Hibernian 2, Dundee 1, Easter Road, cinch Premiership, 24th February 2023

Dundee played the same team as the last two games. They started slowly and they played some nice football they never create much in the opening first 30 minutes. Hibs on the other side looked much better going forward, 

Just five minutes after Carson had saved well, he misjudged a corner and in his recovery attept he fouled a Hibs player to give them a penalty. They scored from it and Dundee done well to get to half time with it only 1-0.

Second half Dundee  switched to 3-5-2 for the second half. Rickie Lamie and Michael Mellon replaced Dara Costelloe and Scott Tiffoney. They might have falled further behind before the changes could have any effect, but Boyle’s fierce 18 yard volley was superbly saved by Carson.

Then they got a break from VAR when Hibs scored again it looked okay but it was ruled out by VAR and it gave Dundee a chance to come into the game. They looked better going forward now with Josh Mulligan came on for Lyall Cameron. 

Soon after Curtis Main and Malachi Boateng replaced Amadou Bakayoko and Mo Sylla. Main put the ball in the net but ruled out by VAR for offside. 

Then after a Hibs spell Dundee scored when Luke McCowan took a touch and drove the ball home for a great goal. It gave everyone a lift as it was into the last 10 minutes of the game. 

But only three minutes later Hibs scored in a break away goal, it looked bad from Dundee's point of view it was poor. It was enough to seal the points for the home team. 

It was a good day out with fellow fife dark blues and it was good to see a game at Easter Road, one l have missed over the last few years.

Dundee 2. Ross County 0, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 17th February 2024

Dundee made one change  as Dara Costello replaced Zach Robinson who dropped to the bench. Malachi Boateng returned to the match day squad as did Curtis Main with both recovering from knocks. John McCracken also made it to the bench. 

Simon Murray had a shot blocked and cleared by the Dundee defence, who had a couple of efforts as well. The first real chance fell to Dundee on the 25th minute with a trademark Owen Beck cross was met by Jordan McGhee at the back post but his header was tipped over the bar by the County keeper.

The game was end to end as it was good to watch, it would depend who scored first. McGhee then had a effort which went over the bar.

Right on the stroke of half time, Dundee took the lead when the ball was played upfield and collected by Luke McCowan who slipped the ball into Scott Tiffoney who slotted the ball under the onrushing County goalkeeper.

Dundee started the second half slowly and County looked the better side, but Dundee went close when McCowan put a shot just wide of the post.

Then Dundee got the vital second goal when Scott Tiffoney smashed the ball home with a decent strike.

Dundee then put on Ricki Lamie for Dara Costelloe to give the defender to keep the defence airtight and it would get his match fitness up.

Then Owen Beck was replaced after he had taken a knock Owen Dodgson was his replacement.Dundee looked comfy and had a few chances before the end, 

Bakayoko who had minutes before picked up a booking, was replaced by Zach Robinson along with Curtis Main coming on for goal hero Tiffoney.

A vital win foe the dark blues and puts them in a good position in the top six. Big game this Saturday at Easter Road.

Dundee 2, St Johnstone 0, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 11th February 2024

Dundee made several changes with Aaron Donnelly, Mo Sylla, Scott Tiffoney, Amadou Bakayoko and Zach Robinson came in for Lee Ashcroft, Owen Dodgson and Michael Mellon, who were on the bench, and the injured pair of Malachi Boateng and Curtis Main. Dundee switched to four at the back, instead of the usual three with wing backs. 

Most of the first twenty minutes was all around the St Johnstone's box but Dundee failed to create anything which was clear cut. As sometimes it happens St Johnstone scored soon after when Smith scored with a low shot it was a simple goal and totally against the run of play.

Dundee hit back and Cameron had a shot saved then Bakayoko seen his effort rebound off the post, St Johnstone were quite happy to sit back and hit Dundee on the break.

Saints did have a couple of chances before half-time but Carson saved well and Owen Beck showed why he is a top player when he defended well.

At half time Dara Costelloe came on for Zach Robinson. He played in the same wide attacking role on the right and looked more comfortable there than Robinson did, and happier than he had done previously in a deeper wing back role.

After a hour Carson had a great save to deny Saints a second goal, and they hit the bar soon after. Dundee then put Michael Mellon on eith Scott Tiffoney coming off. 

Into the last 15 minutes and the game totally changed when McCowan cleared a Saints attack, then it a penalty review with VAR was being done but for who? 

Minutes later it was a penalty to Dundee after Bakayoko was fouled in the box. Up stepped Luke McCowan to score with ease to level the game. 

Beck smashed a low shot across goal after being played in by McCowan. A Costelloe cross to the far post found Bakayoko but the striker didn’t make a clean enough connection and Mitov smothered the shot.

The Dark Blues kept pressing and got their reward after 89 minutes. Beck drifted infield and a perfect deep cross found Jordan McGhee, who timed his run precisely to nod the winner past Mitov and into the corner of the net from 12 yards.

Eight minutes of injury time was added and the main reason was a bad head knock to Michael Mellon who needed 7 minutes of treatment and care for him to leave the pitch.

Dundee saw out the time to claim three vital points, and it will keep the club in the top six.

St Mirren 2, Dundee 0, SMiSA Stadium Stadium, cinch Premiership, 07-February-24

Dundee made only one change from the Hearts game Curtis Main started his first game for the dark blues, he replaced Amadou Bakayoko, who was named as a substitute.

Both teams struggled to get going in this game with Dundee looking slow at times, after about 15 minutes it got better but they failed to feed the strikers with decent balls.

St Mirren then had a good spell and Carson had to make two good saves to keep the score 0-0. It was a scrappy games with not a lot for the fans on a cold night.

Then just before half time Dundee had a great chance when after good play put Beck through on the keeper, he was tackled but got his shot in which was just wide of the post.

Second half was much of the same as both teams struggled to score, st Mirren looked more likely when he hit on the break. Dundee made two changes when Zach Robinson replaced Curtis Main, then Scott Tiffoney replaced Michael Mellon, but Dundee still struggled to create anything in the Buddies’ penalty area. Ryan Astley also came on for his debut, replacing Lee Ashcroft in defence. 

Then St Mirren should have scored but they hit the top of the bar as it stayed 0-0, but on 71 minutes it was 1-0 when they scored with a powerful shot beat Carson who had got his hands on the ball. 

Ater 86 minutes St Mirren were reduced to 10 men when James Bolton flattened Owen Dodgson. He was given a straight red, which was confirmed following a VAR review. He had already been booked for an earlier foul, so the review was never going to keep him on the park.

Minutes late Saints broke quickly and they had the ball in the net with Dundee looking for offside, it looked on and after a check with VAR it was giving by the Referee to finish the game 2-0. 

St Mirren were the better side and it looked like Dundee were tired after 6 games in 18 days.

Dundee 2, Hearts 3, Dens Park, cinch Premiership, 3rd February 2024

Dundee made  two changes to the Dee team that drew at Pittodrie. Luke McCowan returned from suspension and Michael Mellon made his first start. They replaced Mo Sylla and Zach Robinson, who were on the bench.

Both teams were a big cagey in the opening spell of the game. Dundee did attack a couple of time but they failed to find a opening to trouble Hearts. They went close soon after when they hit the post. 

The Dark Blues first shot was a firmly struck volley by Amadou Bakayoko from Luke McCowan’s cross, but the shot was too close to keeper Zander Clark. Trevor Carson saved well from Alan Forrest after the Hearts wide man dribbled into the penalty area.

Dundee took the lead, somewhat against the run of play, after 26 minutes. A deep cross from left midfield by McCowan found Jordan McGhee  running in from the right and the wing back powered a header across Clark and inside the far post.

It gave every one a lift as Dundee looked much better as a team, playing some nice football. They had a couple of efforts saved. Carson was also pulled into action and saved twice as the half came to a close.

Second half and Dundee maybe should have scored but Ashcroft put his effort over the bar when it should have been on target. 

They payed the price when Hearts scored soon after when Forrest netted. Dundee came desperately close to an instant response. Beck burst to the byline and hit a low cross across goal. Lyall Cameron couldn’t reach the ball to turn it and the ball was scrambled round the post for a corner.

The Dee did regain the lead after 59 minutes. Bakayoko, McCowan and Cameron worked a slick move through the middle and Lyall Cameron had space to lash a beautiful 20 yard shot past Clark.

Dundee had a good spell pushing Hearts back as they played great football. Owen Dodgson came closest, from a Beck corner, but his header struck the post.

But then Hearts started to throw men forward and got a huge stroke of luck when Shankland’s shot on the turn from 18 yards struck Ashcroft, who was only a few feet away. The referee decided the ball hit the defender’s arm and awarded a penalty. Carson got a hand to Shankland’s spot kick but the ball ended up in the net off the inside of the post.

Dundee pushed forward again and Robinson missed a header which he put wide from six yards out. But Hearts scored again when Shankland beat Carson with a shot with 3 minutes to go normal time.

It was tough for Dundee to lose this game and the Penalty had a big change in the way the game ended. Dundee played well and can now carry this on at St Mirren next Wednesday.

Aberdeen 1, Dundee 1, Pittodrie Stadium, cinch Premiership, 30th January 2024

Dundee made five changes to the team which faced Livingston on Saturday. Trevor Carson, Lyall Cameron, Malachi Boateng, and Zach Robinson came back into the starting eleven, as did Owen Beck following his return from Liverpool. Harry Sharp, Fin Robertson, Dara Costelloe and Scott Tiffoney moved onto the bench, and Luke McCowan was suspended. Michael Mellon missed out due to a slight knock.

The first 10 minutes little happened as both teams struggled to get going. But on 12 minutes Dundee were inches away from taking the lead. A good move put Robinson clear and his clever ball across the six yard box was just missed by Bakayou for a certain goal.

Aberdeen did have a wee spell on top but Trevor Carson does well to save in a couple of efforts. Dundee were doing well but gave away a soft penalty to give Aberdeen the chance to go ahead.

They did when Miovski scored with ease to take the crowd off ther back, at least Dundee got to half time only 1-0 down. 

At half time Josh Mulligan replaced Mo Sylla and immediately brought greater drive to the midfield with a series of sggressive runs through the middle. Owen Beck was playing further forward and moving infield. Dundee were now set up to attack the Aberdeen defence more convincingly.

Aberdeen scored another goal but it was ruled offside by VAR a break for Dundee for a change. Dundee came into the game more now and were looking good going forward. Then Lee Ashcroft was unluck with a header which was pushed over the bar.

But on 55 minutes it was 1-1 when Lee Ashcroft headed home from a corner taken by Beck. Dundee were well on to , and the rare attack from the Dons Dundee coped well under no real pressure.

Mulligan had a shot blocked as Dundee wnt for the winner, they made a couple more changes when  Scott Tiffoney and Dara Costelloe came on for Zach Robinson and Jordan McGhee. 

Dundee went close in the dying minutes when a great ball from Tiffoney found Beck but he put his shot just wide of the far post.

A good point for the Dark Blues and they could have won it in the second half when they played well for long spells.
