Morton 0, Dundee 0, Cappielow, SPFL Championship, 19-April-14
Dundee travelled through to Cappielow on Saturday to take on bottom club Morton to try and secure a vital three points in the race for the Championship title. But sadly it was the home side that took all three points as Dundee were left to rue missed chances.
They started with the same team as last week and started well and forced corner after corner but the delivery on these were very poor from Riley and later McAlister started taken them as Dundee tried to make their pressure tell. Morton got to half-time as Dundee piled forward but failed to trouble the Morton keeper.
Second half and after Nade came on for Wighton the big striker missed a great chance after Kerr had played him in but sadly he put the ball wide with the goal gaping. A few minutes later and McDonald should have scored when from six yards he shot straight at the keeper really it should have been a goal. But with games like this Dundee got hit with a sucker punch when good play from Vine and his cut back was fired home by Imrie to give the home side a good win. Dundee tried to push for a late goal but Morton held on.
Today Dundee failed to make good use from their pressure 16 corners and 20 shots at goal with only 6 on target tells it own story. It now makes the Alloa game a must win as Hamilton went top again after beating Alloa 2-1 at New Douglas Park.
Dundee: Letheren, Kerr (Beattie 79), Gallagher, Davidson, Dyer, Boyle, Rae, McAlister, Riley, Wighton (Nade 61), MacDonald.
