Some Photos From Tannadice

Dundee United 2, Dundee 4, Tannadice, William Hill Premiership, 16th March 2025

The Dark Blues made three changes to the team that played Hearts. Mo Sylla, Lyall Cameron and Scott Tiffoney returned to the starting eleven, replacing Ryan Astley, Cesar Garza and Fin Robertson, who were all on the bench.

Dundee started well and really looked up for the game, Thay attacked the United defence and were unlucky not to score a few time.

Then on 11 minutes Simon Murray sent Mulligan clear into the penalty area. Jack Walton saved well but Lyall Cameron popped the loose ball into the net. The players were lined up for the restart when the VAR check came through to disallow the goal. Seun Adewumi had been marginally offside in the build up.

It was a blow but Dundee kept up the pace and soon after went ahead when great play from Murray sent Ziyad Larkeche to the byline. He put in a great cross which somehow Jordon McGhee twisted his body to score with a superb header.

Soon after Cameron had a shot saved and then Murray put one just wide of the post. Dundee kept attacking United relentlessly, always finding space in the final third. In the 23rd minunte Scott Tiffoney  took a pass from Larkeche, ran into space and blasted a rocket shot straight at Walton, the keeper  allowed the ball to slip through his grasp into the net.

But United pulled a goal back when Dundee failed to clear, and Middleton scored with a neat finish.

Dundee never let that unsettle them and on 39 minutes it was 3-1 with a superb goal, great play and pass from Adewumi set up Jordon McGhee to curl a wonderful shot into the net.

Dundee scored again and it was ruled by Var that Murray was offside in the build up. It could have been 5-1 at half-time.

Second half and both teams started well and it was United who scored after 49 minutes when Trapanovski shot home which came off a defender to wrong foot Carson to make it 3-2.

Dundee had to dig in a bit, as United had a wee spel[. Dundee hit on the break and always looked dangerous.

Dundee twice went agonisingly close to tying up the match with two efforts by central defenders. At a corner Donnelly’s header was cleared off the line by Ferry. When United couldn’t clear a long throw Donnelly hooked a high ball into the goalmouth. Joe Shaughnessy headed down and the ball bounced, looping and dropping inches over the crossbar with Walton beaten and looking on in despair.

United made subs to try and get another goal but Carson saved anything with ease. But in extra time Dundee scored again when Simon Murray done great to hold the ball up. went down got back up and robbed the Und defender to get clear to then be pushed in the back.

A clear penalty and up stepped Simon Murray to sent Walton the wrong way to make it 4-2 and he ran all the way down to the other end of the pitch to celebrate.

That sealed the game for sure and soon after the final whistle went. The Dundee fans celebrated in total joy, it was Dundee's first win at Tannadice for 21 years. My son Andrew was so happy it was a joy to see.

Every Dundee player deserved great credit today, it was a massive 3pts for the club.

Dundee: Carson, McGhee, Shaughnessy (c), Donnelly, Larkeche, Mulligan, Sylla, Cameron, Tiffoney, Murray, Adewumi. Unused Subs: McCracken (gk), Sharp (gk), Ingram, Astley, Samuels, Garza, Reilly, Fin Robertson, Lopez.

East Fife game for the day

Another Saturday free, so myself and Alexander went down to see East Fife v Stranraer game at New Bayview, A lovely sunny day in Methil.

East Fife lost the game 3-0 and were poor on the day. Like Dundee they do it the hard way to hopefully win the league.

Food and a few drinks were great before and during the game and the people were very friendly, with a few groundhoppers up to see the game.

Transport was great and the bus took us home very quickly.

Back the Club, Manager and Players

After a couple of days to get over our exit from this years Scottish Cup. I watched the highlights and felt a wee bit better. It will need a massive effort from everyone at Dens now to get on a run of results to make sure the club stays in the Premiership.

I don't think getting a new Manager at this point, would help things it's up to the players now to really step up. The Cameron/McGhee saga is tough but l think both players will give their best to the club.

I don't like this pre-contract, if you want to go it should be done at the end of the season or done straight away in January.

I'm not happy with the stuff on social media towards our Manager. Something l would never do, it does not mean l'm happy with Dundee this season we have struggled for most of the season.

Anyway time will tell, l will back my club and really hope for the best.

Hearts Photos

Hearts 3, Dundee 1, Tynecastle, Scottish Cup 1/4 Final, 8th March 2025

A couple of changes to Dundee's starting line-up. Ryan Astley and Fin Robertson came in for the suspended Lyall Cameron and for Mo Sylla, who was on the bench.

Dundee started well enough and forced a couple of corners which were well defended by the home team. The only chance for Hearts when a quick break away Vargas put his shot wide of the post.

The opening 25 minutes were both teams testing each other out without any clear cut chances. But on 27 minutes Hearts scored when a quick throw in was knocked on to Kartum to curl the ball past Carson who had no chance of saving.

This changed the games flow a bit. Dundee hit on the break but failed to test Gordon in the Hearts goal. Hearts had a goal disallowed for offside.

As half-time drew close Dundee had a great chance a quick break and the ball was knocked forward to Adewumi who was clear, but his shot smashed of the frame of the goal. It was so close to being a goal.

Second half and Mo Sylla came on to replace Jordan McGhee in midfield at half time.

Hearts had a couple of attacks and Dundee managed to clear the ball.

But the next period it was all Dundee as they attacked with pace. Then on 50 minutes when a quick throw in was played  Ziyad Larkeche dug out a superb cross from the byline. Joe Shaughnessy  had stayed up after the previous corner and headed neatly across Gordon to bring the Dark Blues back onto level terms.

The next 10 minutes it was all Dundee and they came close twice with good efforts on goal, another couple of attacks failed as maybr feeding Adewumi in as he had space.

Then Dundee had a narrow escape when Hearts broke across the halfway line. Sylla fouled Vargas, but referee Kevin Clancy played the advantage allowing Kabangu to run clear. Cesar Garza sprinted back to put in a superb challenge as Kabunga shot.

From the corner Murray headed the ball clear on the line. But the game had swung back for Hearts, they then got a soft free-kick as it was put in and the ball hit the top of Murray's head and ball ended up in the net leaving Carson helpless.

Worse was to follow 5 minutes later, good turn and finish from Kartum put the score to 3-1 and put the game beyond Dundee. Hearts could have scored more but Trevor Carson made three great saves.

Dundee kept at it but the ball would not fall right in the box, they did score but it was offside. Hearts finished the game comfy enough as the third goal sealed the win.

Dundee tried second half as they were much better in the second half. Now they must focus on the league games left this season.

Dundee: Carson, Astley, Shaughnessy (c), Donnelly, Mulligan, Garza (Reilly 82), McGhee (Sylla at half time), Fin Robertson, Larkeche (Tiffoney 74), Adewumi, Murray. Unused Subs: McCracken (gk), Sharp (gk), Ingram, Samuels, Lopez.

Photos From St Johnstone

Dundee 1, St Johnstone 1, Dens Park, William Hill Premiership, 01-March-25

Dundee made three changes to the Dundee starting eleven. Trevor Carson returned in goal, club captain Joe Shaughnessy came back in central defence to start his first match since April last year, and Cesar Garza started in the midfield.

They took the places of Jon McCracken, Ryan Astley and Scott Tiffoney who were all named as substitutes. A positional change saw Josh Mulligan playing further forward on the right with Garza taking a central midfield role.

Dundee started okay and had a couple of attacks, but as the last week they failed with the final ball. Then both teams struggled and seemed not to take any risks.

But Saints scored on 40 minutes a loose ball ball was picked up and played out wide, his cross was headed home by Kirk.

At least Dundee hit back and levelled the game when a long throw from Aaron Donnelly. Joe Shaughnessy nodded on and Simon Murray headed home at the far post. It was vital to prevent St Johnstone from reaching half time a goal ahead and ensure they couldn’t settle on their lead.

Fin Robertson came on for Mo Sylla at half time. Dundee were the better side for most of the second half, but without ever quite clicking into top gear. The Dark Blues repeatedly found promising positions but couldn’t set up good chances. At times there was a reluctance to make the runs or passes that might have opened up Saints, and a preference for safe passes that carried no threat.

Then the St Johnstone keeper picked the ball up from a pass back, and the Referee gave Dundee a free kick. With all Saints players on the line they were able to block the shot.

Saints had a good 10 minute spell but Carson only had one save to make. With 20 minutes left to play Scott Tiffoney and Charlie Reilly came on for Josh Mulligan and Seun Adewumi.

Donnelly forced Fisher into a smart save, pushing his volley from a corner round the post. Tiffoney came closest to scoring a winner, when he cut inside from the left and smacked a low drive off the post.

Saints were happy to take a draw which was the final score.

Dundee: Carson, McGhee, Shaughnessy (c), Donnelly, Larkeche, Garza, Sylla (Fin Robertson at half time), Cameron, Mulligan (Reilly 72), Murray, Adewumi (Tiffoneyl 72). Unused Subs: McCracken (gk), Sharp (gk), Ingram, Astley, Samuels, Lopez.

Trip To Fir Park......

Seeing this game was midweek i planned this when the fixtures came out. It was mainly to meet up with my great Motherwell mates George, Paul and Ben before the game. We have been doing this for 40+ years home or away.

I got the bus to Glasgow using my bus pass, arrived at 12:30 done some shopping and had a quick pint before booking into my hotel.

I then got time to relax and l got the 16:23 to Motherwell to meet Paul and Ben at The Railway Tavern. We had our tea and my steak pie, mashed potatoes with veg was superb.

We had a couple of drinks before heading up to the 100 club to meet up with George, the talk was how both our teams have struggled this season.

After the game George gave me a lift down to the train station, they were happy enough with the win for Motherwell, We all agreed that the game was pretty poor with both keepers not having a real save to make,

I got the train straight away to central, with three young Dees, they were getting the ember bus back to Dundee. We did our best to cheer each other up after the result.

Myself  l had two pints and then headed back to my hotel.

Next morning up had breakfast which was superb, after some more shopping which was successful (new jacket) I headed home back to Fife.

We go again Saturday this time my two boys will be at the game. Some more photos below:

Motherwell 2, Dundee 1, Fir Park, William Hill Premiership, 26th February 2025

Dundee made four changes from Saturday as they switched to a formation with four at the back. Aaron Donnelly, Mo Sylla, Scott Tiffoney, and Seun Adewumi came in for Antonio Portales, Clark Robertson and Seb Palmer-Houlden who were injured, and Fin Robertson, who was on the bench.

The game started slowly for Dundee, in fact both teams struggled to get going in the first 10 minutes. Motherwell looked more dangerous when they attacked.

But 2 minutes later Motherwell took the lead from a corner Casey headed home totally unmarked six yards out. It was dreadful defending, and has been for spells during this season.

Dundee continuted to struggle, ane the few moves over the half way line failed to test the Motherwell defence.

Jon McCracken had to punch over a fierce 18 yard shot from Slattery was the only real effort on goal before half-time.

Dundee started the second half and looked much better going forward, then after seven minutes Joe O’Shaughnessy came on as a straight replacement for Ryan Astley.

Motherwell worked hard to deny Dundee time or space on the ball, but at least they kept at it.

After 71 minutes Charlie Reilly replaced Scott Tiffoney, playing wide on the right. Dundee had their best spell of the match pinning Motherwell back and keeping the home side under pressure. For all the Dee’s attacking, however, Well held firm and the Dark Blues couldn’t get a shot on target or even have any close misses.

But after 79 minutes the dark blues got the break through when a long ball from O'Shaughnessy put Reilly in the clear and he knocked the ball a few yards to Simon Murray to score a vital goal.

It was a real boost for the team, but sadly just 5 minutes later Motherwell scored what proved to be the winner. After a few attacks which Dundee failed to clear Casey to volley home 12 yards for his second goal of the night.

It was hard one to take, Dundee did attacked but never got close enough to force a draw. Both teams were pretty poor tonight with Motherwell slightly better in the first half.

A big game on Saturday as Dundee play St Johnstone at Dens Park. It's one we to need to win just to keep the gap from bottom place,

Dundee: McCracken, McGhee, Astley (O’Shaughnessy 52), Donnelly, Larkeche (Fin Robertson 80), Mulligan, Sylla, Cameron, Tiffoney (Reilly 71), Adewumi, Murray (c). Unused Subs: Carson (gk), Sharp (gk), Ingram, Samuels, Garza, Lopez.

Ross County 3, Dundee 1, Global Energy Stadium, William Hill Premiership, 22nd February 2024

Dundee made two changes to the team. Ryan Astley and Fin Robertson came in for Aaron Donnelly and Mo Sylla, who were both on the bench.

The home side started on the attack and Jon McCracken saved well to deny them.

Then after just 4 minutes Dundee scored a fine worked goal. Good play from Ziyad Larkeche who passed to Simon Murray, who turned and sent a marvellous curling shot from the corner of the penalty area over keeper Jordan Amissah and into the far top corner.

This should have settled Dundee but Ross County took control of the game and it was no surprize when they levelled after 18 minutes. A long ball was put into the box, and it was headed into the six yard box, it was turned into the net by Phillips.

Shortly afterwards Dundee lost Antonio Portales who limped off and was replaced by Aaron Donnnelly.

Until half time the only shot for Dundee was a free kick fron Fin Robertson. County ran over our midfield and the shape of the team was much needed.

At half time Mo Sylla came on for Clark Robertson, who had a problem with his hamstring. Jordan McGhee moved back from midfield into the defence.

The second half started and County scored twice in two minutes, first they hit the post when Hale should have scored. From the corner Wright was unmarked to overkick the ball home to get their second goal from six yards.

Then a quick break away with the Dundee defence nowhere and Chilvers who had run from the half way line unmarked had a simple tap in to seal the game for the home side.

The Dee formation switched to four at the back with McGhee pushing back into midfield. Seun Adewumi came on for Seb Palmer-Houlden who took a knock. Neither change made any significant difference to the game or unsettled County.

Dundee struggled and only two real chances were create whem Murray was unlucky when he put it wide, and McGhee had a header which he failed to get on target.

County deserved the points and Dundee will need to stick together as the next six games are massive for the club.

Dundee: McCracken, Astley, Portales (Donnelly 24), Clark Robertson (Sylla at half time), Mulligan, Fin Robertson, McGhee, Larkeche, Cameron (Tiffoney 81), Murray (c), Palmer-Houlden (Adewumi 59). Unused Subs: Carson (gk), Ingram, Shaughnessy, Samuels, Garza.

Dundee 1, Aberdeen 2, Dens Park, William Hill Premiership, 15th February 2025

Dundee made one change with Mo Sylla returning in central midfield. Lyall Cameron moved forward into a more attacking role and Seun Adewumi dropped to the bench.

Both teams started well and played some nice football. Simon Murray had a early shot saved. Doohan saved again after Josh Mulligan burst through the Dons midfield to shoot from the edge of the penalty area. Larkeche smashed a shot narrowly wide into the side netting.

Jon McCracken then made a good save as the ball dipped under the bar. Aberdeen then took the lead  from the resulting corner after 29 minutes. The second ball was a deep cross beyond the far post. Krister Tobers had been left free and although McCracken saved well from his volley, Kevin Nisbet was on hand to smash the loose ball into the roof of the net.

It could have been 2-0 but McCracken saved well again, it was all Aberdeen at the moment and Dundee had to dig in. There were two frantic goalmouth scrambles. Simon Murray, Scott Tiffoney and Lyall Cameron had close range shots blocked and eventually the ball flew out for a corner which produced yet more chaos in the Dons’ goalmouth. Somehow the ball stayed out and Jordan McGhee shot past the post.

Seb Palmer-Houlden replaced Scott Tiffoney at half time, and the Dark Blues started with some promising attacks.

But on 52 minutes Aberdeen went 2-0 up when slack play in the midfield and Keskinen scored from 25 yards out for a good goal.

At least Dundee hit back two minutes later when Mulligan jinked into space on the right and dinked a lovely cross into the goalmouth for Seb Palmer-Houlden to stab home the goal that gave the Dark Blues hope.

Fin Robertson came on for Mo Sylla and then Seun Adewumi replaced Lyall Cameron.

Dundee kept at in hope of a second goal but the final pass was lacking in their play. Aberdeen came close but McCracken again saved well to deny them.

The game ended and now Dundee have slipped down the table with the Ross County game next week massive for the bottom six places come to the end of the season.

Dundee : McCracken, Portales, Clark Robertson, Donnelly, Mulligan, Sylla (Fin Robertson 57), McGhee, Larkeche (Garza 81), Cameron (Adewumi 67), Murray (c), Tiffoney (Palmer-Houlden at half time). Unused Subs: Carson (gk), Ingram, Astley, Shaughnessy, Samuels.

Dundee 4, Airdrie 0, Dens Park, Scottish Cup 5th Rd, 8th March 2024

Dundee made six changes to the Dee team. Jon McCracken, Clark Robertson, Ziyad Larkeche, Jordan McGhee, Lyall Cameron and Scott Tiffoney came in for Trevor Carson, Ryan Astley, Cesar Garza, Fin Robertson, and Mo Sylla, who were all named as substitutes, and Ethan Ingram.

Dundee started well and attacked Airdrie from the start, but had to watch the Diamonds on the the break away. Antonio Portales made a great block to stop a shot soon after.

Dundee then attacked again and Kieran Wright in the away goal had to turn Jordan McGhee’s fierce shot from 22 yards over the bar.

From the corner taken by Lyall Cameron Dundee took the lead when Craig Robertson headed home.

At least Airdrie tried to play football, and Dundee scored again after 25 minutes it was 2-0 when Airdrie’s defence fell apart again.

Under pressure Dylan MacDonald sent a short backpass to Wright. Scott Tiffoney intercepted and, with the keeper out of position, he cut the ball back for Lyall Cameron to score.

Dundee were now in complete control. Airdrie attack gave Dean McMaster room to shoot from 20 yards but Jon McCracken saved well. In a Airdrie attack Dundee gave Dean McMaster room to shoot from 20 yards but Jon McCracken saved well.

The Dark Blues settled the tie with two goals in the last five minutes of the first half. Cameron had ample time and space approaching the penalty area to pick his pass. He found Tiffoney who sent Seun Adewumi  in to tuck the third goal past Wright.

Four minutes and good work from Simon Murray and his passed to Lyall Cameron to score his second goal.

Second half and Dundee played some great football but failed to get the fifth goal. Scott Tiffoney went close with a shot. Airdrie had a five minute spell when they hit the ball, and Jon McCracken had to pull off two fine saves.

Dundee made changes in the last 20 minutes Victor Lopez was given his debut from the substitutes’ bench, and Joe Shaughnessy got a big ovation when he came on for his first appearance since April last year.

Lopez looked lively and and was involved in a few Dundee moves, but the main focus was to keep a clean sheet which they did to reach the 1/4 Final stage.

Great result for Dundee after the two heavy defeats in the league.

Dundee 0, Hearts 6, Dens Park, William Hill Premiership, 01-February-25

Dundee made two changes to the team which beat Dundee United. Josh Mulligan returned from illness and Imari Samuels made his first start. They replaced Ethan Ingram and Fin Robertson.

The game started with both teams playing some good moves. Carson saved well from Shankland's header. But the games changed after 15 minutes when Hearts scored, sadly they scored again two minutes later.

After this Dundee struggled and Hearts took control of the game. Dundee had a couple of moves near the end of the half, and the closest they came was a Murray header which Gordon saved inthe Hearts goal.

Tony Docherty made two changes at half time. Fin Robertson and Seb Palmer-Houlden came on for Imari Samuels and Cesar Garza. Robertson was a straight replacement at left wing back, but Palmer-Houlden played up front with Murray, Lyall Cameron taking up a more central role, and Seun Adewumi behind the front two.

As Dundee came forward looking for a goal, Hearts hit on the break and scored with ease to make it 3-0. After this Dundee failed to create anythink of note to worry Hearts.

After 67 minutes it was 4-0 after Carson dropped the ball and Dremmeh had a easy tap in. Ziyad Larkeche came on for Adewumi after 70 minutes. It was at least a wee hightlight for the Dundee fans who had stayed to watch.

Dundee 1, Dundee United 0, Dens Park, Scottish Cup 4th Rd, 20th January 2024

Dundee made one change Lyall Cameron replayed Josh Mulligan who has flu. Dundee started this cup tie in a positive mood and forced a corner in the first minute.

From the corner by Fin Robertson his cross found Simon Murray in the six yard boax and his clever header went across the goal and into the net to give the dark blues the lead.

A few minutes later and Murray had a shot which just went over the bar, Und had the ball in the net on 9 minutes but the ball went out and came back in for the cross. It was checked by VAR and they agreed with the officials.

Both teams attacked with Dundee going close when Donnelly headed just over the bar. Graham missed a header for Und and maybe should have scored.

The Dark Blues came agonisingly close to a second goal after Lyall Cameron sent Ethan Ingram away down the right. His low cross found Murray whose shot was blocked and then Robertson and Cameron had shots blocked in a proper goalmouth stramash.

Dundee were the better side in the first half, but United started the second half well, and Dundee had to dig in and defend their goal. They forced Carson into make a few good saves. Dundee hit on the break and Cameron was unlucky when he put his shot over the ball.

Seb Palmer-Houlden replaced Seun Adewumu after 65 minutes. The young Austrian had been a menace to the United defence, but Palmer-Houlden’s fresh legs and hard work were of great value in the closing stages

The last 20 minutes Und threw everything at the Dundee goal, but Carson saved went needed and  Ingram cleared a certain goal, when he blocked the ball.

Imari Samuels came on for Cesar Garza for the last 12 minutes of play. He played at left back with Fin Robertson moving into midfield.

United hit the post late on and Trevor Carson tipped the ball over the bar when it came back to Paton.

In a last minute Fin Robertson had a shot saved and it was a corner to Dundee, and that was when the final whistle went.

Dundee got a famous win the first since 1956 in the Scottish Cup. A great result for the club and for the fans. They deserved it on the night and hopefully can get a run this year.

Dundee 3, Celtic 3, Dens Park, William Hill Premiership, 14th January 2024

Dundee made one change when Fin Robertson replaced Scott Tiffoney who was on the bench with Lyall Cameron, also was new signing Imari samuels.

Dundee started well and had a couple of attacks before Celtic took the lead when McCowan scored with a good header which left Carson helpless.

The visitors stayed on top for a wee while and could have scored a couple of goals, At least Dundee worked hard and were looking to get a chance before half-time.

They did three minute before the break, they broke up a corner and raced down the park, the ball was picked up by Robertson and his quick pass put Seun Adewumi clear and the youngster bend the ball home for a superb taken goal.

Celtic started the second half well and Dundee had to defend well in the first few minutes. But they scored in 54 minutes which was a scrappy goal, Yang headed home after Robertson and Carson failed to clear.

But at least Dundee had a go at celtic and 1 minute later it 2-2, Murray done well and fed Josh Mulligan who ran to the byline and his shot went in off Carter-Vickers into the net to the dee-light of the home fans.

Dundee kept at it and Adewumi flashed a 22 yard shot narrowly past. Ethan Ingram’s header flew just past the post with Schmeichel rooted to the goalline. Fin Robertson wasn’t far away with a free kick from 25 yards.

Celtic had a go as well and Carson made three good saves to keep Dundee in the game.

Then Dundee took the lead when Aaron Donnelly headed home to put Dundee ahead 3-2 with 12 minutes to go.

Dundee and Celtic had a go to get further goals, Sylla was unlucky with a shot which went over the bar. Dundee were digging in and went all the way into 3 minutes of 4 added on when Celtic were awarded a penalty after the ball hit Sylla's arm as he dived in to block a shot.

Needless to say Celtic scored and the game ended 3-3. A great point for the dark blues who came so close to winning the game. All the players were superb tonight and deserve all the credit they will get from this game.

Imari Samuels Signs

Imari Samuels has joined Dundee on a two-and-a-half-year deal from Premier League side, Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 21-year-old left-back came through the ranks at Reading, before joining the Seagulls in 2022 and spent the end of last season on loan at Fleetwood Town.

Samuels has joined up with his new teammates and will wear the number 12 for The Dee!

My view is we were needing a left-back to help the defence. So welcome to Dundee FC Imari

Dundee 1, Rangers 1, Dens Park, William Hill Premiership, 9th January 2025

Dundee made three changes when Ethan Ingram, Aaron Donnelly and Cesar Garza replaced Luke Graham and Seb Palmer-Houlden, who were on the bench, and Lyall Cameron, who was ill. Donnelly was making his second Dee debut after signing yesterday, following last season’s loan spell from Nottingham Forest, and Garza made his first start.

Rangers had the first attack but failed to trouble the Dundee goal, it took six minutes for Dundee to attack, but when they did it was a openining goal. Great play involving Seun Adewumi and that allowed Ethan Ingram to cross. Scott Tiffoney’s shot was blocked with the ball breaking wide for Josh Mulligan to screw a cross back from the byline.  Sean Adewumi to score with a fine finish.

Then minutes later Donnelly had a header blocked and hid follow up shot was blocked by a shaky Rangers defence. Dundee were playing some neat football.

Then Dundee claimed a penalty when Murray was fouled in the box, Rangers went up the park and scored. After a VAR check the penalty was not given and it was 1-1.

The same kind of foul gave a penalty to Rangers last season, Dundee kept playing football and were unlucky a few times before half-time.

Second half and Rangers had more of the ball but Carson only had to make two good saves, Dundee were unlucky not to get a second goal when Adewumi scored again but Murray was ruled offside. It was very close.

Seb Palmer-Holden and Julien Vetro came on for Simon Murray and Scott Tiffoney to give Rangers fresh problems with their fresh legs and energy.

After an impressive debut Cesar Garza went down with what looked like cramp and was replaced by Sammy Braybrooke for the last 15 minutes.

Rangers hit the bar late on and Dundee had a couple of chances but could not hit the target.

Dundee deserved the point tonight and could have got all three with a bit of luck. Next up is Celtic at Dens next Tuesday night.

Dundee: Carson (c), Astley, Clark Robertson, Donnelly, Mulligan, Sylla, Garza (Braybrooke 78), Ingram, Tiffoney (Vetro 70), Adewumi, Murray (Palmer-Houlden 70). Unused Subs: McCracken (gk), Sharp (gk), Graham, Main.

St Johnstone 1, Dundee 3, McDiarmid Park, William Hill Premiership, 05-January-25

Dundee made only one change to the starting eleven. Scott Tiffoney came in at left wing back for the injured Fin Robertson.

Dundee started really well and scored in just three minutes, the Saints keeper made a mess of a cross ball, the ball fell nicely to Simon Murray who scored with a fine shot into the corner of the net.

After a VAR check the goal was given to the dee-light of the Dundee fans. Minutes later and it was 2-0 when after a cross from  Scott Tiffoney who chipped back into the danger area. The home defence still couldn’t clear and Clark Robertson’s low shot took a deflection giving Seb Palmer-Houlden  a tap in at the far post. 2-0 in the 10th minute.

Again a VAR check for hand ball the goal was given and it put Dundee in a great place. Saints had a couple of chances but nothing to worry about.

Dundee then broke up a Saints move and great pace and play from Mulligan. His low cross was missed by Adewumi but not Lyall Cameron, who took a touch to make space and smashed his shot into the corner from 12 yards. The Dark Blue support behind that goal were loving this top class entertainment from the Dee.

Dundee had a few more chances before half-time, Palmer-Houlden had a good effort saved by the Saints keeper.

Second half and St Johnstone started very well and were knocking the ball about well, Dundee were just defending well and attacking with quick breaks. Adewumi was unlucky after a great run with skill and pace his shot was well saved to deny a goal.

Saints pulled a goal back when McPake scored with a fine finish, Dundee replaced Simon Murray with Ethan Ingram and Mulligan was able to move into midfield.

It helped Dundee to tighten up and they looked much better. Later on Cesar Garza came on for his debut, replacing the hugely impressive Adewumi, after 75 minutes.

A great three points for Dundee and although the second half was not great, it was a great three points and makes the gap bigger on St Johnstone.

Dundee: Carson (c), Astley, Clark Robertson, Graham, Mulligan, Sylla, Cameron, Tiffoney, Adewumi (Garza 75), Palmer-Houlden (Main 83), Murray (Ingran 67). Unused Subs: McCracken (gk), Sharp (gk), Braybrooke, Vetro.
