Partick Thistle 1 Dundee 0, Firhill, First Division, 14/August/10
Dundee lost 1-0 at Firhill yesterday in their first away game in the league, again l missed the game due to work. So l can't comment too much on the performance, after watching the highlights on DFTV is seemed that the teams were very evenly matched in the first half, with Dundee having a few chances from break aways and some decent free kick positions. But seemed strange the Leigh Griffiths took most of them, I would rather have Sparky in the box trying to put the ball in the net. I know he can take a decent free kick , but so can Gary Harkins.
Second half and it seemed that The Jags took control of the game, the 3-5-1 does not work for me, I like teams to attack , maybe not all the time but to be positive and change it if we have to defend. Anyway that's just my view fans want to watch attacking football with goals and goalmouth action. Partick Thistle did score the one and only goal of the game when Boyle scored with a back post header which went across the goal and in. It did look a poor goal to lose.
Dundee: Douglas, Irvine, McKeown, Shimmin, Forsyth, O'Donnell (Higgins 76), Grant (McHale 76), Adams, McMenamin, Harkins, Griffiths Subs Not Used: Fox, Kerr, Benedictus

Dominic Shimmin and Charlie Grant both made their debuts and done well by reports, but they will need time to get their fitness up.

Stenhousemuir 4 Dundee 1, Ochilview, Alba Cup 2nd Rd, 10/August/10
Well what can you say about that scoreline, I'm glad l was working nightshift. Going by reports is was a shocking performance from Dundee.
They were 2 nil down in the first 15 mins, with goals from Alex Williams and Grant Anderson, into the second half and Paul Quinn scored a third for Stenhousemuir. Although Leigh Griffiths pulled one back with a clever finish to give us hope. But Kevin Motion sealed a well deserved victory for Stenhousemuir, well done and good luck for the next round.
As for Dundee that performance is not good enough, we need to buckle down and work harder. Starting with the league game at Firhill on Saturday.
Dundee: Fox, Irvine, McKeown, Weston (Paton 17), Sansara, Riley (McMenamin 66), McHale ( O'Donnell 46), Harkins, Forsyth, Higgins, Griffiths. Subs Not Used: Douglas, Kerr

Dundee 1 Queen of the South 0, Dens Park, First Division, 07/August/10
Dundee played well enough overall, they scored when Gary Harkins fooled the Queens keeper with a clever free kick on 22 minutes. But a crazy second half seen Dundee give away a penalty, Sansara was booked, then Rab Douglas made a great save to deny Holmes. Then Netan Sansara got send off, picking up a second booking. Not clear on what he did, but it was the lineman who flagged. Then 2 minutes later Riley was send off for his second bookable tackle, on which seemed a wee bit harsh.
Down to nine men , we defended well and deserved the 3 points, thought Craig McKeown was outstanding, with Gary Harkins having a good game in midfield. So a good three points for the Dark Blues.
Dundee: Douglas, Irvine, McKeown, Weston, Sansara, Riley, McHale (Higgins 77), Forsyth, Harkins (Paton 85), McMenamin, Griffiths (O'Donnell 77). Subs Not Used: Fox, Kerr.

Dundee 3 Montrose 0, Dens Park, Cis Cup 1st Round, 31/July/10
Dundee won 3-0 this afternoon in the Cis Cup at Dens Park, the dark blues were given a big boost when Rhys Weston signed a one year deal, and went straight into the team at centre half. Jamie Adams made his debut for the club in midfield.
I missed the game due to work, so can only go by reports and l will see the goals later on DFC TV. Dundee scored the first goal on 33 mins when a good pass from McKeown put Nicky Riley through and he finished with a cool chip from a tight angle. That was the half time score.
Into the second half and l send a text to my mate Dougie, to see if it was still 1-0. His reply made me smile it read " 3-0 Dees, on the rampage now" So that was Dundee safely into the next round. The other two goals came from the penalty spot after Jamie Adams was fouled in the box, up stepped Leigh Griffiths (70mins) to side foot home. Then Griffiths laid one on for MoM Nicky Riley (76mins) who smashed the ball into the top corner for a fine finish.
Dundee:Douglas, Irvine, McKeown (McHale 75), Weston, Forsyth, Riley, O'Donnell, (Paton 71), Adams, Harkins, McMenamin (Higgins 66), Griffiths. Subs not used: Fox, Kerr.

Dundee 2 Alloa Ath 1, Dens Park, Alba Cup 1st Round, 24/July/10
Into the second half and again we struggled to find any flow to our moves, with over hit or too many passes. We did have have a great chance when good play by Leigh Griffiths out wide, his cross in and somehow Antoine-Curier did not throw himself into the six yard box to get the touch. It would have been a certain goal. Alloa kept hitting on the break and took the lead when ex Ayr player Scott Walker headed home, and not long after after they were very unlucky when Scott hit the bar.
Lucky for us that Higgins and McMenamin were on for the tiring Riley and out of form Curier by this time and with just 4 minutes left McMenamin headed home powerfully to level, and with time just about up Higgins scored after a scramble in the Alloa box. His powerful shot hitting keeper Robertson before spinning high into the net.
That was that and Dundee were through, it did look like we were going out, but the two subs did the trick.

Arbroath 1 Dundee 1, Gayfield, Friendly, 17/July/10
Dundee drew 1-1 with Arbroath at Gayfield this afternoon. The Red Litchies took in the lead in the first half when Jordyn Sheerin shot home from the edge of the box.
Second half and Rab Douglas replaces Scott Fox in goal. Dundee take the game to their hosts and go close on a few occasions, but Douglas is forced to make a couple of saves. Dundee bring on a few subs and McMenamin just about scores but the ball hits Griffiths and Arbroath clear.
After good play by the trialist leftback his pass puts Higgins clear and his shot is saved but Colin McMenamin is there to force the ball home. Both team go forward to try and get the winner, but it ends 1-1.
Dundee:Fox, Trialist, Benedictus, McKeown, Paton, Forsyth, O'Donnell, Riley, Harkins, Curier, Griffiths. Subs:McMenamin, McHale, Kerr, Higgins, Rennie, Bartlett, Gibson, Douglas.

Dundee Sign Defender
Dundee have signed Morton defender Dominic Shimmin on a two year deal. He has played for Arsenal youths, QPR a loan spell at Bournemouth, and a short spell at Crawley Town, before heading up to Morton.
I seen Dominic a few times last season, and he impressed me, so happy with this signing. It will boost our defence, so hopefully we sign a decent left back next. More info Here
