Dundee Pay The Price For Missed Chances.............

Morton 0, Dundee 0, Cappielow, SPFL Championship, 19-April-14

Dundee travelled through to Cappielow on Saturday to take on bottom club Morton to try and secure a vital three points in the race for the Championship title. But sadly it was the home side that took all three points as Dundee were left to rue missed chances.

They started with the same team as last week and started well and forced corner after corner but the delivery on these were very poor from Riley and later McAlister started taken them as Dundee tried to make their pressure tell. Morton got to half-time as Dundee piled forward but failed to trouble the Morton keeper.

Second half and after Nade came on for Wighton the big striker missed a great chance after Kerr had played him in but sadly he put the ball wide with the goal gaping. A few minutes later and McDonald should have scored when from six yards he shot straight at the keeper really it should have been a goal. But with games like this  Dundee got hit with a sucker punch when good play from Vine and his cut back was fired home by Imrie to give the home side a good win. Dundee tried to push for a late goal but Morton held on.

Today Dundee failed to make good use from their pressure 16 corners and 20 shots at goal with only 6 on target tells it own story. It now makes the Alloa game a must win as Hamilton went top again after beating Alloa  2-1 at New Douglas Park.

Dundee Shine At Home At Last......

Dundee 4 Cowdenbeath 0, Dens Park, SPFL Championship, 12-April-14

Dundee moved two points clear of Hamilton as the dark blues beat Cowdenbeath at Dens by four  goals to nil. This is the best l have seen Dundee play at home all season.

Team wise Cammy Kerr came in for the suspended Gary Irvine and young striker Craig Wighton started upfront. The home side took the lead after only 4 minutes gone with a delightful move started with a cool pass which gave Craig Wighton a opening and the young striker  took it coolly to slot home from 15 yards. A great start and it set the tone for the rest of the game, Dundee kept up the pressure and made it 2-0 just before half-time when Wighton played a great pass to sent Martin Boyle clear and the striker smashed the ball home to the delight of the home fans.

Second half and Dundee continued to play The Blue Brazil happy to try and keep the score down, so no big surprise when Jim McAlister scored the third goal after good wing play and cross from Nicky Riley. The fourth and final goal came soon after Wighton again played in Martin Boyle who fired in a unstoppable shot which had the Dens Park Fans shouting for more.

Dundee used their subs to give run outs to Nade, Conroy and Beattie. A good win and news that Hamilton had dropped points it happy Dundee fans heading home.

Share Of The Spoils At New Douglas Park

Hamilton Accies 1, Dundee 1, New Douglas Park, SPFL Championship, 5th-April-14

Dundee fans came out in big numbers to support the club at Hamilton last Saturday in the vital game between the joint league leaders. The pubs before the game were busy and it was good to see a few well known faces and fellow Dundee supporters.

Team wise Nicky Riley and Kevin McBride came in for Craig Beattie and Adam Cummins with Iain Davidson dropping back to a central defence role. The game started slowly for both sides playing tight football with Riley looking sharp but like Hamilton did not create anything clear chance wise. But with 10 minutes until half-time Dundee took the lead a McDonald free kick came back off the wall and when it was played back in by Dyer Accies failed to clear and McBride headed it down to Martin Boyle who side footed home to send the DFC fans wild with delight. Just minutes later and it could have been two with McDonald put his shot just over the bar.

Ready For The Kick Off

Second half and Dundee started brightly with two good efforts on goal the second one from Boyle forced the Accies keeper into a fine save as Dundee looked to kill the game. Soon after and Iain Davidson had to go off with a injury it was to prove the turning point as Hamilton took the game to their visitors. With 20 minutes to go Hamilton got level when ex-dee striker Antoine Curier beat Cummins in the air to head home. Both teams then made mistakes as the flowing football had stopped and players made basic mistakes fear off losing the game. Beattie and Conroy came on as Dundee tried to change it, but in the end a draw was fair on the day.
