rewarded teenage defender Kyle Benedictus with a new contract after his promotion to the top team. The 16-year-old has played in three matches since Scott took over at the end of October. It will stop other clubs from stealing him, and gives everyone at the club a lift. Hopefully his injury is not too bad and is back in a few weeks.

Meanwhile Rangers reserve midfielder Andrew Shinnie (below)is to join Dundee on a loan deal until January. The 19-year-old made two first team appearances for the Ibrox club last year, both as a late substitute. And Shinnie was captain of Rangers' Under-19 side that won the league and cup double last season. A good boost for the midfield, and looks like he could add some goals. Andy will arrive this Monday for training. Colin McMenamin has joined in for some ball work in training , and will step it up next week. We have missed him over the last few games. Things are looking up and the squad are getting back to full strength.

Dundee knew they could win from the outset and did so with goals from Eric Paton, against his former team, and Bryan Deasley. It may have been different if Steven Tosh had opened the scoring after eight minutes when Sean O'Connor found him with a low cross but the evergreen midfielder knocked his shot beyond the post from a matter of yards. Kyle Benedictus, playing his third game at the age of 16, almost scored four minutes later when he connected with Freddy Daquin's corner but the ball rebounded back off the crossbar. Dundee had to replace Benedictus early in the second half after the youngster slumped to the turf with a serious-looking calf problem. Jim Lauchlan, who has been injured since the summer, came on to make his debut. The hosts went ahead on 64 minutes following appeals for a penalty after Pozniak was fouled on the edge of the area. Paton stepped up to curl the free-kick over the wall and into net. Eleven minutes from time Mickael Antoine-Curier laid the ball in perfectly for Deasley, who slammed a shot home from close range to seal the points.

Dundee started brightly enough, striker Bryan Deasley working his way into the Pars' penalty box only to be thwarted by a last-gasp challenge from Woods. The ball then broke to David O'Brien who got in his shot only to see it blocked by Greg Shields. Dunfermline, however, were robbed of the lead in the 13th minute.A Kevin Harper corner from the right was delivered into the path of Stephen Glass and the midfielder let fly with a left foot drive from 20 yards out which smacked off the post with former Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas beaten.Second later, Harper took another corner from the right, which was met perfectly by the boot of Glass and fairly whistled by the Douglas' left-hand post.Dunfermline were enjoying the majority of the play and there was a further anxious moment for Dundee's defence when Irish striker Andy Kirk's free kick just outside the box came off the Dens rearguard wall and quick-as-a-flash, Woods pounced only to see his net bound shot pushed away by Douglas.In a clever down on the right. Harper found Nicky Phinn and the midfielder sent in an inviting ball for Kirk, but it fell awkwardly and he could only drill his effort wide of the target.It was proving a hard day at the office for Dundee with Mickael Antoine-Curier and the smaller figure of Deasley unable to get the service required to trouble Dunfermline goalkeeper Paul Gallacher although the team were defending resolutely.The second half started with a thumping clash of heads involving Eddie Malone and Harper although, thankfully, it turned out to be nothing serious.Dundee fans appealed for a penalty for handball after ex-Dunfermline player Freddie Daquin's corner came off Dunfermline skipper Scott Wilson, but referee Stevie O'Reilly was having none of it.On the hour mark, Dunfermline front man Graham Bayne knocked the ball down for Kirk but, under close scrutiny from Kyle Benedictus, his scrambled drive went over the top.The Fifers made their first change, Scott Muirhead coming on for Austin McCann, and the move almost paid instant dividends as a left foot drive from Kirk looked destined for the corner of the net until Douglas somehow got his hand to the ball. The home supporters were now sensing the all-important breakthrough although Dundee continued to stand firm against a determined attack.Then, in the 68th minute, Dunfermline were left reeling when Dundee hit them with a sucker-punch goal. Deasley threaded the ball through to Antoine-Curier who found himself in the clear and he made the most of the opportunity, running through before cooly slotting the ball past Gallacher. In fact Antoine-Curier should have made it 2-0 in injury time , when he rounded Gallagher in the pars goal, but was forced too wide and his pass was put wide by Bob Davidson. Farningham And Smith back at Dens Park....

Dundee manager Jocky Scott, back at Dens Park, has appointed Ray Farningham as his assistant. Farningham was previously assistant to Jim Duffy at Dens Park. He has been out of football since losing his job as international scout with Gretna when the Borders club went into administration. Jocky Scott's first game in charge of Dundee ended in a 1-1 draw to Airdrie. Meanwhile, former club captain Barry Smith also makes a return to Dens Park after leaving the club in May 2006. Smith, who moved from Celtic to Dundee in 1995, joins Jocky Scott's backroom team as head of Youth Development. He will replace Paul Ritchie who has left the club.

JOCKY SCOTT was greeted like a returning hero when he walked out at Dens Park for his third spell as manager yesterday but Airdrie prevented the veteran manager from a fairytale start to this latest chapter of his career. A goal from Simon Lynch after 11 minutes gave the Diamonds the lead and they could have scored another four had it not been for striker Paul Di Giacomo's series of misses. But they could not manage to get the ball into the net and a half-time chat from manager Scott pumped Dundee up for the second half, a 45 minutes in which they showed battling qualities sorely lacking in recent weeks. Mickael Antoine-Curier grabbed the equaliser on 66 minutes, showing his new boss that there is something to work with at Dens. Scott pulled a few pre-match selection surprises. Kyle Benedictus, a 16-year-old defender, was drafted in from the youth set-up while ex-Hearts player Eddie Mearns came in for his first start. Bryan Deasley was also given a rare start in attack alongside Antoine-Curier. Benedictus was lucky that his first stint in top-team football was not marred by conceding a penalty kick after just four minutes when, having misjudged a bounce, he appeared to bundle into the back of Lynch inside the box. With even Dundee's players expecting referee Chris Boyle to award a penalty kick, the official awarded a free-kick the other way. Dundee were equally fortunate on nine minutes when a cross which evaded Rab Douglas cracked off the bar but fell perfectly for Di Giacomo. A goal looked a certainty but he somehow nodded over from two yards. Dundee's luck did not hold, though, and they eventually fell behind on 11 minutes to a stunning goal from Lynch. The Dark Blues failed to clear their lines, allowing a cross from the left to reach the striker at the back post and he dispatched a sensational half-volley into the top corner from 10 yards. Scott's side almost equalised on 25 minutes when, following Darren Williams' header into the box, Craig McKeown looked to have beaten Stephen Robertson but the keeper plucked the ball away with one hand. The danger was not averted, though, as it trundled out to Antoine-Curier who, in turn, poked it back in but just as the ball looked set to squirm over the line, Airdrie's defence managed to boot clear. Airdrie should have punished Dundee just before the interval when a neat interchange between Lynch and Di Giacomo gave the latter a sight of goal at the back post. However, he snatched at his effort, with McKeown bearing down on him, sending it flashing past the post. Lynch forced Douglas into a save only 60 seconds later, playing on the shoulder of Benedictus before trying to lob the keeper but he got a hand to it. Dundee should have made more of a dead ball on the edge of the area, after Kevin McDonald fouled Mearns, but Eddie Malone slapped the free-kick off the defensive wall. Mearns set up a great chance for Antoine-Curier on 60 minutes but the striker couldn't edge in ahead of a defender to meet the cross. He atoned for that on 66 minutes, though, as Dundee ground out the equaliser. A header into the penalty area from McKeown was intelligently left by Deasley and it ran through for Antoine-Curier, who lashed a shot beyond Robertson. The striker had another chance at the end but could not beat Robertson to Mearns' through ball and watched the keeper gobble the ball up.

Jocky Scott has become Dundee manager for a third time, with chairman Bob Brannan praising the 60-year-old's hunger for the job. "I have seldom met anyone with greater desire to do a particular job than Jocky has to be the manager of Dundee FC," Brannan told BBC Sport. "For him, the club is unfinished business and that is a feeling that is clearly shared by many of our fans." Scott was sacked in 2000 with Dundee fifth in the Scottish Premier League. It was their highest-ever finish in the SPL, but the then owners of the club were not happy with the style of play being adopted and imported the big-spending Ivano Bonetti. "Despite the manner in which his last stint at the club ended, he has never stopped believing in Dundee FC and, in turn, the board believe in Jocky," said Brannan. "That is why he is unquestionably the man for us." I hope that, before I leave here again, Dundee are in the Premier League. Brannan said that Scott's reputation for being an outstanding coach, tactician and organiser, as well as having a "remarkable" network of contacts at the highest levels of football, made him the outstanding candidate, with up to 90% of supporters backing the appointment. Between his two spells at Dens Park, Scott had periods in charge of Aberdeen, Dunfermline Athletic and Arbroath, plus a caretaker spell with Hibernian. And, after leaving Dens in 2000, he managed Notts County and Raith Rovers, was caretaker at Plymouth Argyle, reserve team coach at Sunderland and assistant with Danish outfit Viborg. But Scott feared he might never have another opportunity to be a manager. "I've been trying for a least two years to get back into the game in Scotland," he said. "Everybody seems to think it's a young man's game these days, to the detriment of experience. But I've still got faith in my ability. "It has been a long time coming since the last time at Dundee, but I am looking forward to the challenge. "It left a bitter taste because I thought I had done well the last time and established the club in the Premier League. "Dundee Football Club should be in the Premier League and I hope that, before I leave here again, we are in the Premier League." The First Division club have been searching for a new boss since sacking Alex Rae earlier this month after going 10 games without a win and dropping to ninth in the table. Rae's assistant, David Farrell, took charge of the first-team for Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Morton but has now also left the club. Scott is expected to form his backroom team within a week, with another former Dundee player, Ray Farningham, who had a spell as manager of Forfar Athletic, expected to be one of them. Returning to Dens renews Scott's 40-year association with the club he graced as a midfielder.

Dundee are set to appoint Jocky Scott as manager for the third time. The Irn-Bru First Division club have called a press conference for 2.30pm, where it is expected they will unveil the former Dens Park striker.Scott will replace Alex Rae who was sacked after Dundee picked up 12 points from their opening 10 league games.The 60-year-old was on a shortlist of five or six candidates, but Dundee were foiled in their attempts to speak to three employed managers. Queen of the South and Brechin denied them permission to speak to Gordon Chisholm and Michael O'Neill respectively, while Kenny Black pledged his future to Airdrie.

MORTON beat both the elements and a Dundee side who were not just lacking a manager, but lacked fight, determination and adventure and are quickly heading for a winter of discontent.The conditions were always likely to be paramount and twice in the space of a minute Dundee's Freddie Daquin almost scored direct from corner kicks. In 15 minutes the wind-assisted kick curled the ball viciously and Allan Jenkins did well to clear off the line on the near post. The return kick threatened in similar fashion and this time Jenkins headed off the line.When the deadlock was broken in 26 minutes it was through a piece of sublime opportunism. Dundee midfielder Darren Williams was dispossessed by James Grady who ran through, Robert Douglas raced from goal to block his shot at the edge of the area, but Peter Weatherson kept his cool and followed up to brilliantly curl the loose ball into the net from 25 yards.Grady should have doubled 'Ton's lead in 34 minutes when Jim McAlister ripped open the Dundee defence, but the veteran striker shot wide. Five minutes later Douglas made a terrific near-post block from Kevin Finlayson's 12-yard volley, as Morton threatened to overrun hapless Dundee.Morton deservedly got a second in 59 minutes. Finlayson floated a through-ball for Grady and his chip was handled by Craig McKeown. Ryan McGuffie lashed home the spot kick for his sixth goal of the season.

New Striker..For Morton Game?

DUNDEE may pitch trialist Fabiano Vignarolia in against Morton tomorrow. The Italian striker is a free agent and has been training with Kilmarnock in the past week but Rugby Park manager Jim Jefferies has been unable to see him in a game, as SPL rules forbid anyone who requires international clearance being used as a trialist, even in reserve games.With Dundee badly hit by injury, Jefferies will let him play for the Dark Blues so he can have him watched in action. Vignarolia, 32, has played for Parma, Lazio and Bologna.Stand-in Dundee manager Davie Farrell said: "The guy is a very good player and comes with an impressive pedigree from his time in Italy. He's not fully fit but he's technically very good so we'll add him to the squad for Cappielow." Farrell will be in the dugout following the sacking of Alex Rae on Monday.

DUNDEE have invited applications for the vacant manager's position at Dens Park following the departure of Alex Rae and will have a board meeting tomorrow to discuss likely candidates. Former Dens Park captain Barry Smith is a front-runner and could be handed the job alongside a more experienced figure like Ray Farningham. Smith is back in Scotland following a spell in Icelandic football with FC Valur and is known to want a move into coaching. The 34-year-old, who made over 300 appearances for the club, is viewed by fans as a club legend and, given the massive turnover in playing personnel since he left two years ago – only Bryan Deasley remains – he could walk into the job fresh. Smith was handed the reigns for two games in the wake of Alan Kernaghan's sacking in 2006 and remains a popular figure in the Dens boardroom. Farningham is highly regarded for overseeing a youth development programme which brought through the likes of Lee Wilkie, Gavin Rae, Steven Milne, Derek Soutar, Scott Robertson, Paul Dixon and Kevin McDonald. The ex-Forfar manager would add experience to a Smith ticket and the pair would be a popular choice among supporters. Queen of the South manager Gordon Chisholm is another who is strongly fancied. Airdrie United's Kenny Black and Steven Frail are also likely to be under consideration at Dens Park.

Dundee Sack Alex Rae

Alex Rae has been sacked as manager of Dundee after a disappointing start to their First Division promotion bid. The former Rangers, Sunderland and Wolves midfielder was relieved of his duties after Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to struggling Ross County. Rae, 39, had lost support in the boardroom but was unhappy at the summer sale of top players like Kevin McDonald, who was sold to Burnley. Dundee are third bottom of Division One but remain just six points off the top. Assistant manager David Farrell will take charge of the first-team for Saturday's match against Morton in Greenock as Dundee aim to resurrect their pursuit of leaders Queen of the South.

DUNDEE'S dismal form continued with a home reversal to rejuvenated Ross County. While Derek Adams' side were recording their fourth consecutive victory, Dundee have garnered three points once in their last nine matches and have slid down the table. The scoreline did not reflect the visitors' dominance, especially in the first-half. County set about commanding the opening exchanges. The front pairing of Dyron Daal and Steven Craig performed with menace but it was a more unlikely source, defender Andy Dowie, who scored the opening goal. A corner from Richard Brittain should not have caused Dundee much consternation but a failure to attack the ball let it slip through to the back post, where Dowie was lurking to nod the ball home. Then Craig produced a stunning finish to send his side two up. Richie Hart's quick break left Dundee lagging and he crossed for Craig inside the area, who, with his back to goal, managed to spin and squeeze a shot over Douglas from only a few yards. Dundee boss Alex Rae brought on Mickael Antoine-Curier and Freddy Daquin at the break and this move worked. Antoine-Curier found a goal after only 13 minutes of coming on when Davidson back-heeled the ball into his path. He broke through on Bullock and slashed a low shot into the corner. Dundee then began to come more into the game but could not gain enough momentum to find the equaliser.

Dundee only capable of fielding four substitutes on the bench because of an injury crisis, almost snatched a dramatic early lead when Freddy Daquin swung over a corner from the right which was met perfectly by the head of Craig McKeown. However, Jags defender Paul Paton was well placed on the near post to clear.The injury-ravaged Dark Blues, with manager Alex Rae forced to name himself as a trialist substitute, showed a positive approach and almost capitalised on a mistake by David Rowson. Chris Pozniak put Mark Gilhaney away on the left, his cutback picking out Daquin, but the Frenchman blasted over from 16 yards.Ian McCall's Partick side gradually claimed the ascendancy and Simon Donnelly took a pass from Gary Harkins before shooting narrowly wide of Rab Douglas' right-hand post.Dundee almost broke the deadlock on the hour amidst a blaze of controversy after referee Eddie Smith allowed Mikael Antoine-Curier to break free on the right after the Dens man had clearly handled the ball.The striker found Bob Davidson in excellent position on the edge of the area but his shot was cleared off the line by Simon Storey.It was as close as either side got as the match petered out in a drab stalemate.

St.Johnstone 2 Dundee 0, McDiarmid Park, First Division, 27/September/08

Dundee started with one striker upfront, a formation I don't like personally.St Johnstone enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half but were largely toothless, while Dundee did not see as much of the ball but had slightly more menace in the final third. Mickael Antoine-Curier should have put them ahead on 20 minutes when he met Freddy Daquin's free-kick inside the area but his header slipped wide. Then, on 29 minutes, referee Iain Brines made his howler. Dundee's Gary MacKenzie mis-judged a headed clearance and sent the ball spinning past Rab Douglas, his goalkeeper. To the amazement of everyone, Brines chalked the goal off for an alleged push by Martin Hardie. But St Johnstone were a team rejuvenated in the second half and a stunning goal from Sheerin split the sides on 53 minutes. With two defenders around him on the edge of Dundee's box, he spun back and forth looking for an opening before lofting a stunning shot over Douglas from 18 yards. With Dundee floundering, Milne secured the win with four minutes left, thrashing a shot beyond Douglas from 18 yards.

A poor result for Dundee, playing with just one striker is just too negative for me, as today St.Johnstone were not great shakes. I just hope that Dundee can get a win at Firhill on Saturday, we badly need one now before the gap at the top gets even bigger..

Dundee have signed Rhian Dodds on loan from Kilmarnock, he should go straight into the midfield for this Saturday's vital game at Perth. He has played 31 times for Killie, but has not played since last December.

More Injury Woe For Dark Blues

Dundee midfielder Colin Cameron won’t play again this year after it was confirmed he needs surgery to repair damaged knee ligaments. Cameron was carried off during a closed-door game at East Fife on Monday night — just as he battled back to full fitness after straining a medial ligament at the end of the pre-season programme. A visit to a specialist last night confirmed this time surgery would be needed to repair the damage and there was a chance the 35-year-old would undergo his operation today. Exactly how long he’ll be out for will become clear only when he is able to start rehab work in the next few weeks, but there is no chance of him being seen in a Dark Blue shirt before the New Year. Cameron is the second summer signing to go under the knife over the past few days — Jim Lauchlan had an abductor operation in Leeds last Friday. That op. was completed successfully, but it will be up to six weeks before Lauchlan is ready to play. When he does, he may be put out on a short-term loan to get his match fitness up to scratch.

Mickael Antoine-Curier should have put Dundee ahead after a mere nine minutes but wasted Bob Davidson's clever through-ball by smacking a half-hearted effort off the legs off Pierre Martini, Livingston's goalkeeper, when it seemed certain that he would simply curl a shot around him. Livingston, without injured top scorer Leigh Griffiths, proved they still have plenty to offer in an attacking sense and caused Dundee's goalkeeper Rab Douglas a moment of consternation on 21 minutes. Rocco Quinn, on loan from Celtic, switched the play with team-mate Joe Hamill on the edge of the area before collecting the ball again and sending a powerful drive towards goal. Douglas scampered along his line in an attempt to block and was relieved when the shot slipped just past the post. Livingston took the lead on 40 minutes, following some shocking defending. Dundee simply failed to mark up at Fernando Giarrizzo's corner kick, allowing Innes far too much space inside the penalty area to head the ball on target from 12 yards. His effort should have been routine for Douglas but the angled run of Murray Davidson through his eye line clearly distracted him and before he could reach it the ball had nestled in the back of the net. Alex Rae was unhappy with his players' efforts so made two alterations at the interval. Antoine-Curier, who was again ineffective, was sacrificed along with defensive midfielder Chris Pozniak, allowing Colin McMenamin and Colin Cameron an opportunity. Dundee went close on 76 minutes when Livingston failed to defend Paul McHale's corner kick but despite Gary MacKenzie appearing to have the beating of goalkeeper Martini, the defender could not turn the ball home. As Dundee stretched themselves in an attempt to find an equaliser, they were exposed at the back and paid a heavy price with five minutes remaining when Elliot flicked a shot beyond Douglas to make the points safe. The on-loan Hearts striker then compounded Dundee's misery in the final seconds by breaking free of the defence before slotting another low shot beyond Douglas. The Dundee fans reacted badly to events in the final minutes, with the team and manager loudly booed from the park at the end. A poor result and the next 2 games will see where our season is going. My fear is the squad is not deep enough and we have signed players who are not fit yet , and it's nearly October...

Dundee 0 Dunfermline Ath 0, Dens Park, First Division, 13/September/08.

Dundee started brightly and Curier twice missed the target early on before the Pars suffered a blow when Stephen Glass limped off with a groin strain. Sub Steven Bell replaced in the middle of the park. David O'Brien and Eric Paton tested Gallacher then Dunfermline survived a major scare seven minutes from the break as Dundee came close to ending the deadlock four times in an amazing 10-second spell in front of goal. O'Brien's shot was palmed away by Gallacher straight to Bob Davidson who saw his low drive blocked by Scott Wilson. The ball then fell to Dens defender Craig McKeown whose mis-hit shot struck the face of a post, rebounding to Mark Gilhaney who drove high and wide. Then Woods and Malone clashed after a meaty but fair challenge, although arguably Dundee suffered more from the decision as Dunfermline defended like men possessed from that minute on. Soon after the restart Gilhaney's cross was volleyed goalwards by Malone but Curier contrived to divert the ball away from goal with his head rather than towards it. Bell and Andy Kirk were off target for Dunfermline in rare ventures forward. However, Gallacher was the standout, making yet another fine stop from Davidson's rising effort and wisely opting to push the ball wide to safety in wet conditions. Paton then delivered a perfect cross to pick out the unmarked Curier but the striker headed well wide with the goal gaping. The Pars survived one final fright when Gallacher spilled a Malone free-kick but his defenders came to his rescue with a series of blocks that epitomised the spirit they had shown all afternoon. Thats the best we have played for a while, and I liked the look of McKeown who looked to be a very good defender. Next game is Livingston at Dens next Saturday which will prove to be vital.

Queen of the South 3 Dundee 1, Palmerstone, First Division, 30/August/08.

Dundee travelled to Dunfries hoping that Queen of the South were suffering from a UEFA Cup hangover, but that was dispelled over the 90 minutes that followed. Dundee scored first after 14 minutes. Mickael Antoine-Curier layed the ball off to Chris Pozniak, who took one touch before slotting home from seven yards.Queens came back into it in the 26th minute when a Stephen Dobbie shot from close range was well beaten away by Rab Douglas. From the resulting corner the Dundee defence failed to clear and Craig Barr was on hand to fire home from ten yards, levelling the match. The imperial Queens captain Jim Thompson was leading by example as the home team began to dominate. He came close to putting his side in front but his header in the 37th minute was saved by Douglas. A minute before half-time Queens went in front when clever work by Sean O'Connor set up Stephen Dobbie who fired low past Douglas. Dobbie came close to increasing his side's lead early in the second half, but Douglas kept the hosts at bay. Dobbie managed to get his second and his sides third in the 68th minute. A surging run by new boy David Weatherston created a great chance for the Queens hitman who made no mistake from six yards. At the other end, Dundee strikers Colin McMenamin and Curier had opportunities to haul their side back into it, but Queens held firm and were worthy winners.

Dundee could have put themselves in the box seat with only four minutes gone as the ball broke to Freddie Daquin after Jon Tuffey blocked from Mickael Antoine-Curier. But Daquin completely miscued and Chris Pozniak’s attempt to spare the Frenchman’s blushes from the edge of the area flew inches over.However, although Dundee did most of the first-half pressing, it was by no means one-way traffic with the home side needing a piece of quality goalkeeping from Robert Douglas to avoid slipping behind—the former Scotland keeper thwarting Damon Gray after he’d been put through by Scott Chaplain. Tuffey came to Thistle’s rescue early in the second period without knowing much about it, blocking Antoine-Curier’s point blank header from Colin McMenamin’s cross.And as Dundee stepped up the pace Thistle had a further let off as McStay appeared to whip the pins from McMenamin just inside the box only for referee Willie Collum to wave play on.Partick stunned the Dens Park outfit and their fans on 76 minutes when Maxwell’s mishit’s cross sailed over the stranded Douglas and into the far corner of the net. Dundee showed their character with a rapid response, McHale lashing the ball home, just two minutes later, after finding himself with time and space 12 yards out. But with four minutes remaining Malone lunged in on Lennon leaving Collum with no option but point to the spot from where Harkins sent Douglas the wrong way and Rae’s side out of the competition.

Dundee maintained their position at the top of the First Division with a narrow victory over Morton. Defender Eric Paton's 28th-minute header was enough to seal all three points and extend the club's unbeaten start to the season. French forward Mickael Antoine-Curier impressed for the hosts and proved to be a thorn in the visitors' side throughout the game. The defeat leaves Morton struggling in ninth place in the league table. Another 3 points for The Dark Blues, but we did not play that well.

Airdrie 0 Dundee 0, Excelsior Stadium, 16/August/08

Airdrie goalkeeper Stephen Robertson earned his side a valuable draw against Dundee with a string of vital saves. Colin McMenamin, twice, and Mickael Antoine-Curier were both denied by Robertson as Dundee piled on early pressure against the hosts. Scott McLaughlin replaced the struggling David Nixon after 24 minutes and solidified the Airdrie backline. But Antoine-Curier came close to opening the scoring again with a low effort that Robertson turned away.

Defender David Cowan trained for the first time yesterday after suffering a head knock against Clyde, while Craig McKeown continues to make progress and is a couple of weeks away from a return. It will be another 3 massive points for Dundee..let's hope so as St.Johnstone play Dunfermline this weekend.
