Dundee lost 3-1 at East End Park on Saturday. I missed the game due to work. I have chosen to go the Cowdenbeath game in two weeks time instead. In what was a even looking first half with both teams having chances, we fell 1 nil down when after a good save from Scott Fox the ball broke and a silly tackle from Riley gave the Pars a penalty on which Gibson scored sending Fox the wrong way. The second goal on 42 minutes looked bad from a defensive view. Nobody picked up Bell's run and after a good flick on by Kirk, put him through and he finished with ease.
Into the second half and after some Dundee pressure we pulled one back, after a miss from Kuqi, we got a corner. Taken by Lockwood and headed home by midfielder Gary Harkins to give Dundee a lift. Both teams did attack with not many chances, our best came from a Griffith shot which looked in, but Smith made a great one handed save. The ref somehow did not spot the keepers touch.
Then the roof fell in when a terrible mix up between Paton and Fox, who both missed the ball, leaving a simple tap in for ex-dee Pat Clarke to make it 3-1 and game over. We must start to work really hard away from home, be positive and stop giving bad goals away. It does make the next four game very important, and l hope the fans do get behind the team. But they have to stand up and be counted now.
Dundee: Fox, Paton, McKeown, Weston, Lockwood, Riley (Forsyth 71), Adams (McMenamin 85), O'Donnell, Harkins, Kuqi (Higgins 71), Griffiths. Subs Not Used: Findlay, Irvine.

Dundee Sign Striker
Dundee 2 Falkirk 0, Dens Park, First Division, 28/August/10
Dundee beat Falkirk 2-0 at Dens this afternoon, in what was as good as I seen them play for ages. For the full 90 minutes they played well, even though the second half was tough with the loss of Rab Douglas. As expected David Witteveen made his debut, and straight away you could see he was up for it, his link up play was a joy to watch. It gave Griffiths and Harkins the room needed to play. Dundee really attacked in the first half and misses a few chances, but close to half-time the vital break through came when Harkins put a decent ball into the box towards Stephen O'Donnell who done really well to follow up and finish off with a shot across the keeper. Who earlier had denied him with a good save from a clever lob. The second was good as well just on the stroke of half time this time Nicky Riley with a clever header which looped over the keeper to send the Dundee fans wild, after Griffiths had found him with a chipped cross.
Dundee: Douglas, Paton, McKeown, Weston, Lochwood, Riley, Adams, O'Donnell, Harkins (McMenamin 55), Witteveen (Higgins 74), Griffiths (Fox 55) Subs not used: Irvine, Kerr.

Brechin City 2 Dundee 2,(Brechin won 3-1 on pens aet) Glebe Park, Cis Cup, 24/August/10
Dundee crashed out of the Cis Cup after a penalty shoot out defeat to Brechin City, in a even first half with bithe teams having chances. Rab Douglas had to look lively a few times, Dundee also had a few chances.
Second half and O'Donnell on for the injured Grant, then maybe the break we need when Brechin were reduced to 10 men, but it seemed to inspire the home side . They scored twice in a minute with two great finishes from striker Rory McAllister which gave Douglas no chance. Dundee did push forward and soon after Griffiths pulled one back with a low shot from the edge of the box, now all Dundee pressure and it payed off with Griffiths scored after a clever flick from Harkins. Now the game was on, and really should have won the tie here. Foryth was also sent off to even up the sides. A few more misses and into the last minute we got a penalty Griffiths grabbed the ball, but his spot kick flew high and wide to give Brechin a lifeline.
In extra time and it was all Dundee apart from a few break aways from Brechin. So penalties would decide the outcome. Brechin scored their first 2 , Harkins scored Dundee first, then Paton missed, Brechin missed, then O'Donnell missed, Brechin scored to make it 3-1, Riley had to scored to keep Dundee in it, but blasted high over the bar to send the Glebe Park faithful wild with delight. That was it Dundee were out.
Dundee: Douglas, Irvine (Riley 70), Lockwood, McKeown, Weston, Forsyth, Grant (O'Donnell 46), Adams (Paton 72), Harkins, McMenamin, Griffiths. Subs Not Used: Fox, Kerr.

Dundee 0 Ross County 0, Dens Park, First Division, 21/August/10
Dundee drew 0-0 in a poor game against Ross County, in what was a game of few chances. Jamie Adam replaced injured Dominic Shimmin at centre, with Nicky Riley coming back in after his suspension. Both keepers had a couple of saves first half, but Dundee miss the cutting edge, and badly need a targetman kind of striker. Gary Harkins came closest when he hit the bar with a curling freekick.
Rhys Weston came on and replaced Jamie Adam who struggled a wee bit at centre half. The second half was not much better, the only bonus was not losing the game. We have the cup game at Brechin on Tuesday to find a solution to our goal scoring problem. Also forgot about Matt Lochwood's performance he was far our best player.
